Hello! I was the Lead Aerodynamics Engineer at Sun Devil Motorsports, Arizona State University's Formula SAE team, in 2018-2019. I've set this channel up to share my knowledge on CFD and CAD to help future teams, as well as anyone else curious about these topics. Feel free to leave a comment if you questions, comments, or corrections to my videos, and I'll try to respond to them in a timely manner.
Star-CCM+: Custom Surface Control for Meshing and Mesh Refinement
In this video, I refine the mesh I originally created using the Surface Control feature.

This is an overview of the different parts of Star-CCM and how to go from starting a file to completion.
Could you pls upload a tutorial of surface roughness of vehicle
Hey! Do you still have that meshing paper link you mentioned on the video? 12:55
How do you get the subtract geometry? That's the main thing I'm struggling with in a similar project
How did you solve the problem of prism layers not apearing? I'm having the same problem. Your next video miraculously has got the prism layers.
thanks for the video, great content
How can i install star ccm for free :(
"ill upload in the next video" *top 10 sequels that were never made*
Great video, thanks. Could you link those papers you mentioned if you still have them?
Thanks to your tutorial. Could you please show me how to export the mesh from StarCCM?
Very Helpful , Please make some more videos because for star ccm+ only few are there on youtube among that yours is best . so hope you do soon . Thanks again
Hi NieDesing, nice video, I am new in cfd, could you help me where to download the fsae cad geometry? Thanks in advance
That was super helpful!
I have the problem too that Star ccm+ imports my part as assembly. I've tried to Export the part in CAD (NX) as Parasolid or .igs to Star but this didn't help. Have anyone an idea I would be thankfull
how did you choose the depth of the simulation zone? (the z-axis length)
Many thanks. Very useful to those that haven't used CCM+
There seems to be quite a bit of skepticism in this "tutorial". Users beware.
Would be better if you actually started from the beginning of the process rather than starting with geometry and regions already loaded and assigned. "We weren't really able to figure this out" also not the best thing to hear in a tutorial video.
very helpful, thank you
man you should change the transparency in your scene so you can see whats inside the box
hey there what are the minimum pc specs for the program to run ?
Hi, what's the link to the mesh papers please?? thanks
Thak u
Hi.Sir.. Is there any option available to run the simulation before volume meshing without open the file ? Both volume meshing and iterations .. is it possible?
man these videos are really helpful for beginners because you are actually explaining why you are doing, whatever you do. ( unlike other tutorials where they just say, yeah, do it! without explaining
thank you so much i want to marry you
@NileDesign can you share the geometry that you have used in tutorial ?
Thank you. I was just looking for this.
Very helpful man thanks!
CAN YOU SEND ME THE AEROFOIL FILE? winston.ogbonda@gmail.com. thanks
Hey, what a amazing video, I'm really getting improved. And I'm waiting for your detailed explanation. It will help me a lot with my starccm problems
Can I find you in any social media or WhatApp? I wanna ask you somethings about CFD e I'd grateful if I could talk to you
Hey just wanted to ask if you were still working on the detailed video? I'm new to CFD and I have a problem that incorporates compressible flows that I was hoping to find a tutorial on. Can't seem to find any here on RUclips so if you were still thinking of making the detailed video that would be fantastic
you can use intersect feature on part for that
I need to learn star ccm for my master thesis so a video showing basics of creating geometries, mesh etc. or if you could tell me website where I can learn this would be nice . Good video btw
Thanks for posting this. I'm having a hell of a time getting my model into the cavity because of zero thickness errors and other stuff. I did get a simplified version in, but do you know a good way to simplify a model in solidworks to make this all happen smoothly?
Good video, keep making them. Would love to help you too if you require it.
Thank you for your Videos could you do a video for Surface Repair with Imprints?
wheres the meshing paper?? also love the vids
You are amazing man! Can you please provide me with your email? as I am kinda stuck with some advanced STAR-CCM+ simulations.
The angry texts were helpful indeed.. thanks :)
i love u man
I have a senior design project next semester using this program and it's such a refresher to hear someone I can understand in a tutorial. Please make more!
I'm glad you can understand! I plan to make more videos, but being a grad student myself things have been crazy this semester, so this documentation has gotten pushed back quite a bit. Check back in the next couple of weeks though, I should hopefully have more videos up!
@@niedesign8465 Would be great for the community - since there are just few tutorials on Star, while there are piles of tutorials for ANSYS which is upsetting :-|
