switch to the BRD 162 for the afternoon
Просмотров 4721 день назад
This morning, I was riding the new skunk ape 2 camber. On two separate days I rode the Skunk2camber then a different board in the afternoon. One day I rode the Titty 160w the second BR162w. I like boards with a lot of taper. The skunk2camber on has a little. Having the rear end of you board loose and not hooky is the way I like it. Skunk was kinda hooky.

2024 is the worst snow year at my home mountain in the 11 years i've been a pass holder here. We lost snow due to rain in the last few days. What where soft topped saplings have now been driven over by the groomer and trimmed into shorter, fatter wood spikes. You don't want to fall. If a fall doesn't F you up, it'll definitely shred your clothes. I am not not trying to have my legs ready...FOOK.

My home mountain is still super low tide. Only running the groomers in two spots on top. Almost 8K ft. It's nuts. Also, it's a low budget Mom and Pop place where they don't do any layover cleanup, forest management or trim down stumps at all. I tell my friends who visit "play it as it lies". No snow 2023/24 , I'm trying to get ready for a race. The T-bar is giving me bruises. It's the only "safe" or "Groomed" snow on the mountain right now. Up side? snow was good, it is steep, which is good, some actual ride time is good. The BRD 167W is my all time favorite snowboard. Which is good.

    Thank you for sharing, Vans needs to fix all these problems. I'm selling my infuses after 36 days of painful riding. Navicular pressure. instep pressure. The liner is crap, the whole front part is neoprene and not thermoformable, and too soft which created a lot of room after breaking out. They are ultra heavy and super bulky, I barely can fit my 9,5US into Nows Medium bindings. They are also long in the footprint. MY 9,5 are 31cm long. I am riding now Ride Fuses in size 9 and the footprint is 8mm shorter and the weight is almost 700g lighter for the pair. I really liked the quality of the shell in the vans and the flex adjustability but that is not enough to keep them. Overrated for the high price they come with!

      I was slated for a C2X skunk this season. I didn't get it in time, then this camber skunk happened. My kid has the C2X skunk but he didn't want to F it up with the low snow this year. Technically, I've never ridden a C2X board, which is really weird, but it never came on anything I wanted or was made for a big kid. Camber boards can be hooky. C2 boards can feel lifeless. I've been told C2X is the magic. I dunno, I might never know. My kid won't let me ride his?

    I was stoked to see this was “traditional camber” once it arrived I was a bit disappointed because it had less camber than my dynamo which is C3.

    • @wannagoforarip3131
      @wannagoforarip3131 2 месяца назад

      I agree. It rides loose until you ask it to ride long, loaded at speed. At speed it and loaded it's similar. HP is my favorite core so it handles speed without a fuss. It does have a strong/stiffish tail so it does pop pretty good, but it doesn't track like the Dynamo or Titty on flat, it also doesn't load in transitions like the heavy C3's do.

    Need some advice, I bought a pair of Burton Photon boots thought they would be amazing since I paid $400. Rode 3 days and my feet had blisters and toes hurt and they were just uncomfortable. Would in your opinion I be better off replacing the liners with intuition liners or getting new boots in your opinion but of course new boots would be more than new liners. If new boots is the answer which are recommended because the button hurt my feet for some reason? Ride? K2? Vans? If liners I would possibly go to the headquarters since they could pick the perfect liners to use in my photon shell as I wouldn’t know which to get out of the many they sell. Thanks for your time

    • @wannagoforarip3131
      @wannagoforarip3131 5 месяцев назад

      Tough call. Foot fit in snowboard boots is like a dark art. Feet are all really different to try and fit into any standard snowboard boot. Companies to have tendencies for narrower or wider fits. Then that is all compounded by peoples opinions. As an Example, I'm men's 12 in a vans street shoe, but I wear men's 13 in Vans snowboard boots. That is counter intuitive to what most people will sell you in a store. To your situation, I think a conversation with the folks at intuition would help. There is a method for measuring actual foot length to the inside pf the outer shell of the boot using your fingers behind your heel (How many fingers:) That will give you the first step in procuring the correct liners. I do not promote the wrap liners anymore, for me, but think the standard tongue liners are the wat to go. Good luck.

      I dig C2 skunks, they’re great boards for shitty conditions because they do it all, but they are a champion of none. C2 removes the ability to change the shape of your turns because you can’t twist it enough to overcome the reverse camber. I’d try and ride one first. Also, everyone is trending away from reverse camber. It’s cool for shitty conditions because it rides itself- and uses that one turn it does. I’ll never purposely ride one again except my rock board. It always reminds me how much I like camber. Good luck

      Inner shell volume is important. Those new vans shell bottoms are bulletproof and don't have much "collapse" meaning if you don't have enough :"liner volume" to consume inside the shell, the shell might not be able to tighten up enough to get tight. Unfortunately, the trial and error can add up in a hurry. I don't have any solid answers as I'm not an expert, but I can tell you I'm not using the powerwraps anymore. The amount of material over your ankle can't be squished enough by your bindings or BOA's to get a firm ankle hold. I kept smashing my toes until they were black and blue as I couldn't keep my feet/ankles tight enough to keep them from slider forward. No bueno. Good luck.

I’ve been using a remind heat moldable, and or shred soles. every pair of ultra Cush vans insoles go straight from the box to the trash before I wear the shoes or box. I can’t stand those things.

      Yeah, Vans insoles don't work fo me either. I get the idea, but always leaning forward is no bueno. I use a Superfeet Gold/Brown version as my feet are kind of flat. Get the arch support, inner volume of you boot, and the stiffness of the liner all "correct" makes all the difference in the work in terms of foot pain. Dig it.

    Just picked up a 161W Stump Ape... C2 profile. It took a couple of runs to understand where this board excels. I ride a 166w custom x as my daily, and I have always ridden camber boards. What I can say about the stump is that it wants to float. First run I leaned in toe side and loaded the back foot, I washed out immediately where as the custom camber would have transferred that energy into the carve. I found myself having to drive it more from the front, once I got the hang of it I was loving it. It's so playful, so agile, and it just wants to pop that nose and float powder like a champ. I cannot wait to get it out on a deep day in the trees, it's so lively!

      I've learned a few things since this vid. That said, I don't think the PowerWrap is the best option. OR I might have been advised poorly from the folks at Intuition. I think the foam/stiffness is perfect, however the PowerWrap style of liner might have too much material in front of the ankle, allowing too much squish to keep your toes from finding the ends of your boots even when your BOA's and ankle straps are cranked. This may have been due to the size I used, maybe they were too small? but this is how I was advised from intuition. I am now in a different liner. Admittedly, I was happier in the PowerWraps, but my toenails turned blue and hurt. Dig? I think that Tour style Intuition is the ticket, or just a standard liner with a tounge from Intuition might have better results. Good luck!
