    I live right by there🤙 the bison are elk are beautiful and I’ve been hoping they’re alright. There’s been a wildfire there that’s burned 11,000 acres already since Friday morning….it’s a very sad thing for me.

      Thanks for watching! It is actually a pretty short hike if you are in decent shape. I don't remember exactly how long it took, but I would imagine it took me about 3 hours. It is graded for horses most of the way so the trail is really smooth and nice! There isn't anything too steep or technical.

      Hi! Thanks for watching! Yes, bikes are allowed at the grass lands. I don't ride a bike, but I would imagine the sandy trails would make it pretty tough.

      No designated sites! Camp anywhere you want. I will say though, that is the nicest spot to camp I have found. The yellow trail is shorter, so you could hike the yellow trail and camp in the same area if you wanted. Hope this helps!

    Hello Denton, I'm considering a trip to Rio Grande or San Juan National Forest in early October. We will not be camping but would be looking to stay in a nearby town and drive to the park each day. We also plan some "short". meaning < 5 mile total hikes. The remainder of time would be driving and sight seeing. Witch National Forest would you recommend Rio Grande or San Juan?..Thanks for content, keep it up..

    • @DentonOutdoors
      @DentonOutdoors 4 месяца назад

      Hello! The San Juan National Forest takes up a huge part of Colorado! I have only explored the very outer part specifically in the South San Juan Wilderness which boarders the Rio Grande National Forest. The South San Juan Wilderness is a wilderness area, so it isn't going to have much infrastructure, but it will feel very wild and removed. Between the Rio Grande and San Juan National Forest, I think most people would say the San Juan National Forest is more beautiful. I hope this helps!

      Yeah! The view from Mount Scott is really great and you can drive to the top. Elk Mountain is a fun hike if you are looking to get to the top of a mountain by foot. Check out the Lost Lake Picnic Area, Boulder Picnic Area and the Kite Trail. They are all right next to each other off the same road. The Kite trail is pretty short and easy but it has some amazing canyon views. If you want to see a ton of Prairie Dogs, check out Holy City Prairie Dog Town. Those are some of my favorite things. Hope this helps!

      It does kind of look like tap dancing! I was watching this bird for a long time and I believe it had to do with the way it was hunting small fish. It would do this dance right before it would grab a fish out of the water. Unfortunately I didn't get a video of it feeding.

    • @DentonOutdoors
      @DentonOutdoors 8 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching! The Devil's Hall is the hike I did beforehand. If I remember correctly, I started my Shumard Canyon hike around 11am thinking it would take me about 5 hours to do the 9 or so miles. As you saw it took me a bit longer than I thought it would! I brought a gallon of water and it was just about the perfect amount. This was in the winter so I would probably bring more any other time of the year. I also drank at least a liter before I started the hike to make sure I was hydrated.

      @@DentonOutdoors I thought you did a great job finding your way when you got off trail! I am wanting to do this trail and I have read over an over how untraveled it is so I think it is understandable that one could lose the actual trail. And good grief you did Devils Hall before so its even that more impressive! I really appreciate you replying to my questions. Looks like most of my pack weight will be water, ha.

      @DentonOutdoors 8 месяцев назад

      Yeah! There were for sure some spots the trail was difficult to find. If you are looking for a truly isolating wilderness experience, this is the perfect trail. I really enjoyed it and all the struggles that came with it! I hope you get a chance to hike it!
