Zapata Falls

Zapata Falls is a really short hike with an amazing destination. When I was visiting the water was all snow melt and was extremely cold. This short excursion is well worth it if you are ever in the area. Hiked June 5, 2024

I live right by there🤙 the bison are elk are beautiful and I’ve been hoping they’re alright. There’s been a wildfire there that’s burned 11,000 acres already since Friday morning….it’s a very sad thing for me.
It is a beautiful place! I saw about the fires and it is really sad. It looks like there has been some recent rain. I hope it has helped!
How cute and cool.😎
Great job. I plan on going in December. I'm sure it will be cold and windy. How long did the trek take you?
Thanks for watching! It is actually a pretty short hike if you are in decent shape. I don't remember exactly how long it took, but I would imagine it took me about 3 hours. It is graded for horses most of the way so the trail is really smooth and nice! There isn't anything too steep or technical.
Are bikes allowed? I saw your red trail video where you also mentioned horses but i didn't know if bikes were allowed on all thise trails as well
Hi! Thanks for watching! Yes, bikes are allowed at the grass lands. I don't ride a bike, but I would imagine the sandy trails would make it pretty tough.
Looks fun. Been wanting to get out there but haven't yet.
Where did you start?
Started at Trinity Fork Park.
Are there designated places to camp? Or you camp anywhere. I want to do an overnighter but don't want to hike that far.
No designated sites! Camp anywhere you want. I will say though, that is the nicest spot to camp I have found. The yellow trail is shorter, so you could hike the yellow trail and camp in the same area if you wanted. Hope this helps!
hi
Very cool Mr Sutherlin
I love it there
Hello Denton, I'm considering a trip to Rio Grande or San Juan National Forest in early October. We will not be camping but would be looking to stay in a nearby town and drive to the park each day. We also plan some "short". meaning < 5 mile total hikes. The remainder of time would be driving and sight seeing. Witch National Forest would you recommend Rio Grande or San Juan?..Thanks for content, keep it up..
Hello! The San Juan National Forest takes up a huge part of Colorado! I have only explored the very outer part specifically in the South San Juan Wilderness which boarders the Rio Grande National Forest. The South San Juan Wilderness is a wilderness area, so it isn't going to have much infrastructure, but it will feel very wild and removed. Between the Rio Grande and San Juan National Forest, I think most people would say the San Juan National Forest is more beautiful. I hope this helps!
@@DentonOutdoors Thanks for info and quick reply. Upon further research it appears lodging around Rio Grande is more challenging than San Juan..Early October in Southern Colorado is awesome I feel like we can’t go wrong..Thanks again
How hard is it to get there?
Not hard at all! Only about a mile hike. The trail can be a bit hard to follow sometimes but over all pretty easy.
What time of year did you go?
@@bryanhoppet5130 This video is from July 11, 2023. I have also been in November and it was flowing.
@@DentonOutdoors I’m gonna beginning of august. Any where else you suggest?
Yeah! The view from Mount Scott is really great and you can drive to the top. Elk Mountain is a fun hike if you are looking to get to the top of a mountain by foot. Check out the Lost Lake Picnic Area, Boulder Picnic Area and the Kite Trail. They are all right next to each other off the same road. The Kite trail is pretty short and easy but it has some amazing canyon views. If you want to see a ton of Prairie Dogs, check out Holy City Prairie Dog Town. Those are some of my favorite things. Hope this helps!
Your channel randomly popped. Best of luck with your marathon!
Actually that was a tortice, your adventures are very entertaining
Nice video. The views are awesome. Thanks for sharing. subd & 👍2
Thanks for watching!
Had one pull up to my drivers side window out there on the road, stuck his tongue out and snorted. Massive beautiful creature
How relaxing 🙏
5 miles is not even close to a marathon, Idk how much do you run bit I'd say you gotta run longer distances
You would be right! I am very much in the training phase. I ran a half marathon a few days ago so my last few runs have been lower mileage.
Can I come with you? 🥲
My
Are you bear food?
Perfect.
I have a question Would you be allowed to do that?
It will be simple for you page two
Kudos for you attempting this by watching you so far,
It would be a supremely different life to work on that tower when it was operating. There is a tower in pine mountain California San Luis Obispo the exact been there done that
That's fantastic that you can put a name to these animals as you find them Plus we learn
Beautiful simply beautiful. It's great that you can see this beauty because this is all God's country. I'm an adventurist myself
Please explain to me what is going on is it tap dance lessons or forgot how to fly
It does kind of look like tap dancing! I was watching this bird for a long time and I believe it had to do with the way it was hunting small fish. It would do this dance right before it would grab a fish out of the water. Unfortunately I didn't get a video of it feeding.
Deer not a elk
I love mother nature
Man I wish I could see such places
Gorgeous
I've had a couple of those in my life. Remember the Sights and Smells..
Nice
I could sleep to this
The pretty part of the Rio Grande
A hiker with a brain... He kept his boots/shoes on. Never... NEVER remove footwear to cross a stream
Would be a great spot for a small cabin…million dollar view…easy and relaxing to enjoy !!
Beautiful
Enjoyed the video. This is one of my absolute favorite spots in the park. Especially from the Williams Ranch House. It showed up in your video but i always tell people Shumard Canyon/Williams Ranch House is the most beautiful sunset in the park. The way the sun turns all the limestone red is amazing. Great job on your hike and video. I love seeing hikes from the park that aren't the typical trails.
Thanks Cameron! It was an amazing hike. I was hoping to get there a bit earlier to enjoy the sunset more, but it was still great! I love your videos by the way! I am newer to Texas and have referenced a lot of your videos to find places to hike and backpack!
Thx for these I'm in Dallas and it is very hard to find any public walking spaces everything's in a neighborhood
Useless magnification 6x no use better see with normal eye. Atleast should be 8x or above
Very helpful. Thank you 😊
Very well done. Thank you.
Thank you for the video! What time of the day did you start this? Is this the hike that you had done Devil's Hall beforehand? Also how much water did you go through out and back?
Thanks for watching! The Devil's Hall is the hike I did beforehand. If I remember correctly, I started my Shumard Canyon hike around 11am thinking it would take me about 5 hours to do the 9 or so miles. As you saw it took me a bit longer than I thought it would! I brought a gallon of water and it was just about the perfect amount. This was in the winter so I would probably bring more any other time of the year. I also drank at least a liter before I started the hike to make sure I was hydrated.
@@DentonOutdoors I thought you did a great job finding your way when you got off trail! I am wanting to do this trail and I have read over an over how untraveled it is so I think it is understandable that one could lose the actual trail. And good grief you did Devils Hall before so its even that more impressive! I really appreciate you replying to my questions. Looks like most of my pack weight will be water, ha.
Yeah! There were for sure some spots the trail was difficult to find. If you are looking for a truly isolating wilderness experience, this is the perfect trail. I really enjoyed it and all the struggles that came with it! I hope you get a chance to hike it!
That is beautiful scenery!!! 😃
We will try this hike this weekend! Thanks for the video!
Nice! Hope you enjoy the hike!
thx for showing the small river. couldnt find any vids on it recently, wanna start fishing here hopefully
That is Post Oak lake. Treasure lake is the one on the west side of the road.
That is interesting! All the maps I have seen show Treasure lake on the east side. I am going to have to look into it. Thanks!
@@DentonOutdoors I talked with Randy Hale at the visitor center, he is the longest tenured park ranger and he also said the maps have the lakes names switched.
