Excellent analysis of mahabharata starting pushya ending Shravana on 12 Dec 3067 last day amavasya wity Saturn in Rohini. Whereas others like Nikesh oaks is wrong as it doesn’t start with pushya and end shravan+Amavasya. Software only using Drik instead of Surya siddhanta under hood. Only slight point is Kali starting when Lord Krishna was alive.

Main problem with year -3066 (3067 BCE) is Maghi Pornima occurs on December 27 3067 BCE and Phalguni Pornima on January 26 -3065 (or 3066 BCE) Moon is in Uttara Phalguni (so no Adhika Maas) Sun stops going south on January 14th in Phalguna. Even assuming the fourth day after Sun turns hypothesis, January 18th is in Phalguna Shukla Paksha. This means Bhisma Nirvana occurs I. phalguna Shukla Paksha. In fact for Uttarayana to occur in Magh Shukla Paksha would restrict year range between 2500 BCE and 900 BCE approximately.

My own exp is u "gradually" fall in love with the Vidya and thanks to RUclips these ancient knowledge is open for us Surely many of us will fall out of love with the subject as we go along and some will fall deeper in love with it All i am saying is .... Why do you want to learn jyotish is a Day 1 question is moot ... Will I choose it above everything else ...the answer is ofcourse not ... This atitude has in my small opinion has impeded our learning of our own vidyas .... Will we ask a 1st year engineering graduate does he commit to being life long researcher or else we won't teach him ... Imagine that

Imagine a dream wherein someone is chasing and trying to hurt you, and you wake up all of a sudden. Your heartbeat is at its peak. In the above scenario, is the dream real, unreal or has it happened? On the physical plane (body) if we measure, only the heartbeat increase is seen. Some better measuring tools can show some brain activity. The question remains as to what has happened and has it happened. Mahabharata is known to have all the knowledge of the Vedas (Universe). So if you take any concept it has to be there is the epic. Let us see if Quantum mechanics is there in the epic. The dating of Mahabharata is an ongoing thing with each researcher coming up with a different date and having some points which support their observation. We see the Quantum mechanics principle of the act of observation affecting the outcome. So has Mahabharata happened? As you keep analysing this, it will make you question "the happening" itself. What does it mean to say that something has happened. This might sound crazy but as said Mahabharata should help us in understanding all the knowledge of the universe and this is a fundamental thing being questioned here. Our understanding of happening is limited and that needs to be corrected so that the question is answered itself. First, we have to be clear that not everything is happening in the physical plane and is visible. A celestial vision is needed to see things. Vyasa had given the vision briefly to Drupada (father of Draupadi) during the discussion if having five husbands is dharma, explaining the story behind it. Let us see an analogy for better understanding. If someone asks Is God there. The answer would depend on their existing understanding of God. That is the reason we have varied descriptions of God and as your understanding grows things become clear. The same has to be extended to happening. As is the case with the dream (happening inside a body) everything is happening within the entity called the Universe.

How did they in ancient day determine winter solstice? Did they do by length of the days or time of sunrise? Day of latest sunrise occurs early in January even though shortest day is on Dec 20/21. Ritual of Sun worship occurs at sunrise. Naked eye observation of sunrise is much easier than sunset due to transition from darkness to light rather than other way round; try it yourself. It is likely that ancients recorded winter solstice on the basis of sunrise rather than length of day. So we have to be careful about this; winter solstice could have been some time later than what we think it should be on the basis of current status of understanding.

"Anomaly" of Arundhati-Vashishta could occur with other astronomical phenomenon. One is Alcor it self could be orbiting around Mizar with a period of 750,000 years. The phenomenon of Alcor leading Mizar could occur with period of half of that which is 375,000 which will make "yuga" people happy. One more possibility is due to Alcor being double star. Now gravitational lensing, which was used by Eddington to prove Einstein's General Theory of Relativity, could make image of Alcor displaced so that Alcor is ahead of Mizar. Mizar itself wouldn't be affected since it is much further away from the dwarf companion of Alcor. The orbital period of this dwarf is about 90 years. This phenomenon will be transitory and will fit the bad omen for impending disaster. I am very "tamasic" about all this. When I read Van Bueten's Mahabharata Translation I did note these astronomical events in Mahabharat, rather than observations, and it occured to me that one could come to dating the Mahabharat using these events. But deeper thinking lead me to abandon this. What is that? Indian literature is conducive to "Atishayokti" alankar. We would like Rama to be perfect man so the author will make his birth most auspicious and such conjunctions of planets will not be occurring too often. The Mahabharat war it self being epoch defining omens, most likely concocted rather than observed, for it will also be extra ordinary and rare. I totally discount these description of astronomical events, written many many years after the war itself, and don't raise them to the level of observations. BTW Van Bueten's translation, not completed since he passed away, instigated me to buy Mahabharat and Ramayana from Bhandarkar Institute in Pune that I still posses.

The late night moonrise. Did it happen on the 15th day morning around 2:10am? or did it happen on the 14th day morning around 2:10am in the morning?

Essentially it was astrology that was driving force for astronomy in India. Accurate astrological predictions required accurate astronomical calculations. It is interesting that rather illogical "science" drives real science.
