So i think the Gold arena fight might be impossible w/ no equipment as you take way too much damage and can't deal enough before your overwhelmed. This fight was pretty interesting, take out the left chest to stop healing and you can ignore the right chest as it does little damage. The boss' squash attack deals so much damage, that if I didn't put the reapers accessory on the fight would of tak...

I really love how much passion you have for your game/story.
Here commenting once more. Your dilemma has been on my mind since yesterday. I also began to do a RPG Maker project circa 2006, but I quickly realized it was going to take too long to produce and quickly dropped it. But I also watched some Indie developers tutorial video some years ago, there they said something that weight heavy on my mind: For your first game, try to make it simple and get it done super fast, and release one after another becoming better. Yesterday I was playing the crunchyroll vault game: Evans Remains. That game has great art, but once I began to play it, I quickly realized that it was done maddly simple, and could be replicated fairly easy. Maybe try to do te opposite for yourself, your first game had a long and overcomplicated development, make your second game the opposite by getting it done fast and simple, even if you don't realease it. Test yourself, see what have you learned and try again with a more doable approach.
RPG maker games don't generally stand out unless there's some hook that is adjacent to the engine. I don't play them much myself but 'To the moon' is an example of a successful RPG maker game. The hook is it has a very well received narrative and plot twist. Your game looks like classic final fantasy but your steam page doesn't explain why I should play it over final fantasy. What are your hooks? PS. Don't be afraid to take the game down, retool it, get some REAL and CRITICAL beta testers in there and then restart your launch campaign using your RUclips channel as a platform. You have a few things to learn about marketing. Also, look up 5 minute reads' summary of 'the mom test'.
PS. I mean all this constructively. Your video was a valuable insight and I wanted to share back.
I’m not a dev but a graphic designer. Sometimes people don't respond positively to your work. I’ve had tons of projects that haven’t gone well that I’ve put a ton of time in, but It’s not a failure if you grow from this.
Yo dude, it's so nice to see your efforts. I just love to see someone talking about something that they love. I'm not a big rpg fan, but i can see a unique charm and you passion oozing from this project. Wish you the best of luck with this and maybe your future endeavors!
I see spending this much time on a project as very risky no matter what. I'm trying to develop a smaller game, and trying to upload devlog shorts to keep me motivated. And then on the next one I'll increase my scope. That way it seems to be working better for me since I have a very limited time to work on it.
Bro your game costs $20, it should be $7 max. Just based on art alone. If you want to be apart of the “greats” in the rpg genre you have to be up to their standards. You are competing with many high caliber games liked chained echoes, sea of stars, octopath traveler. You have to step up your quality if you want people to actually play your game.
To be fair, if you forced Miyamoto to use these assets, he probably couldn't sell an RPG game that takes itself seriously either.
I get where you come from, I tried something similar, though completely different story/setting, more along Grandia2/Septerra Core. Are you dead set on RPGM? 'Cause though it's in my line of games, I always skip all RPGM games, the engine is just so unappealing to me, and i think I'm not alone on that. I went with pygame, which had it's performance issues, but forced you to make your own UI from scratch, which I think is a good thing - that way you get more power over the image of your game. I'm not saying "go with pygame", but "get another engine". And seconding @simi7272, yeah, I'm not buying a game for 20 bucks. There are too many games I know ARE cool (or have cool concepts) that are free (like the old Kongregate before it got weird).
word count works against you if you don't know how to write lol
Best to form a team.
"check a look" Not helping that scammy bot feeling😬. At the same price as Hollow Knight you'll have to polish a few things up to make it stand out tbh. Good luck my friend
"The people who did test it loved it and said the writing style was very much you"...as in your friends and family? Is there a free demo? How long is the game? What's the catch of the story? Or even what is the story? The steam description seems vague as heck and with the art and grammar issues the game comes off as one of those bought asset scam games. Not to be harsh I love rpgs and would give it a shot but all things to think about when you are so invested that you may not see unless you take a step back.
Bring on Part 2!
You got it right. Your game doesn't stand out at all. I ditched the idea of maning a game in RPG maker because of that exact reason. So I chose Unreal xD. If your gameplay mechanics are good, and your story amazing (I dunno, haven't played it) then maxbe you should try building the game in Unreal? With beautiful 3D graphics? Maybe not? Maybe yes? Another thing you mentioned, is that people shouldn't use pre made assets, so that there game stands out. No one cares about using assets, and no one would notice that. Just don't overdo it, don't make your characters have pre-made models. If you make an environment out of assets, but the enemies and characters yourself, no one will notice that you used assets to make the environment. Edit: Just saw your steampage. Taking almost 20$ for this game is really a lot. I don't know how other people think about this, but I would never pay even 10 for something that looks like just another RPG maker game. I am not here to be toxic or hateful towards you, but just realistic. I am certain that the game is fun and has a good story, but sadly, this just is not enough.
Wait, Nintendo rejected the port? Why? There is a lot of trash in their store, but they reject your game?
Don't let it get you down! The lack of attention doesn't mean you're not good enough! RPG maker games are a difficult sell. Maybe try something in a new engine! Your projects also don't have to be a one-man show. You could always try collaborating with an artist!
Sorry for this comment, but, I think you need to find an identity for the art of the game. It looks like a generic rpg maker game 😢
Agreed with above. Secondly, you won't get any traction on steam without likely paying for some capsule and banner artwork. It just doesn't look like something anyone would click on currently, disregarding any of the hard work you did on the game and story. If people don't try your game they won't know they like it, and if the steam art doesn't get them to click, they won't try it. It's a tube and you need each part to be clear or it'll clog up and prevent anyone from getting through to play the game.
Sales funnel. The top of the funnel isn't inviting curiosity.
amazing breakdown! idk how you squeezed so many of my thoughts and emotions for this game in 20 minutes, but thank you. so many years later, and i still cant get this game out of my head
I always liked villains and Hardly any hero Lloyd although funny at times matures and is a very likeable hero with real struggles and with tough decisions. He’s always been my favourite hero because hes true to himself and what he knows and feels is right. And Mithos is an excellent villain because as he says I don’t regret my choices I’d do it all over again. He had a goal and a vision and was selfish enough to pursue it at all cost. Two heroes two different pasts.
I'm genuinely saying this not to be mean but as some advice. That's quite a price for a game with what looks to be ready made assets. You're an indie developer so you're competing with eye candy indie games like hades, celeste, cult of the lamb, stardev valley, firewatch, night in the woods ect. Without eye catching visuals you will have a hard time selling no matter how good the rpg is. I am looking at your game from an European steam so it may be the case that you didnt localise prices but either way. That's a thing u need to have a think about. Even when you cant draw, make pixel art yourself, doodle yourself, people love quirky artstyles, its always better to be unique. People wont get your game because it's quite the investment, but if u make it really cheap and are confident in your game being good, you will get word of mouth and end up selling way more, that's how Toree 3D made a lot of money even though its dirt cheap but it also got overwhelmingly positive reviews on steam which is so important for small developers so people trust your next, bigger games, and are willing to pay the price. Either way gl on ur game man
So as you can see in the trailer, I’ve been working on this game daily for three years as a solo developer. I’ve dumped thousands of hours into this project. I’ve also poured a lot of money into this project for custom art assets, music, and dev support. I don’t have an infinite budget, so I had to decide on which Section of the game I wanted to improve. I decided on enemies and actors for combat because that’s the main gameplay loop. Redoing every tile set for every area, including all the objects and redoing every npc to match the new art style would take an insanely long amount of time, which is something I don’t have. 15$ usd or 14e for a 20 hour rpg with a lot of bells and whistles that aren’t in its contemporaries seems very reasonable. I respect the time I put into this and that’s how much I think it’s worth.
@@hoboayoyo stay humble lol
Interesting 😊
Looking forward to trying it!
And Karol says "It hardly put up a fight". You what now?
What makes this fight even more annoying is the flying thing that always gets you at the save point. The creators knew how to frustrate you with this fight.
I like the daddy issues
I grew up with Autism since birth I was nonverbal until I learned to play video games with my family I always was afraid of conflict in any form of story, until I played this game at the age of 10 and became enamored with the story that it told and I dared to participate in it
Crazy skill
Symphonia was the game that taught me angels can be bad guys too. That blew my pre-teen mind.
This was my first tales game when it came out on GC
Tales of Symphonia shares similarities towards Final Fantasy X. The main cast learns that their religion is a sham. The female leads are willingly sacrifice themselves even that it wasn’t required. Both have themes of racism and discrimination!
Yes. I knew there was something special about the story in symphonia, it blew my mind growing up and I have ever since been baffled that it is not more highly regarded. I did nearly give up on it, in the first act before reaching the tower of salvation, because it does go into the tropes really hard in that section and it seems very predictable. Obviously there are a lot of foreshadowing events going on, but I was just a kid and I didn’t really pay a huge amount of attention to them. The first twist at the tower of salvation blew me away, but maybe the most memorable is where you find out the true identity of mithos, Martel, yuan, and Kratos. I was actually in disbelief.
I'm so happy that I came across this video and found a group of folks who also deeply appreciate this game. It made such a mark on me when I played it as a child, and then I rediscovered it years later as a teenager... I think I'm overdue for another playthrough. You could probably guess from my avatar that this game is my favorite of all time!
This boss is not secret it is part of the main storyline.
Read title and description.
I've beaten this game numerous times, and maybe I've skipped or missed it somewhere along the way... but is the name "Symphonia" ever mentioned or explained anywhere throughout the story? In Tales of Vesperia, for example, they call their group "brave Vesperia", but I dont remember any of the characters in Symphonia ever actually saying the word "Symphonia" any where.
yeah combat is bad, flawed, lack of stagger sucks
I think no other video can truly encapsulate my genuine dissapointment for this game. After playing through the entire game i was left thinking to myself "is that it?!" and many of the characters within the game just felt poorly utilised from a story perspective. I believe Resh'aan and Seraii suffer from this the most. Reshann is basically non existant at the end of the game and you pretty much are just left with his empty corpse puppet following u around. Granted he never had anything really valuable to say in the party to begin with, but i genuinely think the devs where slapping the players in the face with a rubber glove when they did this.
The jingle-keys combat that has pretty much zero customisation is not satisfactory for a turn based game. Looks pretty, sounds pretty, but has no substance.
It's a 9/10 for me, Sea of Stars, I was expecting a 7/10 based on the trailers but wow, they really but a lot of love, effort and imagination into this, not to mention the soon-to-be-iconic soundtrack!
Ye I agree. It’s one of my game of the year easily. This guy is just talking crap.
Nice!!
needed this thank you, currently been in plat for about almost 2 months now, plat road block is real currently just hit plat 4 yesterday but I’m scared of ranking back down to plat 3 agin 😂 but ima keep trying my best to one day get my cammy master
What about Dweller of Torment, Leaf Monster and Bungraves and Erlina ?
Noticing you start changing weapon base on the sprite of Valere and Zale, was it not possible with the base weapons ?
ngl this was a great surprise. I remember a while back when your progress was rocky but I'm really glad that you've gotten this far. I'll be there day 1 when Banbard releases cuz not only to I want to support a fellow upcoming dev but I'm also genuinely interested in the game with what you've shown so far. Wish you the best luck hobo!
Crazy how 3 months passed and this vid still has barely any views, even though i think this is a great edit! May the algorithm be with you
10x exp 9999 Fell arm kills is a MUST else I won't even last for like 10 seconds against Zagi the first boss you fight at the START of the game so for this boss on hard mode I would still have it 1 shot even at lv 20 to lv 30 party.
This game just threw plot twist after plot twist at you and it always felt organic. The story has so many damn layers you don't notice on your first go that it has replayability on its own.
This isn't helpful for me, but I'm really glad that you create content that helps people with things like this. We need more tutorials like this on RUclips. Thank you for your service. (Also cool pfp, that's the reason I clicked) and I will be playing your game on steam
Very good review
