Don't understand how Spielberg and Zemeckis let almost the entire movie be shot before realizing it wasn't going to work with Stoltz. Surely, they would know when he wouldn't take direction and adjust his performance. I mean, they should have known in rehearsals.
Tom was one of my favorites of the movie. Heck, the whole trilogy for that matter. He was so good and funny in those movies. You couldn't have had a better Biff 😆
I’ve been in situations before where I think “man what have I done wrong everyone is mad at me” and then get to work and realize no one is even thinking of you they’re upset with someone else
Not to poke holes in his story, but Family Ties was a big show and Michael J. Fox was the break out star of it and I think they actually originally wanted him for Back to the Future but had scheduling issues, so I don't think they'd talk about Michael like that... And Crispin Glover had been on Family Ties before Back to the Future, so he definitely knew who Michael was.
I wish he would have been able to do the car seat with Eric stoltz. When he would have pulled him out the car, he probably would have knocked him the f*** out LOL LOL LOL
When you consider that back to the future is a movie (to a certain degree) about the choices we make, it’s nice that back to the future’s success is based off of the choices it made (replacing Stoltz, cutting certain scenes, deciding to go with the DeLorean instead of a refrigerator). Had these decisions not been made I doubt the movie would’ve been as successful.
The refrigerator thing was because they didn't want kids to lock themselves in grandma's old refrigerator that was out in her back yard and suffocate to death. That was actually a common enough event that everyone knew about it...except kids.
I'm starting to think ALL of this was part of the plan. The thing we're realizing is.... Marty dies. Marty dies a LOT. Doc saves Marty over and over again, with perfect timing.... right as he's about to get clobbered. How could Doc do this? The same way Marty saved Doc: by WITNESSING his death the first time. Or MANY times. Meaning Marty dies many times through the Back to the Future trilogy. But Doc keeps going back and saving him until he gets him back home in the end. Eric Stoltz represents the ORIGINAL Marty, who dies. He no longer exists. Crazy to think this was all part of the game.... but I really believe they took it THAT far. Back to the Future is legendary.
2024-imagine being the main character and getting fired from one of the greatest trilogies of all time. AFTER basically completing the film...Id have a huge chip on my shoulder...I guess that's what you get for being a drama queen
I'm not going to live forever. WTF are they going to release the Stoltz version? Let us decide for ourselves whether it was any good. We're coming up on the 40th anniversary! Show it!
Doubtful. They were probably on a contract to be on call until the film was wrapped, at least up to a certain date that was probably several weeks down the line.
This is my favourite film of all time went to the pictures to see it in 1985 when I was 11 it blew my mind 🕰️ don’t think it would of been the same without Michael J. Fox though
This shows they genuinely cared about the art they were making. This wasn’t just a product like majority of modern movies, there was true passion and artistry and care behind this movie for them to make this drastic decision. 99% of producers today would’ve just dumped the film on streaming and moved on.
Eric Stolz if you're reading this, you were a real bell end to Tom and you deserved that "method" turnabout that should have happened later, but didn't....I for one hope you apologized profusely to him later and bought him a few beers.
i remember thinking why is marty so short compared to his dad. He doesnt really look like him. Eric stoltz and Cripin Glover loook A ton like each other. but damn he just needed to calm down with the method acting
If you haven’t seen the old TV series Freaks and Geeks, Tom plays a gym teacher and dates one of the geeks moms. He is in a few episodes. Why that series was canceled is beyond me, but Tom’s character is priceless!!!!!
Tom Wilson's reaction to Eric Stolz being fired seems an awful lot like the scene in Yes, Prime Minister when PM Jim Hacker learns that his predecessor is dead. Shocked and relieved at the same time. ruclips.net/video/I9NifqJyDMI/видео.htmlsi=Sw21y_fwWBLV917g
I can't believe that Eric pushed Tom so HARD that the latter was planning to ambush him with a real shoot punch. Tom seems like the nicest guy, just imagine how ARROGANT you have to be.
I think it’s unfair to say that Eric was playing it too dark. The difference from footage released is clearly in the script and set direction. Eric is dressed in dark clothing - the “did you jump ship” joke based on the brightly coloured top was never there at first. The scene when Marty arrives in 1955 and walks across the town square is bleakly shot with rain soaked streets. Not a bright and sunny day with pop music playing as with MJF. The role Eric was playing was clearly not the one Michael was given. It was obviously being directed as a dramatic Twilight Zone type film with a bit of comedy as opposed to the comedy with moments of drama that it became
That voice, it's so Biff

Interesting to learn that Eric Stoltz was a jerk. Perhaps that partially explains his mediocre career.
Thank god they went with Fox. The other guy probably would have sank the movie with his boring style acting
Eric Stoltz is a douchelord lol
Wilson is the perfect mix of Bully & Buffoon. His alternate job on an "Alaskan Fishing Boat" is hilarious
Eric Stoltz would be a great Marty McFly but that is Michael J Fox’s role.
ERIC STOLTZ WAS A BUTTHEAD!
Biff made the movie! He was brilliant. The chemistry been him and Michael was of the chart 🎉 love these movies 🎉
Method method method hot chick no method😂😂
Poor Stoltz acted his way out of a great part. Thank goodness! Fox was perfectly cast as Marty. Wilson played the quintessential bully to a T.
From the story Tom tells it sounds like Stoltz was rather a jerk. Hope he grew up and changed his ways at some point.
Tom was one of my favorites of the movie. Heck, the whole trilogy for that matter. He was so good and funny in those movies. You couldn't have had a better Biff 😆
Tom Wilson is awesome!!!

It would never happen, but since they shot basically the whole movie, I would love to see the Eric Stoltz cut.
There are clips on youtube. They're terrible.
@@greyeyed123ive seen bits and yeah i agree
I wish he would have been able to do the car seat with Eric stoltz. When he would have pulled him out the car, he probably would have knocked him the f*** out LOL LOL LOL
Tom Wilson was insanely good as Biff. He & Michael J. Fox were brilliant together throughout the entire trilogy.
Fascinating
That was definitely not a method punch when he connects on Tom!
Thomas Wilson is Awesome!!!!!!

I wonder if Tom called him “Butthead”
there's not a single other actor that could have played Biff as well as Tom Wilson. To me... he's part of the trifecta to making this trilogy work.

The 3rd one is my favorite..fight me

Did he get double pay?

I loved Eric Stoltz in "Some Kind of Wonderful" , but i can see how he would be super serious and not right for back to the future

Tom was absolutely brilliant in all three films. Wouldn't have been the same without him.
Hugh Grant.
Where is full interview? This is so good.
It's kind of delightful to hear someone talk so politely about someone who really, really pissed them off. Tom Wilson is such a gentle soul.

Keep coming back to this one, hilarious. Hey, Marty... Hey, ERIC!
This guys a great story teller, I can basically visualize everything he's saying 😂
What a great interview. Tom Wilson is awesome.
I don’t know why but the way he says method method method, hot chick, no method it is funny to me the way he said that😂
Biff is what makes the movie... That character is awesome!!

Wow sounds like eric is a bit of a jerk
I can't picture Eric Stoltz as Marty any more than I see Mike Fox in Killing Zoe..
The Kung Fu movie he's talking about is called La Street Fighter... tom played a small role in the spike gang😊
