2025 Expectations: How We Got Here
The diamond industry begins 2025 in a slightly more optimistic mood, but with a lot of uncertainty still clouding its outlook. There seems to be a healthier, though not optimal, supply-demand dynamic after a decent holiday season. But there are several unfinished stories that will yet impact the market. In this video I look back at those developments which shaped the diamond industry narrative in 2024 to gain a better understanding of what we can expect in the year ahead.

I think Israelis need to question actual faith. Their end is near. Medical insurance issues. Diamond issues. Etc etc.
The global natural diamond industry has been devastated by its cousin lab diamond. The same thing will happen to high priced EV's now sold in America if the US government backs off Chinese EV's being Tariffed to death. US consumers deserve a reasonably priced EV market as so does our planet.
So, what do you think it means that CEO Gina Drosos is leaving... along with some other higher ups, like Oded Edelman and Mary Liz Finn? Abandoning ship? Could the favorable treatment large companies received as a result of the Trump admin be coming to an end and they don't believe the Republicans will win this election to keep it going?
I guess I don't understand WHY there needs to be a push for natural diamonds. Stop messing up the ground, water, and air and grow them in the lab. Or... if what rumor/myth/legend says is true... release them from the vaults. There is so much mark-up in jewelry and so much of it is so poorly made.
This will help bring DeBeers back to the American market

A woeful effort - hopeless - will have absolutely no positive effect
Too yesteryear; too copycat; too bad. This long-form spot tries to speak to multi ethnic couples (with an obvious attempt to win back a warning Asian marital diamond population). A misguided media effort attempts to embrace a multicultural psychographic but missed that mark. Multicultural must include the LGBTQ community. Minus a debatable, blink and you'll miss it car couple scene, there is no representation of this important buying group. Also, the life journey theme of finding your soulmate doesn't magically connect people within the "perfect" age range that De Beers and Signet force, and modern couples come from a multitude of economical and eco-minded backgrounds- these critical components are also missing. The majority of media buys will probably utilize the :30 and :15 edited options of the industry promoted :90 version, which only reinforce the lack of each aforementioned issue. Finally, whatever time signature spot viewers may see, any emotional connectivity aligned with Natural Diamond attributes are also missing, so one could end this commercial with any laboratory-grown diamond "brand" and the result would be equally lackluster.
Could it be that Jewelry fashions at present has very few diamonds so there for less polish sales .

Come on Avi - we all know that these ‘initiatives’ will have little to no effect.
At this stage the only story in town is LGD and it’s serious negative effects on demand for natural rough.
Natural diamonds have an inherit, rich history. The mining sector could be focused on the glorious, natural allure of love and diamonds, yet seem distracted by "owning" words like real and rare. The C-suite circles I'm around acknowledge a diamond demand drop, but are split. Some favoring your logic, while others should soon be voicing their discontent over what I call a Natural Diamond major marketing mishap.

No. Lab grown diamonds have become very popular and mainstream. And with this global inflation and struggling global economy, no way.
Natural diamonds stand the test of time as a symbol of enduring value and sentiment. Unlike lab-grown diamonds (LGD), which are increasingly mass-produced and dropping in price without passing savings to consumers, natural diamonds retain their uniqueness and rarity. Their scarcity makes them a better store of value, preserving both financial worth and emotional significance for generations to come. While LGDs may seem appealing in the short term, natural diamonds offer lasting value and a timeless connection to the Earth’s natural beauty.
I'm confused at what you're disagreeing with. Avi notes LGDs as a headline competitor on the start of this video. Perhaps now more than ever, an urgency to "relaunch" North American natural diamond demand is at hand. What's missing is retail reaction and how independents are planning to reignite natural diamond demand while selling LGDs.

Diamonds are just products of advertising hype - think Frances Gerety's "A Diamond is Forever" slogan - with prices artificially hiked by a cartel which strictly controls and limits their supply. I would rather buy a moissanite any time and am glad to hear more people are waking from the insidious spell of spin doctors.
NATURAL DIAMOND IS NOT AN INVESTMENT BUT A FAKE RARITY BECAUSE DIAMONDS ARE COMMON. TRY SELLING YOUR DIAMOND AND YOU WILL LOSE A TONNE OF MONEY FROM THE PURCHASED PRICE.

the west love for diamond is establish after generation of marketing, there is no such organised marketing by jewellers in China. since chinese jewellers don't own big diamond mines, is it rational to expect them to push the sale of diamond as heavily? it really depend on how much profit they can make of diamond compare to other rock.

Agree with everything you said Avi - in addition, demand for rough has been very severely dented by lab grown - so the rough market could return to equilibrium but at a much lower level of rough sales
No mention of how the growing popularity of lab diamonds is having a direct effect on DeBeers oversupply. 💎

Spot on Avi. I thought we were almost through this crash in the diamond market but will all the reports I am seeing we have not yet hit bottom. Lab growns have taken a pretty big market share. I believe more than expected by many in the trade.

Natural diamonds are on life support. This is their last-ditch effort to try and revive the natural diamond market. I don’t blame them for trying. However, I don’t believe it will work. I think we will continue to see the popularity of natural diamonds decline while the popularity of lab grown diamonds increases. The concept is simple: You can get a lab grown diamond, which is a REAL diamond, that is significantly larger, significantly better color & clarity, and significantly less expensive.
