when i was about 10 or 11 i caught a conga eel on mackerel line off the coast of Mevagissey, i was the youngest on the boat by 4 or 5 years so i didn't get the big Conga hook with the squid bait on it. I must've been reeling her in for a good 20 minutes, turns out the line had wrapped around the eel and i'd pulled it up sideways, grumpy old Captain was flabbergasted. Happy memory.

On a real note it’s sad where I pheasant hunt (today was the last day) everything is all developed so all the good spots are gone as well all the peoples kids kill them too many people for too small of an area I’m sure people kill a lot of hens and leave them too , it’s sad a hen is sacred that’s like 25 future pheasants for the next season

Depends on what you're after. For large blue cat, cut shad. For large flathead, live perch. For smaller channel cats and smaller blues, catfish charlie blood bait "B" , the company out if Iowa, is the best I have found in the last 50 years, though there are some days that local punch baits seem to work better than anything here in North Texas. For small channels and small blues, its best to sour maize for three weeks in a bucket of water in the sunshine and sink it weighted in a burlap bag in 4 to 8 ft of water near a gentle current. Make sure the catfish cannot get into the burlap bag, knot tie the top a couple of times then cut a piece of trotline and cinch the bag tightly right below your knot ties so the bag stays closed . Old bricks or big rocks or cinderblocks can weight down your burlap bag. Sink the bag with a five gallon 🪣 bucket's worth of the soured rotting milo in it, wait 48 hours, and come back ready to catch fish. I like to use this technique for lazy fishing at night with my pontoon boat. You can bring several folks. The lighted bobbers with bait just off the bottom thrills the small kids, though I usually fish tight lining with my bait inches off the bottom using a slip cork and small bullett weight.

Lab? Probably one of the worst dogs I’ve hunted upland over. They have a good nose but they flush right away. They also give up to easy. All they want to do if retrieve. The best dog I’ve ever hunted over was a GSPxGWP had range, held point, Never gave up looking for birds, Natural retriever and to hand at that. My gf doesn’t like touching birds and if she’s close to him when he retrieves he tries to hand it to her and won’t give up till she grabs it. dog was good.

It depends more on of where you are and what you want like use live bait to catch more flathead and big catfish in the summer in the fall use cut bait if u want smaller ones use worms and other things like hotdogs and stuff
