    The printing on tape idea is great! Thank you for that, my downtown Deco kit is still in the box, I took it out and started cleaning up the edges and plaster was everywhere and my entire model room smelled like a hospital 😂.... I will eventually get at it

    Great video. It would be interesting to see this done with materials at hand for modelers who can't spend a good amount of money on premade supplies.

    Interesting but fails to mention any of the English or European versions of On30, that pre-date the North American modeling by about 30 or more years,. There are examples of O scale models running on HO scale tracks using Bring and Trix locomotives as a starting point from around the mid-1930s and being very popular back in the 1960s in Europe and the UK.

    Steve the Peco On18 track you referred to does thar have wood ties ? I think Peco lists that track as Ho n30 / N scale track with wood ties. I have not used that myself but modeling in Ho n30 and interested. So many different tracks and manufactures it becomes confusing.

    • @TheJpec361
      @TheJpec361 2 месяца назад

      The track used in On18 from Peco is their HOn30 range. The "wood" ties are actually plastic. They say wood because they also offer track with plastic "concrete" ties.

    I would model P48 in a hot second, but it has two problems as I see it. 1. The lack of 2-rail locomotives that can easily be converted. 2. I don’t want to learn the skills, or buy the tools required to rebuilt O scale brass steam, which is also difficult to find. Now, if a manufacturer like Atlas started offering P48 locomotives then I’d be all in.

    Steve, it's a natural evolution. We change, life changes and we re-assess. I stopped building big layouts about 20 years ago. I build micros and shelf layouts now. I was involved with building 2 large layouts, putting in 10+ years of construction only to see them be taken down at the end because either the owner moved or realized what a maintenance monster they were building.

    What a terrific program. And Robert comes across exactly what one would hope. He is enthusiastic, has a clear sense of what he wants and already involved. His college objectives are right in sync w model RR objectives. Wish him the best. Given the drought of young modelers, this is a very innovative approach to enrolling youth. Well done to the organizers and sponsors.

    Hey Steve, your new layout series is fantastic and I look forward to following along. With your plan for a raised layout I was wondering what you recommend for drainage? With the plastic against the walls all of the water would you need some kind of weeping tile like you'd have in a house foundation? Thanks!

    This was such a fitting tribute to a fine group of men. I found out today that Paul Dolkos passed on so that's 5 world-class modelers we have lost in the last few weeks. They all bought so much joy to so many people, it's a huge hole in our world but as Fr. Ron said, we shouldn't try to fill it but use it to remember them.

    Isn’t this in essence Blue Rail or dead rail? With which batteries aboard locomotives is what powers it and the transceiver aboard which communicates with a wireless throttle. No need for powered tracks although if there is power to the track some engines can use that to keep their batteries charged while being run or sitting on a siding, the smart ones without overcharging them. Why all the hush hush? This tech has been around for years. Not by a big investor or with NMRA standards but available. Unless of course the “wireless” discussed here is something else.

    Great story about 3d printing. I have been printing and selling mostly N-Scale for a year now with over 200 models available. I started getting requests for a model in this scale or that scale and have slowly been making my models available in other scales, including O. I was selling some on Shapeways but being mostly N scale, Shapeways was difficult because they would not print very fine detail. I had a lot of models that I just could not modify to make available on shapeways. Ebay and printing my own stuff is the best option I have come up with.
