    Any tips or strategy for the farmers carry. I have signed up for an event in the UK in October. Starting to notice am really finding this exercise tough. Any strategies or ideas would be appreciated. I enjoyed your video

      While taxing on grip, this can also challenge core stability and leg strength. I’d encourage becoming proficient at deadlift over the long term while doing dead hangs and flexed arm hang on a pull up bar and then also continued Farmer’s Carry for near-term improvement. There are plenty of ways to improve grip strength and Farmer Carry ability, that’s a great start point.

    Any tips for getting better at running defo my worst part ?

    • @suffercity1
      @suffercity1 4 месяца назад

      Great question. Easy answer is to "start building mileage". Low-resolution, "Zone 2" type of mileage for up to 80% of your run training, with the other 20% targeting speed with various intervals and distance takedowns. Here's a short video on Zone 2 running: ruclips.net/video/T_iFgLOnYbc/видео.htmlsi=j7YhqXLwNDpHDJAO

    Really great information! I have a year before I plan to do a Hyrox. After the 60-75 days, How do you recommend intensifying the training? Any recommendations on adding mobility and stretching to the mix?

    • @suffercity1
      @suffercity1 4 месяца назад

      Great points… For starters; range of motion (mobility + elasticity) are implicit to any effective program and there are scores of great content of effective mobility continuums. Check out The Supple Leopard and Kelly Starret or “Ben”, the Knee Over Toes Guy. There are countless others, but they’re a great start. depending on the sport, the program, and the coaching philosophy you can break down a “cycle of training” into different phases, each with their own duration. Traditionally, phases will increase in volume and intensity whilst building toward a “peak” performance to map onto any race or event. Then, of course, there are training protocols to sustain and even program fitness through a race season while engaging in a good frequency of races. I plan to do a video on training phase time/energy distribution here soon that better breaks down an approach to each training phase as it relates to HYROX. Thanks for watching this video and I hope it helped.

  • @andyhepburn2842
    @andyhepburn2842 8 месяцев назад

    Good video but overall volume seems extremely high there are only 7 days in a week

    • @suffercity1
      @suffercity1 6 месяцев назад

      You are correct. For a novice athlete without a solid base, this volume will be overwhelming. However; if you're aiming towards high-output performances, podium finishes, and a world championship bid, then a weekly volume of 12 hours would be a minimum while you'd like to aim at a 15-plus hour a week schedule. Understand, this would not be 15-plus hours of "hard" training. In fact, upwards of 70 to 80 percent would be considered "easy" training. True, this type of volume is not for everyone, but is for anyone who has their aim set on being a top performer in the sport. That's not to say you can't do well in these races on a more reasonable weekly training volume of 7 to 10 hours a week; but the idea when it comes to training for pro-level performance is to expose the athlete to as much volume as they can recover from.

    Congrats dude! Quick question - you look pretty tall; I'm 6'5 myself and I always find things like burpees and wall balls aren't designed for us tall blokes! Any tips for either?

    • @jasonamerica4573
      @jasonamerica4573 11 месяцев назад

      For wallballs, improve your barbell front squat and barbell thruster efficiency between 95lb and 115lb and start to work those at high rep ranges (50-60 reps per cycle). More stability and more strength endurance will help there. As for burpees; just got to train miserably and integrate burpees into sessions at high rep counts. I do, personally, work to stay low and not stand all the way up and I’ve also found favor in “stepping” my feet up to hands in the burpee instead of “jumping”-I seem to keep a better flow. We’ll see how it goes during this next training cycle though. Did a bunch of burpees this week and it’s been tough.

      Pure misery, right!? What'll help is if you implement into your training doing MORE THAN 100 or integrating aggressive running or other cardiovascular-dominant exercise with your ultra-high rep Wall Balls. Do your best to train beyond the work demand you'll experience in your race or competition. It sounds difficult when you consider the workload of a Hyrox race, but for a great race experience, you'll have to do it, smartly.

      I'll have to double check...I realize the website says 50m for both Push and Pull, but when I measured the distances at the race venues, it's closer to 25m per 1/2 lap, of which 4 half-laps are complete equaling roughly 100m. In any case, it feels like a mile ;-) Thanks for the heads up on this...it's worth following up on.

    Very helpful info. What is your recommended amount of time to sit in the sauna and frequency? Is there a too often or too little?

    • @suffercity1
      @suffercity1 Год назад

      Hi, thanks for the comment and question...albeit 7 months ago 😬(thanks for your patience). While effective sauna durations will vary per individual and the exact temperature of the sauna will also impact duration, I recommend 10 to 20 minutes to get started at a sauna temp of 180 - 190 degrees, and then work to extend up to 30min. Also, you can be in sauna until it's "too much" and then get out for a couple minutes and then get back in. The goal, eventually, is to have an innate "sense" of when your body has expelled what it needs to; and as far as frequency, study results vary, but I'd recommend 1 to 3 times a week post-training. Even one good sauna session per week can have lasting effects. Also, remember to hydrate and replenish nutrients upon exiting the sauna for optimal recovery. Does that answer your question?
