@SoundsLikeThisGear finally got it working again yesterday. My upgrade to Cubase 13 knocked it out for a bit. Made two little tracks in an hour. More inspiring to me than a lot of VST alternatives. This definitely has groove 😎👌

Yes, I was also pleasantly surprised that it held the entire AWM2 engine, as well as FM. There sure is a lot of bang for the buck with this one. 👌

That sounds strange. And you did create a time signature trak in 7/4 I suppose? I just made that one change and Drummer and Bass Player just adjusted to that immediately.

Sure, no problem. So, I have actually become used to - and quite fond of - the micro keys. At first it felt strange with so small keys - now I almost find regular keys too large. As for the sounds, some of my (preset) favorites are the A43 Wheel Lead and A46 Phase EP. But overall, many nice presets, and if you want to edit it is also fairly intuitive to do so.

@@SoundsLikeThisGear I also have one, and the more I use it and dig into sound design, I'm becoming more fond to it too. Wanted to change it for a MK2 but I guess I'll miss a lot the vintage sounds which appears to be missing on the new Micro

Yes, i have had the same concerns. Especially as I love the Phase EP. I will probably get a mkII, but whether I'll keep it, only time will tell. .-)

I agree, I hadn't heard of it before I got the NI Komplete 14 bundle. And I do like it, was pleasantly surprised - as i was with many of the other lesser known NI synths (e.g. Form).

To be honest, FM is rather a new field to me. I grew up with romplers, which is probably why I am so focused on presets right out of the box more than sounds design. But it is my understanding that many find the opsix range the pinnacle of FM synhesis. I may want to dive deeper into sound design some day, but for now, I concentrate on presenting presets as they were born. :-)

Thanks! And sorry to hear you have had issues with it. I haven’t changed a single setting. That’s the whole idea behind this channel - to demo presets exactly as they are. As for velocity, I don’t have the MIDI file at hand here and now, but I think a few notes are close to around 120, but in general velocity is medium.

No, unfortunately there was no acoustic pianos at all. Not even the SG Piano from the XL models. But it was labeled ‘Prototype’ at the show so they may add some sounds before the actual launch.

@@SoundsLikeThisGear let's hope if anything, MK2 can be a very good potential replacement for the MKXL+ ... IF ... it had some of the good goodies from the XL+ like the split and some of the DWGS waves but having 3 oscilators and a harmonizer, including the looper, sounds like something interesting let's see, let's see, thanks for sharing

@@SoundsLikeThisGear fingers crossed, I got mine like 2 years ago but just now I'm actually learning synthesis more deeply, for my needs those vintage keyboard sounds as well as the capacity to split the keyboard are perfect, would be great if the Dual for the MK2 could have start and end key so we can program a split, but for the rest, I'm currently liking the UI and the workflow so far, fingers crossed

@@SoundsLikeThisGear I just read the manual, effectively, no Piano DWGS, nor even C-Piano DWGS... what a bummer, also no Split... for the rest, seems like a very promising upgrade. The only thing is to try to synthesize a piano patch with the 3 OSC, it has Osc 1 and Osc 2 as wave sources, and the 3rd one can be used to modulate the first 2, that's neat

More or less, probably. As far as I can read, MODX is also based on the AWM2 sound engine plus Yamaha FM - just like SEQTRAK. There may be a spnic difference in the D/A conversion, though.

To be honest, the last time I played an OG MicroKorg was whennkt was released over two decades ago. I just can’t make that call. But woild like to do a demo on the OG some day.

No clue... I am not affiliated with Korg in any way - or Behringer for that matter. All I can see is that some dealers state an estimated delivery date.

I foresee similar with this model given China's retaliatory actions against world because their EV's are being taxed up the ying yang. Korg is Japanese brand but 95% of product build relies on China

Yes, when doing the MicroKorg XL+ demos, which were my first, I recorded the MIDI in Logic while capturing video. Those MIDI files are then used to trigger all other synths (soft synths as well as hardware) from Logic so that the same video files can be used. The point is to build ever-growing shootouts where each synth is triggered by the same MIDI and has the same backing tracks. For comparison purposes.

I am not sure anyone knows for sure. It has been pushed back a few times and at this point most dealers say 12-15 weeks on their websites.

At the first glance, yes it does tick quite a few boxes (so to speak!). But I need to have it available in a 'controlled' studio environment before I can really know for sure if it's a long term winner for me. It has not yet hit store shelves unfortunately, but I will buy one as soon as they become available and create structured demos of it. SO please do stay tuned and check in once in a a while. :-)

I beleive both Montage and MODX - and MOFX and Morif for that matter - all rely on the same samples from Yamahas AWM2 sound engine. And the SEQTRAK also dig into the AWM2 engine. That said, there may be some differences across products using the same samples - for instance internal filters and D/A conversion.

I am not if they changed it. It feels quite good - as does the OG and the XL ane XL+ versions. When recording it at Superbooth I was mostly focused on the sounds :-)

Sure, but at least they kept updating the editor/librarian software to keep it compatible with newer computers (I think v1.7 was released earlier this year to support Apple Silicon machines).

@@SoundsLikeThisGear True, but Mininova was designed to compete against the old Microkorg and was a good alternative but they lost faith in it and stopped promoting it. With new and old Microkorgs in 2024 at diff. price points Mininova will be slaughtered unless it's updated. I own an Ultranova by the way so I'm not against the Novation

Absolutely, and yes Korg has been keeping the MiniKorg alive for quite some time - can’t wait to give MicroKorg 2 a real demo. I noodled around with it at NAMM and Superbooth, but would really like some quality time with it in the studio.

I suspect it is part of increasing the number of presets and banks so much.

Do you mean in a synth/sample library? Or in a real bass? I am actually a bass player more than a keys player, and my best guess is that it is a MusicMan Stingray bass with fresh roundwound strings. At least that's what it sounds like to my ears.

Thanks! Well, I didn’t do anything. I only demo stock presets and some of them come with arpeggio patterns activated as part of the preset.

It's the one function I can't figure out how to do on it.

To set the arp, use the app. Select a synth track and on the right, 2nd knob from the top activates the type of arp. The app shows you the other arp settings. Without the app, it's similar. On a selected synth track, click the button under the 4 four vertical knobs till you get to other then turn the 2nd knob from the top to turn on the arp type.

I used Logic Drummer and Logic Retro Synth for bass.
