It was clear he did not care about taking day off he never make his family first because he prefer work then need of other, showing he didn't care and just make his work come first because he was thinking it was not important and that he will never think of his family first only his job was important some people are just like him while other do make their family first while other don't. Because Jack just wanted to be nice to him by saying he should make his family first but he refused showing that his pride will always make him chose work over other things showing he didn't care about family matter and it will never come before work. It was clear Mr. Roodney when he was young he prefer go to school and miss the funeral of his family members because for him it was not important while it should because his pride make him believe it while it is important if you don't show is direspectful but seem he didn't care.
