NWSL Film Study - KC Current vs Washington Spirit
This women's soccer film study focuses on Michelle Cooper's touches against the Spirit. She was one of the stronger players in this match and provided a great example of how to play as a right winger.
Video includes extended highlights from the Kansas City Current's 3 - 0 win over the Washington Spirit.

    I just discovered this through a KC Current fan page. I'll busily watch what else you've produced, but this was an awesome video. The person I'd love to see you review is Claire Hutton. While she has been away at the U20 World Cup, the Current have not looked as good. This game versus Washington being the lone exception. I suspect that Hutton plays an out-sized role for the team despite being a rookie. A video on her efforts (perhaps with the coming game or two) would be nice.

      Nice to hear this is being shared. I've really enjoyed watching her at the U20 WWC, that team even looked not as good without her so there's definitely something to it! She's definitely on my radar, I've been enjoying taking a look at the rookies.

    Great show....If you don't mind, please talk about KCs goalkeeper Schult......She is one of the best in the league....I knew her game since about 10-12 years ago, and it was just as impressive then, as it is now.......I expect KC to take a huge step toward winning the league, but if not this year, next year for sure.....right now she's top 2-3 goalkeepers in the league, and KC might need another central defender to become a top notch team.....

  • @MitchA18

    Great to focus on Cooper. I think with so many rookies coming into the league recently she’s fallen off the radar a bit since she hasn’t found the back of the net much. But this really shows her value on and off the ball. I wonder if she’ll be able to get on the radar of the national team, it seems like she might fill the Rodman role well with that combo of defensive pressure and creating width. Just missing the goals… Would love to see her find her shooting boots like Thompson has recently.

    • @BusyWatchingWomensSoccer
      @BusyWatchingWomensSoccer 4 дня назад

      It was about halfway through making the video that I googled and realized she was last year's 2nd pick in the draft, so attention certainly moves around the league quickly, myself included! Perfect time of the year to start finding the back of the net, 2024 rookies had the first half of the season but I think this later half is for the 2023s.

    I don't think it's any coincidence that when Cooper was missing for several games, first at the Olympics, then out with a nagging injury, Kansas City struggled to maintain their scoring output. To me, she is their most *essential* offensive player. Yes, Chawinga is great, Debinha and LaBonta are both terrific, but Michelle Cooper is, as they say, the straw the stirs the drink.

    • @BusyWatchingWomensSoccer

    I’m so glad for Orlando Pride this season! Things seem to be falling into place for them, and I feel like it’s a combination of things in addition to great coaching, team camaraderie, and management that cares for the club. 1) Being the first team to protect their players from the expansion draft last year to ensure they could continue to build team chemistry, placing trust and value in each individual player. 2) Sharing a moment of adversity early on as a team when Luana was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma, the team has continued to wear arm bands all season for her. It shows true character and love for one another as life does transcend the game. 3) Missing the playoffs by a hair last year, being below eventual champions, Gotham. This catalyst event has given them all the motivation to push not only for the playoffs but hardware too. Orlando has shared moments that have established and strengthened their team core and foundation. With that, they can freely approach each match with fearlessness and infectious joy, making each moment so exciting to watch!

    • @BusyWatchingWomensSoccer
      @BusyWatchingWomensSoccer 19 дней назад

      Wow, so much great context behind their play that I wasn't aware of, the roster building is a piece of art, the organization clearly knew what they were doing with the expansion draft. The infectious joy is what does it for me, no goal is ever met with relief, it's just pure love and excitement from the entire team, the entire staff. I'd love to see them win it all, they just seem to be doing everything the right way. I for one will not be missing anymore Pride games!

There’s too many players to shout out but wanted to give some love to Haley Mccutcheon. She does so much unselfish dirty work for the team. With the loss of Ertz felt like such a lack of cdm’s in the US but now with her, Coffey, Howell, Flint, Hutton, Hershfelt, Martin and Loera there’s never been more talent in this position.

I know Horan does something’s good but I thought Lavelle would have been a better start only because Horan does not have good speed and loses the ball too much and gives the ball away in crucial situations; and we could have lose as well as win ;

    None of these strategies matter as long as Emma Hayes avoids instructing this group of talented players on what to do. They have the potential to be world leaders. The goals that won us the Gold came from individual brilliance, driven by instinct, like Trinity Rodman's goal in the game against Japan and Korbin's pass to the center during the Brazil match. Captain Horan was ineffective, playing too passively according to Emma's plan. We won thanks to the exceptional players, especially goalie Maher.

    • @BusyWatchingWomensSoccer
      @BusyWatchingWomensSoccer Месяц назад

      It's a good question, my guess is by creating more diagonal passing lanes than square passing lanes, you're starting to set up for the next passes in a sequence. There's three diagonals backwards so you have a short, medium, and long option. Tons of diagonals forward to support an attack, but by pivoting in the midfield you've also left space for your forwards to leave their position and have a bit of freedom in. And then you have the flexibility to use those structures together, I sort of think of it like pinball, the ball goes up to the defensive mid, bounces back to the centerback, and it plays out from there. Just my take.

    Very informative. i love watching the USWNT for any match even friendlies. The Triple Espresso is awesome! I think you should send your video to FS1/FS2 so you could become an analyst.

    great, super helpful video as always. sorry if this is a dumb question, im still trying to learn, but would these formations be created based on player skills or do we just assume this level player can play however Emma wants them to with the system she likes? or i guess im asking how does a coach decide what formation they are using?

      There's no dumb questions in life! It totally differs by coach but with Hayes I think conceptually she's executing what she's done recently at Chelsea. An offensive shape that's focused on building from the back (3 defenders instead of 4 creates space to move into and pass out of, lots of width around the midfield to start stretching the opposition), and a compact defensive shape. My guess is she then looks at the specific players skills to decide how she wants the team to function. Think about the back three in possession, it's Davidson/Girma/Fox and Dunn's higher up. That could just as easily have been Dunn/Davidson/Girma with Fox higher up. What was Hayes looking for when deciding between Dunn or Fox for that role?
