Hiking to Lone Pine Lake from Whitney Portal | First Day of Fall | Sierra Nevada | Eastern Sierras
Hey, hiking fam!
This was my first trip up to the Eastern Sierras, and wow, I’m still speechless. On this adventure, I joined my good pals Sherman "The Tank," Andy, and his son Liam. We started the hike around 2 PM and finished around 6:30 PM. Along the way, we passed some amazing waterfalls and felt the cold temps. The day before, there was some bad weather closer to the top, but the hike was an awesome experience. I can’t wait to explore more of the Sierras with these great guys. I also tried out some new music in this video-hope you all enjoy it!

that's one beautiful lake!
Bro there is Trout everywhere you look in the sierras!
Mike Tyson over Shook Ones does the trick!
@@soilrocktree it was the vibe!
Incredible footage! The views on this hike are out of this world. The thorns suck though. The climb up to the peak made me think of Skyrim 😂
Love the energy of this video!
Thank you! 😊
Seems like a fun hike
@@veeponyo it is so rad one of the favorites for sure
The maintained Strawberry Peak trail and Colby Cyn Trail from SPT to Josephine saddle are maintained by the Lowelifes Respectable Citizens Club
That’s really good to know thank you Matt!
@5:59 there used to be a scramble up a gully after traversing to the left...
@@mattmaxon7783 thanks Matt! It was cool meeting you!!! I think it’s still there I think I just missed it lol
Can I do this with my family as a 5’4 kid? I’ve hiked a lot before and have done Strawberry before. Thanks for the nice guide though!
Hey anytime! Everyone’s skill level is different I’m not sure I could give you a yes or no! I’d say don’t go beyond your limits. You can always turn back the mountain will always be there
Awesome I can’t wait to go to Catalina! I heard it’s expensive 😅
It wasn’t too bad in total maybe $300 with permits and food included
sick, what drone is this?
Thanks brother I missed this one!! DJI airs2
Nice my first ever backpacking the trip was the TCT too back in 2014, a beautiful place
@@veeponyo that’s awesome have gone back since?
@@TheHikingChef I have done it 3 times total the last time was back in 2016, and don’t know if my body could handle it again I’m out of shape right now 😂 great content by the way subbing to see more 🙏🏻
any chance this could still be running in September?
It definitely might running I usually try to check the most recent pictures on AllTrails.com when I search the trail
super cool video once again my friend! you are crushing this challenge
Thank you big dawg!
Love Ontario peak. Love the music❤
Thanks so much! Unfortunately I get a lot of hate on the tunes!
How do you get on top of the dam?!
Hey sorry for the delay there is a trail to the right of the dam! I haven’t done it yet
I watched your video of mount baldy 3 days ago and inspired me to climb it today keep up the good work love the videos
Awesome! Thank you! That’s what I do this for!!!
Tomahawk on a mountain 🤤🤤🤤
@@xJUNIOR16559x haha yes!! Thank you!!
That's a pretty awesome place. Great job!!!!
@@lrod1158 thank you!!
Awesome hike! San Jacinto next? Do you plan to attend the six-pack finisher party?
Hey I missed this one I would really love to attend!
Great video production, especially your trips with the cooking! San G. Is great hike from Vivian, SB trail and dry lake trail. The SB mountains never get old hikeing in the snow in late may, warm days in August and before the winter storms in November. A couple weeks ago I swam in dry lake on my way up and a swim in dollar lake on the way back. Only in the last two years the two lakes have had water, all the prior hikes via south fork trail the lakes were dry in July-August. In December-February check out the southern desert peaks like Villager, Rabbit, Dawn, Whale and Martinez peaks, they are great challenging day hikes without mountaineering.
I am defiantly going to hit those peaks you recommended this year thank you!! And as for your swims that’s sounds so cool I have to do that!
Hell yeah!!
Thank you!! 🙏
I love your videos 😊
Thank you so much!!!! 😊
The fall is so beautiful! I think this is a strenuous hike compared to Lower Yosemite Fall & Vernal Fall because its trail has so many creeks to cross & so slippery. But it’s really worth the hike. Thanks for sharing.❤
That’s awesome thank you! I actually saw pictures recently and there is still a good water flow!! I hope you can check it! It’s not too strenuous!
I had no clue that was there. Probably a trickle during summer 🤷♂️
Yes probably a trickle but hopefully after this winter or some big rain storms it will be on again!!!
Real ones do the 6 mile hike over the mountain. It’s less of a walk. More of a hike. (I don’t recommend it actually, it sucked so much)
That’s cool I was super interested in checking out the rest of the trestle bridges cars and tunnels! Next time I’ll do the scramble for sure
California is breathtaking man, such a stunning trail.
Thanks brother! The place you go aren’t bad either!!!!!!
I climbed this peak twice ! Once as a teen age camper and the second time as a 20 year old camp leader. Thanks for the memories. Your photography and use of the drone is excellent.
Thank you!!! Has it changed much? I’m not sure if the fire had happened yet?
Do any of the peaks you’re doing allow for disperse camping?
Yes as matter of fact you can back pack all the peaks so far. There is plenty of camping spot along the way or even my favorite at the peaks!!Stay going out there!!!
those views are insane!!
Yes thank you brother! Love that you watched thank you!!
People under estimate the San Gabriel mtns and especially Baldy. Aside from navigational errors the white stuff is generally ice, one mistake and you're not stopping until you hit something large enough to stop you or you get to the bottom
That is very true!!
Thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Is it easy to follow the trail to the waterfalls?
Yes it is a wide of enough trail with not really any side trails you could accidentally turn on. But I would always try to download a map or pick one up at your local REI. It’s good practice and good piece of mind!!
Love the hiking, hate the music
Dang
Hiya Joseph, is this Eathon canyon?
No but very close!! Mt. Wilson via Little Santa Anita Trail
Mt. Wilson is where that group of guys went every year until the Sasquatch said, Get out of my house...
True story?
What a beautiful trail!
Thanks I was surprised at the weather!
nice!!!
Thank you brother!!
Hiking Mt.Wilson barefoot ?? What a beast, that’s some major grounding
Yes I was beside myself
It's a firefighting self-replenishing cistern built im the late 1940's early 1950's as a watershed protection project paid for with bond money from Los Angeles County flood control district, I'm pretty sure it also paid for the various fire stations like Angels Station, Clear Creek Mill Creek, Monte Cristo ect. This is when the road was built from Josephine Gap to Josephine Saddle
That’s super rad info thank you!
Lived 10 minutes from Mt Baldy my entire life. Never fails that every year, someone goes up hiking when they had ZERO business to do so (unprepared, bad weather, going solo) and they fail to come home. It’s not a difficult hike, but the second you lose respect for the mountain…game over.
Is believe that it’s because it is so close to such a heavily populated area. It gets a lot of traffic and the odds of someone not coming home goes way up! Great mountain!
Ive always wanted to go to that waterfall, ive hiked that trail in blistering hot days, rainy days snowing days, and at night, i got rained out once bc my tent flooded @ 3am, i loved the video but i hope it doesnt turn that place into a dumpster like so many of my favorite spots in angeles NF by all the LA people that watch this, i know all of the secret spots in these mts, except this one 😅. Btw whats the name of the last song when youre jogging to the end?
No human experimentation... Watershed and biosphere research. Always wanted to go here and will probably check it out soon Thanks for taking me along! Search for a video by Charlie Gabaldon. It is a tour that is done periodically
Cool video! Definitely will do this hike looks very beautiful thanks for sharing
Yes!! Have fun!!
Ah Mt. Baldy, brings back memories to my 20's. I day hiked it with friends twice. It was tough, but honestly wasn't that bad of the day hike. Devil's Backbone was definitely scary. If you're ever back in Southern California, look into the 6 peaks of Southern California. Looks like you already did 2 of them, Mt. Baldy and Mt. San Antonio. Cucamonga Peak, San Gregornio, Mt. Wilson, and Mt. San Jacinto are the other 4! I summited Mt. Wilson, Cucamonga Peak, and Mt. San Jacinto, but never got a chance to finish San Gregornio (I did a overnight backpacking trip with like 12 friends but we never made it to the top lol) and didn't do Mt. San Antonio. I've heard Mt San Jacinto is the hardest, it of the 4 I did of the 6, it was God awfully hard!
Wow what a great story! Thanks for watching! Thanks for the advice my next 4 videos are all about the 6 pack of peaks! Thanks and enjoy!
It's interesting to me how much the pool at the base of the waterfall has filled up with sediment in the 40 years since I've been up there. I used to love doing cannon balls off of that big bolder. The pool used to be about 6foot deep there and deeper at the base of the falls. BTW that spring coming out of the ground was pretty much the same 40 years ago.
Wow that’s amazing! The base of the waterfall was only about two feet deep. And that is also amazing about that spring!
@@TheHikingChef That spring looks almost identical.
Another great hike with tremendous views. Hope you brought a beer to celebrate another successful summit and used the bottle opener on the tree at the summit (my ritual) if you didn't notice it, look at the bottom of the video at 11:35 and you'll see it. Great job !
Ahaha thank you that’s awesome about the bottle opener! I love that!!
It will claim you.. if you don’t respect it..
Fr fr
I just posted the same thing!!
went out Eureka Dunes some years ago with a group of Cal-tech researchers who did studies with geophones and Ground penetrating radar while we made the dunes "boom". To me it really sounds like a bunch of propeller driven aircraft in the distance. We got the sand to vibrate so much the sand was coming up about 6-12 "
I love hearing stories like that! Incredible!
been going there for years never seen anyone else back there after getting off the main trail. I know this sounds selfish but to bad it ended up on youtube, I hope it doesn't get trashed like Bonita falls all trash and spray paint, By the way your last approach in the canyon to the falls you went the hard way. stick to the left of the stream and scramble up the small rock face its a lot easier. some things should be kept secret. If you go up there please respect it pack out your trash and leave the spray paint in LA.
Ahhhhh sorry I know it is definitely a catch 22 I really enjoy showing people these beautiful place in this area. 36 years around the sun and I only discovered how beautiful California is until recently! I had no idea any of this existed here!
Love it in Ontario my home province. I can’t get out anymore I’ll follow you
Thanks for the follow! I definitely have more local spots I can’t wait to share!!
