Far too many variants to be any type of bear. Gigantopithicus has too many restrictions. From its location in Eastern China, to its vegetarian diet and it would seem that gigantopithicus was not bipedal being more of a urang a tang however paranthropus was certainly bipedal and fits far closer to big foot therefore I would guess a species of paranthropus with others possibly being relic denisovan or neanderthal, even floriencis.

I think it was sold for a very large amount of cash to a 15th century royal person with more money than brains. He was probably told that when he deciphered it he would have the elixir for everlasting life or be able to turn lead into gold, or maybe both and be able to talk to god or some other bullshit.
