I actually moved them in one of those plastic moss poles with coco chips. They are on a plant saucer with excess water, which acts as a humidity tray

I remember twice a week. But I moved them in a moss pole. So I just spray water 2/week and a soak once a week

Not that I know of. From what I’ve read and what I use is 1/4 dose to a gallon. No bad effects in my end. But I find giving a dose in the pitchers work as well well.

Tank is about 11 months old now. Last count I did, chili x6, cory x7 and I added 5 cpds last last year. There still dozens of shrimps. The monstera is growing large roots that I need to trim and the pennywort has taken over. Helps keep the tank clean

Yeah, and a lot of the small ones are starting to get big. Really interesting to see the change in the pitchers as they get big.

My whole collection is 7 complex hybrids that are maybe 2-3 years old from seed. I can't wait to see them mature!

@@brentsims9114 that’s cool, growing them from seed. Mine are all established when I purchased them. You’re right,, the exciting part is to see the difference as they mature. They look different as they grow.

I grew up in the Philippines and I have no issues just picking up stuff from streams. Here though, I can’t just do that. Which I understand, it might affect local critters and stuff, not to mention park laws and private property laws. I looked up ordering from a landscape company, but they have minimum order requirements, that is not only expensive but might end up with so much more than I need to. So I’m using the rocks I dug up and buying bricks from Home Depot.

@@mokong4427 yea I've heard of pretty strict laws in western countries, prices of rocks and sand is way too much there

Thank you. No koi. The pond is to small for that and I stopped the pump filtration. I have swordtails, small so low bio load. I think the plants had started to get established, the pond water started to get clear akd the green water disappeared. So far so good.

@@mokong4427 oh, I'd recommend you use a pump to increase the flow of water, that way there will be low chances of mosquitoes breeding

@@DanRemdor trying to do a semi wildlife pond, I want to avoid sucking up the mini critters that are essential to a setup like that. With that said, I added the swordtails pretty early because of the mosquito wrigglers. And they pretty much did all the work. Can’t see a single larvae since then.

There is a possibility they hunt the really small ones or babies.

@@mokong4427 i tried keeping some wild caught ones with shrimp, theyre not Chain loaches but are a Schistura specie...so far theyre not eating any shrimps, even the babies...Thanks for your reply

@@DanRemdor either one would be great. In my case, I have easier access to BBS.The I’ve seen a lot of youtube videos about how to start daphnia cultures. I just find it easier to source and start BBS

It is. I kind of learned to live with it. I do use seachem, which works, but it comes back. I just enjoy the tank for what it is and just control it.

Appreciate your feedback and the encouragement. In the 2 years that I’ve started using grow tents, I consider my set up as intermediate to warm. No significant night time drop in temp that is required by some neps and orchids. Bulbo definitely doing well for me and now I find that if they grow a certain mass, they will bloom consistently. I find restrepias do well in my setup, but I place them in the lower part of my tent, where is is more humid and temps in the 70-77F range. From stelis, the argentata amd adriannae do well, but I have one that is struggling and I believe requires the 10 degree night time drop. My Aerangis also all had bloomed for me and are in the top part of the tent which is warmer. Some pleurothallis but I chose the easy grower, intermediate/warm growers.

True. I was able to propagate two types of mosses and two ferns from the orchids I purchased from Andy’s. The mosses in my nepenthes pots are all from a tiny piece from those orchids.

I found when full it can last 3 weeks, even then there is still water barely above the filter. So the controller is the seconds timer, I set it up during the day to run once per hour for 6 seconds. Then at night 0 seconds, there is no option to turn it off or something. The mistking is nice because you can set when the day starts and when the night starts. Since it is winter, I only have the day last around 10hrs. There are 3 controllers that mistking sells. If your going to get one, just make sure you choose the one that works for your setup.

If it is, I haven’t seen any damage to the plants. What I give is diluted, in small amounts, every 2 weeks. When I learned about it, hobbyists mostly used it as a foliar spray on orchids/nepenthes. Just sharing my experience in doing this method.

yeah, keep your air tight or it cool down the tent and you lose humidity and then the room is too humid...lol! keep your all in, put the fan so it move the air close to the substrate to prevent mold but keep all that heat and himidity in!!! i even picked forest moss that i putted around my pots so it look more natural and help keep humidity up, i even put extra drosera capensis seeds that i have in the moss, it look like it grow well even tough it must be full of minerals...lol but i dont care for those capensis, i was sure it wouldnt grow, but it did!

Good point. I ran this tent without plants for a month. It does warm up the tent gradually. When I was in the testing phase I found several factors that worked quite well in my situation. First the tent is small, so heating it up won’t take too long. Next, the 5 gallon tank is heated by a 100w aquarium heater that I used for my 40 breeder. So heating a 5 gallon did not take long. The light I bought from amazon produced a lot of heat, from the actual reviews from Amazon. And it does heat up the air that I opened the vent on top a little bit and even moved the fans to get better circulation. I did get molds on the bical pitchers and I was told in forums that it is due to the nectar that the pitchers produce. Not a big deal as long as it does not affect the plant. As for the humidity escaping into the room, so far I don’t find that an issue. The infra red light definitely is a good suggestion and will keep it in mind if ever I decide to get a bigger tent, cause I don’t think this method will work on a bigger tent.depending on what happens this winter, I might keep this setup permanent, our Texas summers are so harsh.

As for temperatures go, I targeted 85f and find to hot in a small space. So I dialed it down to 80F and so far I get the right humidity of around 75-80%. The bicals are still getting newer pitchers. So far so good.

I did a video where I placed it outdoors as a last resort. And finally grew new pitchers. Under our patio roof but temps went up to 110F and humidity went down as low as 30%. But still did well. Then did another video where I kept indoors because it is getting colder. I’m using a smaller grow tent with a 5 gallon tank with a heater which I learned from a forum. With the led light temps were consistent 80F and because of the evaporation humidity at around 70-80%. Bicals getting newer pitchers. So I’m glad that I found a way since I was about to give up. I will keep your suggestion about infrared light in mind. That is another method I might use in a bigger tent, because the evaporative heating method only works for smaller areas. I actually had a hard time acquiring them at that time. I need to get in a waiting list and took months before I had a call back. I moved to TX and I’ve never seen them available.

​@@mokong4427 I'm on a mission to find some for sale so I can breed them. I've found them online but I don't really want to shell out $50 each for them. I talked to a frog breeder/exporter and what he said is that shipments from China have become too expensive to afford to bring fire bellies here. And because they used to be so common nobody bred them, but then the shipments stopped and that's where we end up today.

Yeah. $50 is too much. I think I got mine for $15 each. Makes sense why they are not shipped to US anymore if they are getting expensive. They were my first semi aquatic frogs and would like to do a long term set up with them in the future. Keep me updated if you get a group and your breeding project.

If you've grown other nepenthes by your windowsill with no issues I don't think there would be any problems. I say that because bicals are quite pricey and I hate to lose one. In my case I grew a ventrata first outdoors and learned when to water, temps, humidity. those parameters you've mentioned all worked for my bicals, and are even less extreme. have a plan B, just in case

please dont, bicalcarata are lowland and live in near bog conditions at 29 - 35 °C (83 - 95°F) during the day, and 19 - 25°C (65 - 77°F) at night. and 90-100% humidity, when temp goes under 75 for prolong time is detrimental for the plant, you plant will probably live, but wont thrive and may get sick plus it is a very big plant! it get 6foot wide leaf to leaf and way more that 10feet tall!

@@motatwo I understand what you’re saying. I’m not the only one who grew bicals this way, I got advise frompeople who raise their bicals here in TX. Other outdoors until temps of 60s before they get them indoors. There are other hobbyists that has shared their experiences that worked. I’ll do updates but as far as I can say they adapt to a wide variety of ranges in terms of temps and humidity. I respect your advise but that is not the only way.

@@motatwo their size is another thing that I’m planning for the future. But as you saw in the video, it took a while since I figured out how yo make them happy. So I think I have a couple more years to plan it out.

@@mokong4427 on that one, i was speaking to the other dude... highland and intermediate especially the cross are very adaptable, but low land way less, they really need to be hot and humid, so much so that you even can keep them in water without fearing root rot! ive done tons of reashearch as alot of ppl will give bad advice that they think are good advice, ive tryed to help, but lets talk at your next update and my bical will be 3x the size of yours and 100% healty, even my mirabillis x rafflesiana would be kind of sad at 80f and its not an ultra lowland as bical is... good luck!

Some of the pitchers died but its been 7 mos and the basals are all established ang growing well. I might sell them I’m running out of room in my tent.

For a year, I kept it in my grow tent. Temp max during summer around 80 and humidity is around 70-80%. It did not do well. Never grew pitchers, leaves turning brown at the edges. So for year it did nothing. This summer, I placed it outdoors here in texas. They were in my patio, shaded, would get direct sunlight for 3-4 hours. Temp max at 110f and humidity as low as 30%. I surprised they had more growth in a month. They are still outdoors, temps max is 80F but low of 60s. In a week I will move them inside. I have a video of the summer growth. And I will do an update before i move them in.

In my experiences, it would depend on the plant. Some takes a while to acclimatize, others just do really well at all. Others like my dennisii never had issues at all. My advise is, research on the bulbo your getting. Search more info, especially from forums, first hand experience of actual growers helped me a lot. Most of my species orchids are in a grow tent. The hybrids are by a windowsill.

For sure. I removed those metal hooks and used the plastic Christmas gutter hooks for all my tank set ups.

Philippines remind me of my favorite fern, Platycerium Grande, and Philippine version or cultivar of Coronarium unique to Philippine Luzon and Visaya called 'Platycerium Coronarium Philippines, differetn from regular Coronarium of Malaysia/Peninsular-Borneo, Indonesia Sumtra, Riau archipelago, Borneo, Java.Thailand, South Myammar and Cambodia. @@mokong4427

Went home this June and a lot of wild ferns growing amongst the orchids that I mounted on the trees in our home. I have a more than 10 year old orchid with it. I just collected logs and place them on walls or on trees, and they grow a lot of stuff.
