John 3:16-21 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. Mark 1.15 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Hebrews 11:6 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Jesus
I rember spending so many hours with that game. The fact it contained all the tracks from NFS 3 Hot Persuit, plus new once did blow me out of the socket back then as a kid.
I know I'm way late to this video but I'd be remiss if I didn't add my two cents. I was 17 when this game came out and i got my PS1 copy. High stakes had in my opinion the greatest soundtrack. That down tempo ambient electronica just fit this game so well. The car selection was top notch as well. This game introduced me to the legend that is the McLaren F1. Finially, this game came out in a pivotal time in my life and my memories of this game will always put this title in a class all in it's own. What an amazing race game that is still fun to go back to till this day.
One of my favorite games from my childhood. EA are not the same EA from back then, so getting something remotely close to this has the approximate chance of -1%. While the Black Box era was fun for what it is, ironically feels more dated due to the setting of a same old grey or.. piss yellow city, lacking the breath taking nature driven tacks of the old ones and some regurgitated systems that get recycled in U2, MW and Carbon. with Carbon being... well carbon copy of MW but at night time with few twists. Even NFS Porsche had some pretty awesome and hot tracks and like 3 and 4 was a fine line between arcade and sim, but just enough to distance itself from arcade racers and sims. As they are now abandonware the old NFS games are easy to get and I even run 4 and Porsche on my Steam Deck.
I forgot to mention, that the savedata\db\... folder can be backed up and restored to reset career mode back to a prior state, in case a race was lost, such as a high stakes event where you lose a car. Generally, after each event, players would click on back, then exit, the back up the ...\db\... folder then start the game again for the next event, to create a set of saves (usually zip files) one for each event. Some of the tracks share common parts, such as Hometown + Country Woods, Redrock Ridge + Lost Canyons, ... . After completing 10 career series, an 11th series appeared.
Love this game. the Xbox version ( I think the switch version too) have a mod where you don't play the story line. you can just explore the map and look around. I often get in there just to enjoy the atmosphere and soundtrack. Extremely relaxing to just enjoy the world with no end goal. I feel like is a real place im hiking. Wish more games would do mode like this.
Only two points negative compared nfs III hot pursuit 1 - The AI is more weak compared previous, less challenge cpu 2 - The conditions and tracks is not random knockout mode and tournament mode, in the champion and pro difficult. But High Stakes is a great classic nfs, i love this game
probably my favorite car game of all time. I think the maps were amazing. each environment felt unique and could have its own separate video. stunning scenery.
Track variations included a reverse mode, a mirrored move (left turns become right turns and vice versa), day or night, and weather (rain on some tracks, snow on others). As for money, once the first high stakes (race for pink slip) was unlocked, you could repeat it and sell the car you won to quickly earn money. In addition, since the game handicapped based on players car, and since there was no rubber banding (the AI pretty much run the same lap times depending on car, event, series, ...), you could use a stock car to win a level 3 car. Which car you could win would change every few seconds in a fixed pattern so by starting a race at a particular time, you could effectively chose the color and level of the car you would win. High Stakes was the first Need For Speed with online play. One of the cool online modes was knockout mode, a series of races where the last place player would drive a dump truck, usually backwards, to block the remaining players. With a full 8 player lobby, the last race was 6 dump trucks to block the last two racers.
Hi Gamenoob, I hope you're doing well as you transition away from the other channel to this one! My favorite video game of all time is without a shadow of doubt a game called Outer Wilds (not to be confused with The Outer Worlds). Limbo and Outer Wilds are in some ways very similar, as they both take the approach of "less is more" when referring to game mechanics and the explanation of the plot (or lackthereof). I think you would really really love the game, and it's a game that I personally believe everyone should play at some point in their life. It's a very thought provoking, interesting, mechanically fun and unique game that I adore. Do you think in the future that you would ever be interested in making a video similar to this one for it, if you found it was a game you enjoyed too? That said your editing is absolutely top tier as always and I loved the coverage of limbo regardless. Liked & Subscribed to the new channel, and I hope to see you continue doing what you do.
Thank you my friend. I will check it out since you mentioned it's similar to Limbo. Thank you for the suggestion. :)
Never saw your Age of Noob stuff, but I'm here because of how it ended.
Lose race and rip out memory card
have you played their next game "Inside" yet? I absolutely loved that one as well :)
I have, it's a very good game as well!
I REMEMBER DOING THE MEMORY CARD SWITCH THING TO DO MONEY GLITCH ON HIGHSTAKES ...THIS WAS THE GAME THAT MADE ME LOVE NFS GAMES!
I have the same complaint with SA2: I wish there was more of it
NFS 3 was revolutionary and this was a step back
Can we get an install guide on how to make the game look like it does in your video? I run the game data using VEG's modern patch but it looks completely lifeless compared to the clips in this video. Thank you!
RUclips, you can find a lot of guides about that.
what most people dont know, it was possible to mod the pc version of nfs4. I remember downloading a monster truck and create total chaos on the streets or drive a 360 modena. I wouldnt be suprised if the game still gets modded with modern cars today.
I miss all these classics, would love to play them on my pc some how
great video mate! loved every second
Cheers! :)
Dude, the bodykit upgrade systems in NFS HS is still based. Reminds me somehow of 1990s highway street racing. Almost wanting to mention this legendary game in my Night Runners playthrough.
But the kits are based on real parts, a fully upgraded 993 Turbo looks like a RUF CTR2 in the PC version and the 993 GT2 in the PS1 version
Duuude... I can hardly wait for a review from your side about GRIM FANDANGO ! If for Limbo you had this much to say I can only imagine what's there to be said with Grim. OMG Absolutely fabulous and very comprehensive review ! Thank you !
I've assembled a couple of Windows 98 rigs this year alone. Neither one escaped the ritual of having the first installed games being NFS 4 and Carmageddon Carpocalypse. An absolute gem this High Stakes was, and my personal favourite ! Regarding the "high stakes" meaning, you could add an "advice bubble" in the described video section where you could tell people that this game keeps its saves in the gamefolder and you could simply make a backup of those saves before any pink slip race, so the younger generation who wants to try it wouldn't get frustrated after losing a hard earned car after a silly mistake. Cheers mate ! A very beautiful video indeed, with very nice words !
My 1st NFS <3
This was my favorite NFS game
I know this game has a VR version but heard it doesn't work that well. With the updated version would this work with UEVR injector ?
the PS2 version of HP2 has been one of my favorite games since childhood, and this game really does read like a predecessor (given it's described as being like a sequel to HP1, yeah, that tracks huh) so it's definitely something i should check out! Also, I really appreciate the decision-making and semi-experimentalism of early-console-gen game development, and i super appreciate the attention given to that aspect in this video!
NFS 3 was revolutionary
NFS Porsche is the GOAT for me 100%
NFS 4 is the best NFS game.
4 me the best way to play this game is Duckstation PS1 emulator and reshade its like a time machine takes me when i was teenager and play it on my CRT Tv and PS1
So... you're telling me this game from 1999 had a more entertaining damage system than most racing games since then
any time have money soft lock when i tried play this game on ps1 😂
Good video! But how come you did not speak about the sound track?
Hi please give link or tutorial to play nfs 4 "remastered" like on your video Thanks
That is not remastered, its the game running on 3DFX mode.
@@Andre_VOShow set the game to run on 3dfx?

I have a window XP computer that I use for personal use. It's not used for any online activity. I have a bunch of older games that I use it for. Need for Speed High Stakes is just one of them.
they had a skyline in 3? did they have a skyline in 4 as well?
No, NFS High Stakes was the first NFS game to feature the R34 Skyline.
the tifosi will find you and do bad things to you if they ever see the state of that f50 lmao
Fair warning. 90% of this video doesn't apply at all on the PS1 version and maybe not even the PC version since the copy in the video might've been modded. It's still a fun 90's racer and most of the reason I want a 993 Porsche 911 Turbo, a Ferrari 550 Maranello (considering Ferrari's policies, only one they'd ever sell me anyway), a BMW Z3, and to drive a Mclaren F1. The F1 especially was a car that always looked way more exotic since I to this day don't own a PS1 memory card. So I never got a chance to legitimately unlock it.
Thanks for a review friend 😊❤Need for speed 3 & nfshs will always be my favorite racing games i played them way back in 99. 2000. My fav.are corvette, lamborghinni diablo, camaro&porsche the soundtrack the atmosphere great 😍🤩💖🚓🚗🚙🚔🚦🚦🚦
Great video Due to nostalgia, i prefer the ps one version best.
My first exposure to "arcade" racing games with real cars. I will never ever forget High Stakes. Its soundtrack was and still is pretty underrated too.
Just installed NFS4 again this month. For YEARS I couldn't run it on more modern windowses. Finally I took the task with full ambition and... found some solutions to run it, so now it looks like perfectly the same as back in the day but... in full HD :D I think I spent thousands of hours driving in NFS4. Simple and brilliant modability extended this game's life for long years. And I have to say, 25 years after its premier it's still such a fun to drive. It's an arcade game at heart but no so dumbed down, you've got feeling of driving real cars on real roads. Cockpit view, cars selection, tracks with day/night good/bad weather... If you take different cars in the same class you will see the differences - like author said F50 drives different to Diablo to 911 Turbo and to 550 Maranello. Hey, even option of manual/auto box have an impact on how many gears you've got - Corvette or DB7 has only 4 gears in auto (like in real world) but 5 if you choose manual (again similarly to real world). Engine sounds are also different in each car and you can hear echo of Ferrari's V12 in them or Porsche's flat-6 in 911. And actually you've got representatives of each major and imporatant sports cars makers of the time - maybe except for Lotus. And most importantly it looks like there are you and your car. No stupid flashy nitro on F50 or sending shockwaves etc. destroying feeling that you are driving your real F50 on the real road.
This game was and always will be incredibly special to me, especially the PC version. Always thought the damage system in the game was cool, but I didn't realize it was one of the first games to use it.
i like listening to the music in this game for comedy purposes and bc its good
Great review for a great game, thanks! :)
Cheers :)
I like 8 Lap Races. Its good that career doesnt hesitate to use them
this video games still be the best need for speed game until today,
I have OpenRA and Need for Speed High Stakes to think for getting me back into making videos again. High Stakes will always be my goto Need for Speed that I always go back too simply because there is something later games don't have like vehicle damage and the ability to knock Opponents and Cops of the Road and watch them go flying and spinning and having an awesome trance, techno, dance soundtrack that inspired that is surprisingly fitting for a genre that's soundtrack that mainly use Rock or Hip-Hop and last but no least the Car models look good. I highly recommend High Stakes to anyone.
After Underground 1, Need For Speed lost its identity and was no longer an interesting series. Gone were the days of racing exotic cars on equally exotic tracks and having great voiceover work for track and car descriptions or archived video footage showcasing the different vehicles. The PS1 NFS games were legendary for those things and High Stakes may have been the best of them. Gran Turismo, Test Drive, and Ridge Racer offered some nice competitive alternatives but it was NFS that made me love cars and racing games.
