Professor lady to GRRM: Why didn't you stop the TV producers from hiring Moroccan extras when filming in Morocco so I didn't have to get tr!gger!ng "wh!te s@vior" vibes from that "Mhysa" scene?? (Never mind that in context Dany ends up being anything but a white savior and struggles to make long-term improvements in any of the places she conquers in Slaver's Bay)

a lot of people down here in the comments who don't seem to understand or appreciate how big, important public events go down at places of higher learning -- the fact that woman SPEAKS for quite a while before introducing anybody is just something these people do. and some people do it more successfully than others, clearly. it's a big deal, these events - they're often fundraisers of some sort, and all their peers are there, so they write long, wandering intros for the big deal guests on the big deal stage waiting to start talking for all the big deal people out there in the audience. I guess in academic, scientific or literary circles it's its own art form. talking someone on; introducing the guests and the night's itinerary. and again, some people do it very very well and others I guess not so much, hence all the negative comments about her. oh well. next time.

So irritating the critics, thats the left for ya, always viewing everything thru the lens of a constant power struggle between race or gender or watever. FYI to the moronic critics, half of white America freed the slaves, Lincoln and the Republican Party. It was the Democrats that owned slaves, and fought for keeping slavery right up until FDR's last term as president. Instead of seeing George made Daenerys a strong willed, independent WOMAN with strong morals, leadership skills, and determination despite the hurdles in her way, instead you saw a white hero saving minorities as some sort of racially disingenious idea that was politically motivated? What the hell has happend to America these last 10 years to watch G.O.T and come up with that? All the left do is if there is not 100% equality on every level in every situation then it must be discrimination. What a low level, ignorant, and abhorrent way to think.

To be fair to George R. R. Martin on the "sexposition" critque, the sex acting in the background did serve a worldbuilding purpose in the story. 1. Sex in King's Landing is a tool. The women are learning to put on a performance for money. 2. Petyr Baelish is completely unphased by what they are doing. It shows us just how cold and calculated he is, separated from the carnal desires that drive most of the men in that time period. I think George was being too polite in conceding that this was merely "sexposition," and was just written in so the dummies in front of the TV wouldn't change the channel before another ad break.

I get why they tried to do the question format by asking two questions at once, but it honestly made everything longer and we probably missed out a bunch of questions because of it. I mean they double back every time when they forget the other question, so might as well ask them one at a time lol

I’m not denigrating academic/cultural criticism but you would think the interviewers would know by now that most fiction writers tend to feel kind of irritated by that line of questioning because it tries to reduce human story to argument. Despite Brecht, As a rule, drama and fiction that is first concerned with making a political/culture argument tends to kind of suck.
