The Buddhist view is the Middle Way view which states that phenomena do appear to us but they lack independent and eternal qualities or properties. All phenomena arise momentarily and continuously completely dependent on other causes and conditions that are also not inherently and truly existing either. Nothing remains the same and unchanged, not even for a fraction of a moment. The Buddhist view is therefor; - all phenomena can neither be said to be truly existent nor can they not exist at all, since they do appear to us but lack the nature of remaining unchanged for even the shortest amount of time. Phenomena arise in a never ending flow of apparent experiences in our mind. There’s no way of knowing if anything exists outside the mind, since the awareness of mind is the only instrument we have to verify the existence of a phenomena. As long as we are sentient beings, that situation is not going change. That is the Middle Way of Buddhism.

I was never able to clearly identify Ahriman and Lucifer in LOTR. Aragorn is obviously a Christ figure. Saruman sounds a lot like Ahriman and he is all about "industrialization". But that would make Sauron Lucifer, which doesn’t feel quite right. Another angle is that Sauron is Sorat. In that case Saruman could be ahriman, but who would be Lucifer? Gandalf?
