Flying FPV
New FPV setup on the Ranger 1600. The kids loved watching through the goggles while I flew. Lake Washington is visible around the park, but too hazy to see Mt. Rainier today unfortunately.
Setup:
- Volantex Ranger 1600
- 3S 3000mAh battery (Turnigy)
- FlySky FS-i6 radio (modded to 10ch) with FS-iA6B receiver
- Omnibus F4 Pro Flight Controller Running iNav 1.9
- Runcam Sparrow w/ Eachine TX5258 VTX (at 25 mW)
- Eachine EV800D goggles on a tripod
- Mobius camera with C lens
Music: Morning Mandolin (Chris Haugen)

Diagnosing and fixing issues with control linkages and a poor weight distribution on the FliteTest Storch. Also, perhaps some pilot error. :)
Evening Flight At Magnuson Park

Getting some more practice with my scratch-built EA Photon motorglider on a beautiful evening in Seattle at sunset. I started flying a little over a month ago. Still working on my aileron roll. Tried my first loop! Broken elevator linkage caused the crash at the end. Motor mount popped off easy fix. Flying With Kids

Morning Flight (Longer)

Took my kids out for an early morning flight at Magnuson Park in Seattle with a scratch-built motor glider based on the Experimental Airlines Photon (ruclips.net/video/ZfqGrzCKauw/видео.html). Trying out some different onboard camera positions (Mobius). Canada geese, Mount Rainier, and Lake Washington in the background. My Photon has a few changes from the EA design: - Slower motor (1000kv) wit...
Early Morning Flight

An early morning flight of a scratch-built motor glider (Experimental Airlines Photon design) with my kids. Video: Mobius Camera Location: Magnuson Park in Seattle Build this plane yourself with $5 of foam board from Dollar Tree: ruclips.net/video/ZfqGrzCKauw/видео.html
The reason you couldn’t take it off from the grass was because you should have used the rudder
I use plastic linkages on all my models. Just glue them in. Foam compresses and makes all those links loose. Also use one tiny drop of blue locktite on linkage stops.
you should build my foaMWARI ... no broken props
Hey if you are still online. may i know what motor have you used? is it 2212? And the prop size?
Keep in mind that RC planes + kids in close proximity as not a good combo.
have the wing done in black paper foam, fuselage cut out and ready to start assembly, defiantly going with full controls and leading edge slats, have finished the Bushwacker cut from plans ready for maiden,
I never had one problem with the Storch. It's hard to mess up honestly.
Kinda like what I'm going through with my FT Simple Cub. I really believe that FT should have an option to get there kits with a motor having a 3mm shaft and prop saver collet with "O" rings..
i think im in this video
nvm im not
Thanks, Mike! I've built an FT Explorer and a Simple Scout. I'd like to build an FT Storch for the slow flying. I appreciate your tips
How much did this plane weigh? I'm trying to fly my own, but it's having trouble lifting.
why did you not check the CG before start? (2 inches / 5 cm from leading edge of the wing) I checked it a couple of times and the storch flyes soooo damn good!
CG? Looks tail heavy. Also, if launching from hand use your left to throw so you can have your right on the ailerons
Yeah, CG way off somehow. And yes good idea re throwing leftie -- I've started doing this in the last couple years, and it's super helpful if your plane is twitchy or has trim issues (or both!)
Pulling to the left, that's was a rudder is for.
Have you consider add a slat to the wing, to check if this solve the problem?
Thanks for that. I'm trying to get a FT Storch going myself. Haven't Maidened yet, but this was valuable!!
Curious to hear how it goes!
I'll be happy to let you know.... If you're part of the FliteTest Forums, my Build Thread will be there! 😎😉 Carmine 💥 ⛽
They seems to be tail heavy....
Are those the HQ props from flitetest? They do seem to break pretty easy sometimes.
