How I Reclaimed My Drive and Nailed the Rolling Ollie
This video is all about overcoming a lack of motivation and achieving something I've been working on for a while: the Rolling Ollie. 🛹
There were times when I felt like giving up, but I pushed through the doubts and laziness. In this video, I'll take you through my journey-starting from the moments when I struggled to even get on the board, to the small victories that kept me going, and finally to the sweet success of landing that Rolling Ollie. Remember, it's not about how many times you fall, but how many times you get back up.

It's nice to stay on the board. ;)
Did you notice something different?
need to stop turning and jump higher.
Try not to push down so much on front foot letting it flow more naturally, but dang, man, you've come so far from the first videos! Love seeing the progress, truly makes my day, and gets me going to skate!
Stoked to hear it, man!
that board looks to small its length looks under 30 inches, proberbly 28 or under. get a full sized board at least 31.5 and a width 8 or over. id recommend at least 8.25 ❤
This board is worn! Totally going for a 8.25 or 8.50 for the next one
@@pololsen sweet! I think you will like it. also great progression keep it up 😊 👍
You need to jump off your back foot when it hits the ground. Practice hitting the tail and jumping and tucking. Your front foot is a bit early, wait a second before you start trying to slide. Basically break the move down into slow parts and do it without a board if you’re struggling
Been doing the hippe jump warm up from SkateIQ. :)
Nobody admits it but shooting stars is a bomb song
Better then me and we prolly the same age
34 and counting.
@@pololsen def close I'm 39
Don’t worry about your arms to much right now but try doing em one rolling, learning tricks stationary is going to hurt your progression later on trust me, u don’t have to go fast just a little roll
Will practice them rolling some more.
Get in Danny Dyer
I kinda see the comparison. ;)
Just a bit :) keep it up dude 🙌
don't do the arm thing
Got it.
man a tip: dont rush to land
this
Will float
If you look closely, you can see that your left arm goes back in mid air and your right arm not. That’s what gives you the fs spin. Try to not move your arms so much. They should not go behind your back. Try to keep them in a line with the tail and nose of your board.
I'll focus on this.
Good tries! It’s there! Try to only move your legs and feet, don’t move your hip or shoulders to avoid the fs turn. Good luck brother
Thank you brother.
The ollie was so good for a big man good job
Thx :)
Try it while you rolling. If you try ollie up on a curb or ollie over something it's easier.
this will also keep your board straight. its more likely that u turn while doing a olli when standing instead of rolling
I saw some succes with this tip
Makes sense
Dude get a bigger board! Looks small for your shoe size. Im size 10.5 us and i ride 8.25 8.5 sometimes
Also let your front foot float up a bit more, youre pullin your back foot up a bit too fast thats why it comes off the board and rotates you. Keep shoulders square! Get after it 🤙🤙
I'll get right to it when I'm able. Thinking about a 8.5. ;)
Ahhh, clearly you’re just wearing the wrong underwear. Should be wearing a jockstrap when doing athlete shit. Just saying. Not bad though. Just keep practicing and get comfortable on the board. The more comfortable you are riding the easier it is to land.
Hey man!! Looking good so far, just loosen yourself up a bit, like bruce lee said become water, flow with it! Love your progress and videos, thank you!
Be water my friend!
Make sure you're not rotating your shoulders when you jump up, will rotate the board underneath you if you rotate them which isn't what you want with an ollie
Hi
Hello there.
0:29 was good, but pull the front leg up even more and level your torso out when crouching.
Keeping it in mind.
drop the coffee. take a cold shower instead. technically you are doing it, but its a baby ollie/rocket. you cant be afraid of falling. i know it hurts 10 times worse at this age. when you go for the crouch to jump, try more of a squat posture. you'll get a better jump. you're leaning too far forward for the jump and suspending your legs from getting any air. also try tightening your trucks a little bit for balance. 6:21 was decent for beginner.
Great tips! Thanks! I actually did take a cold shower afterwards. Cold showers are the best.
Did I get it?
You don't need to stand so narrow with your feet. That will just make it harder to balance.
True, just trying some different things. :)
you're popping too soon. pop a few ms later. you're not getting the full jump potential. raise your back foot up more after the pop and stop turning your front knee behind you. slam really hard on that tail.
Thanks, will try.
New and improved rolling Ollie video coming soon!
Tony Hawk - How to do an ollie
Thx 4 the comment. 😁
Nice one man. You can see the progress. 🎉🎉
Thanks man. 😊
Dude!!! Keep at it man since start to know you've got it man! I love that I can literally see your delay in the front foot slide! Crazy improvements and good centering when landing as well!
Thanks! Your suggestion about my hip placement was a game changer!
Improvement?
Great footing and good form for the start, push your hips a little more towards the nose, you'll keep it more under you. If you feel like your still sliding out, try pulling back a little in your pop when stationary. You got it man!
It is amazing how much improvment this comment gave me. Thanks dude!
Absolutely mental for learning to skate at your age but fuck its awesome to see 😅👍
Thanks! We all have to be a little mental sometimes ;)
Pro tip no one even tells you... start of the board with things like squats, calf raises and single leg dips. You can't ollie if you can't jump 😁
The board will be my gym!
@@pololsen I BELIEVE! 😁👍
Lmao just get a scooter
But I like the board better!
@@pololsen NICE KEEP AT IT!!!
yooo im also skating around 3 weeks rn. good progress, keep it up man🔥🔥
Nice!!
Brilliant progress! Definitely lift your back knee more, I feel trying to tuck your knees helps me with getting height and also helps teach you to lift your front foot higher too to help with that! Also I would say invest in a bigger board, you seem quite tall and your feet seem to hang off a lot so you’ll ideally wanna be running an 8.5, that’ll also help you get balance and aim your feet back on the board easier!
Awesome! Thank you! Yeah my next board will be 8,5'
looking good 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Love this! Fs kickturn is a legitimately hard thing for most people.
Sure is for me!
the board can only rise as high as you let it, try and jump a little more and raise your right knee - giving it time to get higher in the air before you land back on it - don’t worry too much about dragging your foot, that will come over time - if you let the board meet your foot higher up, it will balance itself out, and then you just catch with both feet and land on the bolts. hope that helps, good luck
Absolutely, thx :)
Slow that front foot down, let your board pop before you slide your foot and lean slightly forward to keep the board under you, it should feel like your always center of your feet
Makes sense. :)
Im not sure if im seeing it right but it looks as if your kind of pigeon toed. Keep your back foot straight and a slight angle on the front foot
Practice getting your ankle to roll more to the side, this will help you get the right flick your wanting for your pop. I work my ankle when watching tv and just bending and holding in certain flick positions over and over, as well keep your front foot closer to the back set of bolts on you front truck rather than middle of the board and work out your feel from that. And yes, knees up always, i like to think of it as the asian smoke break squat 😅 you got good form man keep it up
Once you've mastered the start of popping and getting it as a natural feel, then start delaying your front foot slightly from the back foots pop this will allow you to pop crazy high after mastering
Can you give me advice on my Ollies- my latest short has me doing a few
Thanks for all the great advice! Will certainly work my ankle when watching tv. :D
Awesome Dude! Little Tip: Put you're right foot more in the Back and Not in the middle. Than Just kick the Board and let the right foot Just light Go to the top 😊. Right foot almost by your left foot. Hope that helps. Greetings From Germany
Cool idea
Board looks a little bit too small for you, have to tried other sizes? Finding the perfect size can bring a higher and more clean dap like pop to your riding. Your ankles are not far from touching when you bring your slide foot below the bolts sometimes more space to play with can be beneficial.
Yeah, It's a 8', next board will probably be a 8,5'.
Get your right knee up and out of the way as much as possible.
Alright. :)
Good man. I have the same mission. Ollie every day
I love it!
Is this the worst video yet? I mean come on. Phone format, fixed angle and only failures. Let me know what you think.
You Ollie’d every time bro love to see it!!! You need to do it whilst moving otherwise it won’t help your progression
True words, this is my next focus.
