I have an old leather jacket that smells musty inside + out. Spraying a diluted vinegar solution + hanging it outside is not working. Any other suggestions? My liner is not silk so I could probably use a soup solution.

thank you so much! this was super helpful! i ended up getting this real leather tank top/corset thing at a goth clothes swap and it STINKKKKSSSSS. and even tho i am a huge fan of leather and i have to much leather in my wardrobe, that piece is just so different from all my others (it has lining and then elastic connecting the main leather part of the top to the zipper, the zipper is sitting on a piece of leather too. hopefully that made sense lol 😭😭) but im definitely gonna have to try this and see if it helps!!

I don’t know about getting smells out of leather jackets. But I do know how to get the smell out of tennis shoes, this may work for leather or anything… put your smelly tennis shoes in a plastic bag, preferably one that you can seal with the zipper, and place them in the freezer.. Freezing kills the bacteria, and the odor caused by the bacteria

I had a Vanson USA made leather motorcycle jacket. Made in New England I think Boston. I bought this jacket about 15 years ago and at that time this jacket was almost $700. The jacket came with one instruction on conditioning products to be used only. this is the way they said it, only use.-Lemon pledge on this jacket.. since then, that is the only product I use on my many leather motorcycle jackets.. in case you don’t know, lemon pledge is a product made for spraying on wood furniture for dusting and cleaning off fingerprints and things like that. Back in the 70s, I used to use lemon pledge on my 67 GTO convertible between washings when it would just get a little dusty. I used it on the paint… I also used it on my expensive guitars, since it is made for fine wood furniture.. it makes sense to use some thing with lemon in it on leather because, I had a leather motorcycle jacket that I was not wearing for a few years hanging in my garage. When I was cleaning out my garage to organize things, I discovered that that jacket was pretty covered with white mildew… if you’ve ever tried to clean mildew off of leather, it’s almost impossible.. so I went on RUclips and looked up how to remove mildew from leather .. A video on there said to use 90% warm water and 10% lemon juice.. I got a small sponge, dipped it into that mixture of lemon juice and warm water, squeezed it out, and when I touched that jacket with that sponge, that mildew disappeared instantly. I was able to wipe that whole jacket down and completely remove all the mildew in less than five minutes. That was a tough job because it was in everywhere, inside the cuffs, inside the over lap of the leather over the main zipper… That lemon juice/water combination, completely destroyed and removed all that mildew with just one wipe. So it makes sense to me that Vanston leathers would recommend only using lemon pledge on their leather jackets.
