Its a lot, not a house

The dolphins they have at the aquarium are non-releasable animals. They are animals with a very low likelihood of survival in the wild. Many dolphins are injured by boats because too many people feed them in the wild that they become dependent. That's why it's a crime to interact with dolphins in the wild. It makes them dependent on humans. When one of those now dependent dolphins is injured by a boat prop, they come to facilities like the aquarium where they are healed, but can't be sent back to the wild. It's not safe or them. And they don't "do tricks for food". Those "tricks" are exercise for the dolphin. It keeps them healthy. It's for their own physical and mental well being. Whether they did them for people, or in private, they still have to exercise. By doing the exercise in front of the audience, they sell tickets which in turn pays for the care of the animals. The same goes for the turtles. Federal law specifically prohibits keeping endangered animals that are healthy enough to survive in the wild. The aquarium (per their own website) brings in hundreds of injured sea turtles every year. The healed and healthy ones are returned to the wild (I've seen them releasing turtles with my own eyes) those who are too injured to survive either stay at the aquarium or go to another long term care facility.....where they can live and mate in a protected environment.

He was found dead on the floor of his tank at the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi. Trainers said that D.J, was acting unusual and not eating the day before he died. He is the second dolphin to die at the aquarium-Cobie, also just 15, died of pneumonia in 2007. In the wild, dolphins swim up to 100 miles per day in family pods or tribes of hundreds. Untimely deaths are the rule for marine mammals in captivity. At SeaWorld alone, between 1986 and 2011, 25 orcas died-and not one from old age. The unending and debilitating stress of captivity weakens marine mammals’ immune systems, causing them to die earlier than their wild counterparts, who live for decades. Those who don’t succumb to intestinal gangrene, acute hemorrhagic pneumonia, pulmonary abscesses, chronic kidney disease, chronic cardiovascular failure, septicemia, influenza, or other health problems may take their own lives by hitting their heads against the sides of pools or simply not coming up for air. So the Texas Aquarium releases a few turtles back into the ocean...big deal. What about the sharks and dolphins that are being kept in a swimming pool solely for profit. Think about it, this is a business and are exploiting marine mammals for profit.

@@futureccc 2 dolphins die of a disease in over 30 years and that means they are torturing the animals? Dj and Cobie were, as my very first sentence said, unreleasable. Born in captivity in another facility and dependent on humans since day one. The Aquarium doesn't breed dolphins. They don't go out in the wild and catch dolphins. They care for animals that wouldn't survive on their own. They also aren't Gods. They can't prevent diseases. Those things still happen. You are using only half the equation to try and force your own narrow minded view. Here's the other half: How many dolphins have aquarium staff rescued, treated, healed and released? How many times have the lives of the dolphins they currently have in the exhibit been treated and saved from a disease that would have killed them in the wild? Those are the stories you don't hear about. The media loves tragedy and rarely care about success stories. Just like the turtles, the Aquarium has put more recovered sharks and dolphins BACK into the wild after acute medical care than they have lost in the last 30 years. Exponentially more. But you go on refusing to listen to reason. I've got no horse in this race.
