The cola increase automatically causes rent increase so if you get a rent increase will you automatically get a snap increase if you're not reporting yearly. Program needs to also assist seniors who don't qualify for scree program especially those who reside in public housing which requires 30% of income leaving seniors broke the rest of the month. Was 15% before president Regan-he increased it to 30% of income. If income is only from ssi or social security then 30% which is actually more when bills are paid, should be reduced. As it stands now a cola increase= rent increase. By the way when cola is applied you're now in a higher income bracket which can disqualify you for medicaid/snap-its a shell game- its given but taken away, right away. And everything else increases😢 😢

Best get in touch with your counterparts in the Nation;s Capital where they cut seniors off from their needed food stamps without notice, without justification, randomly not by the required 24-month recertification schedule for seniors who are retired with no socalled earned income. They do not have ESAP strictly speaking but rather they do have a 24-month two-year recert period but instead of abiding by that, and instead of doing the required "timely and adequate notice" Recipients discover at the checkout line that their food stamps have been cut off. Having to go through the burdensome application process again and again, even with help from a senior-serving organization esp for those with disabilities whether the disabilities are to the federal standard or not, is just a disincentive to people staying on the program. To heck with it, even if it is needed, they say. ESAP is a great idea but DCDepartment of Human Services would probably find a way to screw that up too.
