Harmonic Snack 27 - Giant Steps Chord Melody
If you'll recall, in the previous Harmonic Snack, I demonstrated how we can (and should) navigate Giant Steps using just 3rds and 7ths of the chords. I also played a chord melody type head for the song. I realized after the fact that I didn't quite play it exactly the same a s the original song so in this lesson, I'll be demonstrating the correct way to play it. Harmonic Snack 25 - The Magic of 3rds And 7ths part 2 (Rhythm Changes)

In HS24, we outlined chords by simply playing 3rds and 7ths and we tested ourselves by playing both chords and a solo in a Jazz Blues. In part 2, we'll be doing the same thing over "Rhythm Changes." Rhythm Changes are somewhat challenging to solo over and simply playing 3rds and 7ths (and 7ths and 3rds) really helps us learn how to target the most important chord tones. Fantastic ♥ Remembers me of an old Scott Henderson Video Tape from 1990. I think it was the Melodic Phrasing Video. Greetings from Austria.

Hey Chris. I have been transcribing all of these chromatic videos? So I am wondering of you think it is worth me joining your Patreon. I mean. Is there a lot of other stuff having to do with these chromatic videos?
@@ignobooboo well, the PDFs contain other information as well. Honestly, you could join up, get everything and then cancel after a month. I wouldn’t hold it against. The other stuff might be of interest. Many of the LOTD lessons are based on Barry’ CS too
Well I think you just sold on your Patreon. Hey, that that even rhymed!

all pre recorded!
There’s is literally no way I could play all that to a pre recorded track. I’m recording it into my daw as I play it and edit out the audio of the guitar from my iPhone video. Regardless, I’m playing everything live. The guitar is going into my interface and is recorded simultaneously while I’m talking.

Hey Criss, I really love your stuff but all the tab you put up on there for a moment or two I try to throw it on the TV so I can see it but the tab it’s all blurry. I can’t make out what you’re doing. I can figure it out over long period of time, but it’s difficult.
@@richardfallows1259 hmm ok, I wonder how to fix that. Maybe the short term solution is to sign up for Patreon for just a month and download everything. Everything is transcribed there. After a couple weeks you could quit so basically you’d get 300 pages worth of PDFs for $5.00. In the meantime, I’ll see if I can get better resolution for the graphics somehow

@@alexandermager3814 that’s amazing! You’re going to be the first harp player to play the Lydian Dominant scale with the chromatic passing tones. I can’t wait to see your vid!
Mr Chris The method of using an EP Booster to excite the tone of a tube amplifier typically involves connecting it to the effects loop. In the effects loop, devices like the EP Booster can be used to drive the tone of a tube amplifier by connecting it between the amplifier's send and return jacks. This allows you to process the signal between the preamp and power amp stages.

Great lesson again!!!
Thanks! It's a lot of work but it has a great payoff if you do it.
Pleasure to do
Wow, what an eye-opener! Ear-opener I should say
pretty great
I really like what you're playing, Chris. And thank you for sharing your analysis. After playing guitar for so many years (all my life!) and playing so many different styles, I've adopted a very non-theoretical approach to soloing, staying away from scales. I guess I call it intuitive, which can sound awfully pretentious. Whatever you're doing, however you're crunching it----I like it! Very much.
@@scottmateodavies6591 soloing should be intuitive. I think experience allows you to play that way. Learn something, forget it and hope that it comes back.
Rory Gallagher was a famous user of the Range Master. I have a pedal that is called JDM Tonemaster - it's a Tonebender and a Range Master in one Pedal.
Hey man, I bought BB preamp years ago on your recommendation. Do you still use it? And if not, what have you replaced it with?
BB plus in fact!
@@alguitarchristie That's great! I still use mine for everything. I like the Ge Spot germanium fuzz too for the retro sound but the BB makes anything sound good.

Killer! Great playing as always. I'm obsessed with Ge fuzzes right now. Which is your favorite?
@@paulstebner6492 I’d say I like both the ones in the video a lot. That being said, you can’t get the analog man one with the NKT 275 transistor anymore directly from the manufacturer (I would assume there aren’t any NKT 275s around anymore). You can find them online but they’re thousands of dollars. The green BMF one in the video is reasonably priced so I would definitely suggest that one. To me it sounds as good as the Sun Face.

Well I rather liked that opening tune...sounded like something Santana might have done in the early/mid 70's.
thanks. I'm thinking about making a video on how I'll take this song and get some musicians to record on it.
#killer lesson, def gonna start in on some of these, those chords are lush :)
Let me know if there are any other chords you'd like me to talk about!
@@chrisjuergensen I always wanted you to talk about substitution and superimposition. Such as when you would use a 7b9 chord, say for diminished at the 7th degree of a diatonic major scale etc...or when you can sneak it in there for added colour and tension say at the 2nd degree by swapping the dorian chord (m7/m6)for this more advanced sound...something like that would be very interesting to me, and other such complex chords that can be used over other scale degrees :)
@@JesseLacharite I have a composition lesson coming that deals with that pretty much. Stay tuned..
