Steve Wariner: Studio pedalboard build
Custom board built for Steve Wariner, Certified Guitar Player. Steve doesn't need any of this stuff, but we're glad he let us build this for him anyway.

@andywoodmusic playing new W/D/W EVH inspired guitar rig
Awsome boards , do you mind me asking are they plywood construction and what's the top is it laminated
Do you guys have any tips on CCs for having the RJM control the Kemper? Or even any help with PC changes and I can just program the Kemper separately. I’m really new to midi programming and rely on RJMs midi dictionary for almost everything and the player profiler doesn’t have anything (to my knowledge) configured in the midi dictionary. Any help is much appreciated!!
How is the latency with this rig, running through the player with effects and the TC H units?
Dion Shores
The dude who doesn’t like the paint brush to dust his board probably doesn’t brush his teeth either 😂
Well they make waterpiks. We tried that on a board, did not go well.
Can you please explain how you are powering the m9? There's a mixed bag of info on the internet. I have a Zuma but someone from Strymon actually told me you shouldn't use current/voltage doubler cables so I'm confused.
The slam dunk way is to use a CIOKS Crux. I can't say exactly whey Strymon doesn't approve of paralleling outputs, it may have to do with load balancing, or it may compromise their fault protection schemes. You could double ports to power an M9, it just takes several.
@@xacttone Thank you!!
What cabinet/speakers are you using?
Ifffff I remember correctly, those are EV12Ls in Pacific cabs.
What adhesive do you guys use to attach the flat material to the pedaltrain boards?
Wilson Art water based glue.
Thank you for mentioning Ian Thornley of Big Wreck
Every chance we get.
i hate tap dancing. that's a nightmare.
This is for Gregory Hines.
Everytime I see a DMM on a board I cry because I sold mine.
If it makes you feel any better, everyone who still has one cries sometimes, too. Steve's was broken and we had to fix it.
I've never owned one. Are the older ones better (or considered better) than the new ones available today?
@@castleanthrax1833 the original MN3005 DMM are all imperfect things but that is why they have so much charm. And when they are good. They are so good.
Two thumbs up for the extra neat wiring. Why anyone would need all those pedals if beyond me. One good amp and maybe two or three pedals at most is all you need. Good tone is in the hands.
Remember that you don't need to spend insane amounts of money to get a great sound.
Solid attitude from Eric here. Respecting his bosses craft speaks volumes of his own character. I'm sure Steve knows this and sure appreciates it!
Both Eric and Steve are pure class.
Play through makes all the difference 😊
We do what we can.
Great Episode - Loved the playthrough 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Can you tell us more about that contact cleaner??? Maybe a link to purchase??👍
Dexoit D5 will take care of you.
@@xacttoneIs this stuff appropriate for cleaning up scratchy pots?
You guys should start selling some of those modded ODR minis.
You can buy them at guitareffectspedals.com
Secret agent man
They've given you a number and taken away your name.
We have a common friend! Alynn Love lives in Raleigh, and is a longtime friend. Great player.
That's cool!
Cool tele! 🤩
Eric and Greg put it together!
Now that’s a board !
Thanks!
Those power cables look quite robust compared to what is provided with the power supplies. I'm assuming those are all custom done. What type of cable is used for that? Love your videos! Thanks!
When we have long power cables, we'll use Mogami 2528 to make the runs..
@@xacttone Awesome! Keep up the amazing work!
@@detroitmooseI bought a Fender engine room, and it came with much sturdier cables than others I've bought.
Did Eric say (at 5:51) that the ODR-mini is modded? If so, what is the mod? Thanks!
We mod them. Contours the bass to bring it more in line with the vintage pedals we've listened to.
Hey, mind explaining how the stereo jack to power the MXR phase 90 works? thanks!
You can bring +voltage in on the ring of the plug and short across the battery clip inside the pedal, allowing you to supply power thru the input jack (if TRS equipped).
@@xacttone thank you very much!
@@xacttonegenius!
Great build!
Nerd Gummy Clusters for the win!
Win indeed.
You'd expect Brett to have MOORE!
Yeah I build pedalboards and when I want to, I'm an amazing guitar player!!! AHAHAHAH
A paintbrush doesn’t rotate the knobs?!?! Genius
That is a very generous assessment.
Brigadier vs. Brig?
Haven’t done a side by side. Little guy is good though.
Brigadier for staying out of the way when engaged, sounding less digital and being easier to tweak on the fly. Brig for having clever versatility, easier midi and tidy form factor.
As a brit i love the dry humour. Loving this series of vids on pedalboards guys ... keep it up 👍
Thanks, will do!
Always beautiful! 🙌 Where do you guys get that plate that you put on top? If it’s possible to ask.
We make them here in the shop.
Is there anyway for you to do a video showing the beginning of the building? Basically showing the pedalboard with nothing on it and sort of video document how you prepare the board for mounting the pedals and running the power cables, if I make sense? I really want to see how you mount each pedal and make everything so neat? I’m probably not making sense. I love your videos on these builds as well as your instagram stuff! Thanks for doing these! One more question, what do you do to the eq pedals? I’ve never used an eq pedal before and after listening to all kinds of videos saying it’s the most important pedal on their board, I just bought the Boss one. How does your mod change the pedal? Thank you!
We may do some more like that. We've got some of those up on our Instagram.
I think the mod makes them quieter. The Boss EQ-7 can sometimes be a little noisy.
H90 ❤
It's a good one!
how much do you charge for your eq pedal im looking for a boss eq at this time
They are $220 on our website. We'll have more in stock ASAP.
Sorry for a dumb question but..what are those channel things that the cables are running through called?
Do you mean the adhesive tie mounts?
@@xacttone Yes! I've never seen those before. Makes everything so neat.
You're boards are so perfect.
By the Brig sounding better than the old ones, were y’all talking about the Brigadier or the old MM’s?
We prefer them to the DMMs, mostly for consistency's sake.
#timepoint 5:10💯 *That is the same switch on my FAMC Liquid Foot Controller. I love them!*
Interesting, I thought those were hall effect switches. Haven't seen one in a long time though.
Cool board. Btw, I like when you do a quick play though. Some of these pedals here I’m unfamiliar with and would love to hear them.
Thanks! We're trying to mix the play thru in on a semi-regular basis.
Love the videos. I remember stopping by the shop a couple years ago to try out some pedals. You guys were so welcoming and I’m just a regular dude
We identify as regular dudes, too.
Compact is the best pact. 👍🏽
That's impactful.
WHAT is wrong with having a couple short fold down legs at that edge, to give it support, then fold back up when being carried?
Nothing would be wrong with that. If it needs it we'll do that. Doesn't look like it's needed.
Feet would completely remove any concerns if wobble / structural stress on the over hanged portion. Should come standard with the overhang extension mod IMO.
@@danielconrad764 maybe if feet were available in the correct size.
Metro 20 Upper Decker
I wonder if marketing would clear it.
That's a great size. A Metro XD20. I'd buy one.
I bet it winds up happening...
YES please. I run a Metro for my compact board and I would absolutely love an extension like this. Nice build.
It's a good platform size.
I tried running a (borrowed) HX One from a CIOKS DC7 and had a lot of noise. Have you guys (or anyone else looking on) had that issue. For context It was running with pretty standard stuff at the end of my chain immediately post a Flint, running into the front of the amp.
We've not had any issues with that.
Board looks nice. I like the fact that the pedal choices are not overly bootekee.
I like that, too!
Sorry but it's not Dann HUFF on LOS LOBOTOMYS "Candyman" but Steve LUKATHER
No need to be sorry. I know Luke played on Candyman. Those are just two important records for me. Talking about Dann, so I didn’t mention Luke.
Yet another Buka-board!
Not exactly. Nashville influence is certainly there though!
