Tips and ideas for making your RV feel like home.
How to Mount a Towel Bar in a Camper
The plastic wall anchors used to mount the towel bar in my RV bathroom pulled out of their holes, so I used a wall anchors designed for hollow doors to re-hang the towel bar, making it very sturdy.

I too have an RV and you are 100 percent on that, RV central vacuums don't have an electric power nozzle. Residential central vacuums clean so much better than RV grade. That's not like just my opinion, that's an objective fact! I too have an RV with a central vacuum and I got a kit from a place called MD Central vacuum. Now, I am not sponsored by MD but they are wonderful. Mine is a Lindhaus power nozzle but my adoptive sister (I was adopted) has a central vacuum in her travel trailer and I think her's is a an Ace kit (Centec CT20QD power nozzle that she replaced the headlight bulb in it with an LED replacement bulb. I originally used a Kenmore power nozzle which unfortunately died years ago. But still, an electric power nozzle does a phenomenal job on RV carpets. Tip, replace the valve on your RV central vacuum with a residential model. That will enable you to use the on/off switch on the hose handle. Really convenient for answering the phone, door, or attending to your cats. I did that and I love it. Not to mention that residential valves are so much easier to find for purchase than RV grade models. That's not like just my humble opinion, that's an objective fact!
Good job guys next time think about cheep bags of sand pour them out around bottom of foam every camp ground doesn't have gravel like you 😊
thank you-looks nice!
I'm just gonna use TYVEK😁
Wow! That came out horrible
Harmful to wildlife
I cant believe your putting HVAC foil tape on the side of your rv. That tape sticks like you wouldn believe. Yikes
I think that’s not going to work just my. Honest opinion
I'm sorry if this question has already been asked, but I'm trying to build skirting for a repurposed cargo trailer for my pet turkey's coop. Where we live, it gets WELL below zero and 200 inches of snow. Did you get snow at your location, and do you have any suggestions for dealing with that situation? I'm afraid of tarps because of condensation moving up into the insulated trailer coop, even though it's ventilated. Thanks so much for any ideas, and I appreciate this video very much.
Snow can help insulate by blocking the wind. We share more tips with skirting on our website here that should answer some of your questions: rvinspiration.com/cold-weather-rving/foam-board-rv-skirting/?
You can use a chalk line to keep your cuts straight.
That looks like it’s only 1” thick? How good did it perform and do you stay in cold weather areas
It worked really well! I discuss it in depth on our website with installation details and the pros and cons: rvinspiration.com/rv-life/foam-board-rv-skirting/
Will this tape take any paint off?
It shouldn't, but never say never. Using a heat gun when you remove the tape would help!
painful watch
Alright, I’ve searched high and low, and still cannot find that foam paneling. Does anyone have a link, or a name of what to search for?
how well did the foam board skirting work out for you guys ?
ouch
As a new rv owner and plan on using it over winter this has helped immensely and calmed my anxiety regarding the cost . After watching this video I feel I can start buying materials bit by bit so not such a huge expense all at once . Thank you
Mahalo (ty) for the info. I'm gonna try that inside the back of my kitchen cabinets. Get's hot In there in summer heat 🤙✨️
What do rv folks do with their tires if their parking for winter.. say 4 months. Do you jack them off the ground or do anything
You will definitely put your jacks down but you don’t want your tires off the ground. The jacks will alleviate pressure on the tires themselves. You may also use tire covers to protect from sun damage while sitting. For winter you’ll like skirt anyway so you can cover the wheels with whatever you use as a skirt!
Thanks. I’m moving away from the family for a few months for work and will be hanging out in a camp trailer. So this is all amazing information for me! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with everyone
love some of the ideas But the one that interest me the most is your pot hanger We have been thinking about it my biggest question is do you take all your pots down on travel days??
This RV was stationary, so she just took them down when needed! :)
I just wanna say, great organizing ideas. But also, extra kudos for making sure Professor Theodore is on a leash when he goes outside!❤❤
Very clear. Thanks.
Oh my
Awesome. I'm planning to do this tomorrow as our trailer is very cold tonight. Im worried about the wind. Did you have many problems with wind damaging or dislodging foam pieces?
We did not, but you can use rocks or tent stakes to help keep them anchored. We recommend it, just in case some crazy winds whip through!
Awesome job
May I ask... Do y'all have any problems with rodents? We have so many, where we're at. I'm at a loss as to how to keep them from getting into our RV.
We get the balsam and peppermint satchets that are supposed to be great for repelling mice. (Any farm/tractor store will have them) Light can also help keep them away!
First hard wind and those are blowing accross town.
Surprisingly that never happened with the foam board, though we tried vinyl skirting the wind would kick it up often.
My thought , also . You would think the park would rather have skirting that's less prone to abandonment or storm loss .
I have to use 2 inch foam skirting . I am about 75% done before i found your video. I used my buck 110 to do the cutting . It took a little figuring, but I went flush with rv even inside fenders with the 2 inch . I used 2x4 lumber in the corners to screw to .
sorry if this was asked, i see this post has been up for a bit. How did it do for that winter? what would you change? if anything
It did great! If the RV hadn't sold, would've kept it up year round
Hi🖐, it looks great🙌! As if it were preinstalled.👏 I have some questions, that may have been previously answered and I do apologize if they're redundant. When you've installed the insulation as skirting, <--did you bury the bottom into the ground without any type of protection for the board or just paint it, to prevent deteriation from dirt, moisture and critters/bugs? (I read your blog)😊 I was considering covering each piece in heavy duty construction grade trash bags, <--would that be as protective instead of painting? Also, you mention the silver is to be placed inwards out of the sun rays to keep the heat inside/under the RV. <--Isn't the silver for reflective purposes? I've not heard of using the reflective side in the dark, <--so how did you determine its effectiveness? (besides after😅) I use reflective bubble insulation on my windows to reflect the heat OFF the glass, not to pull the heat inside. <--So would my process be bringing more heat inside my RV? I tinted my RV windows, that made a huge difference. And the bubble insulation is there as well, on half the window- don't like living in a cave.😅😅 I planned on putting the reflective foamboard on the roof of my RV, to help keep heat off me in summer time. I thank you for your video and blog, and hope to hear from you. And please any one with derogatory responses, just keep them to yourselves, we're here to learn and help, not Hate on or demean. Thanks!! ❤❤❤
Well thanks so much for responding. We have a 2022 5 th wheel and live in central Illinois. Last year we had real cold weather and had all kinds of problems. So this year we’re installing 2 inch foam boards all around, pretty much do the same thing you did. I was just Leary of putting tape on the sides of the trailer. What I also did to keep the bottom from kicking out or in , I cut a bunch of farm post to about 6 inches and put them at the bottom of both sides of the foam board. Works great to keep them in place. Thanks again. Happy camping 😊👍
do the taping on the underside of the coach. that way no damage to your paint. also with the foam board under the coach skirting the water stays outside better.
I would like to know what happens when you pull off all the tape. Doesn’t it damage the paint. Or leave all the sticky stuff on from the tape.
Duct tape definitely can, but the HVAC foil tape will be better. To easily remove adhesive, we always use a heat gun (a hair dryer can also work!)
Thanks. 👍
They have 24 inch foam :)
Thank you!! I'm so happy I found this video! This is the best advice. All my pictures and command picture ledge fell off. I'm buying this stuff now using your link!! Thanks again!
Beautiful
Was this a joke?
where in the heck is the closet door makeover. I really didn't want to know about the inside of your closet. I want to see something, anything about Japanese shoji screens.
Will this hold up above a stover? Will the beat make it fall? I tried using a different mounting tape and it fell off because of the beat rising
Yes, the heat will make it fall. In general, it's not safe or recommended to hang anything over a stove or heat source.
@@RVInspiration sorry I just realized I put beat twice 🤦🏼♀️ anyway Thankyou for your response. I think I’m going to have to build one of those over the stove wood shelves that’s like a C shape for my spices.
She doesn't know what she's doing. She just keeps pushing deposit through the hole. And creating a dentist precious with her finger. She didn't even clean it well with spatula
Awesome Storage ideas ❤️❤️❤️ I am trying to live in a fifth wheel so I am loving your ideas for storage
Were u able to remove the tape without damaging the RV? Any glue left on rig afterwards?
With duct tape in the past, it left a ton of glue and damaged the RV in places, but the foil tape leaves a lot less if any residue. It depends on how long you leave it up for (many years = more possible residue)
I’ve already written down several of you ideas and I love your blog! Thank you for the rv tour and for helping me to organize my rv.
Your title to the video says mirrored closet door make over. Where is the mirror door you made over?
Does the tape peel off the paint on your trailer
It didn't in my experience, but some adhesive was left behind which I used GooGone to remove.
How dose this stand up to 40 mph winds
Is there any issues with the foam board from the RV swaying in wind or rocking? Seems like it might get stressed
Also, what was the general cost?
Do you put a light or small ceramic heater under house?
I did not find it necessary to do that in my climate, but some people do.
Does the duck tape leave a sticky residue on your trailer once you take the board down. Thank you
The foil HVAC tape does not leave a sticky residue.
Excellent!
How does that hold up on high winds
The highest winds we experienced with the skirting in place were during a tornado warning and the skirting didn’t budge.
