I'm dumbfounded when these locomotives aren't at the helm of 'the Ghan' rather than the NR rust buckets I've seen :( 3rd world railways! Beautifully painted locomotives should always been at the helm . . . No excuses . . .

Hi Samuel 👋 I am so happy that you have experienced this wonderful journey on the Indian Pacific. I first experienced this when I was 17, and I was in a "Red" class twin, which I shared with my cousin. I last rode the IP in 2019 with 5 journeys between my first and last. I got off during our stop in Cook and walked the length of the train to search for the oldest carriage, which I found with a manufacturer's plate dated 1966. I was told by the train manager that some of the original red twin sleepers were converted into the Gold single sleepers that are still on the train today. I love this journey, and I hope you did as well. I will say that I have never been bored on this journey and that's probably because I love trains. I hope you have more footage of your journey, and I appreciate you sharing this with us. Thanks for the memories, Samuel and for the great video. Well done 👏 👍

ive driven across the nullabor 3 times. always interesting as long as you often stop and look around. i tell people how on the nullabor there is nothing. the only animals i saw were black ants. i took the ip which is further inland and described it as less than nothing. we stopped at cook for refueling so i had a look around. the same variety of ants i saw off the eyre hwy were the only creatures i saw at cook. ive since seen pictures and video of the painted desert in sa. and there is even less there than the nullabor. well named but a really desolate place.

Very disappointing for all the AN’s to be withdrawn, pacnat only have themselves to blame for losing traffic

Thanks for posting. Ive been stuck in Adelaide for 3 years havent been able to get to the desert where I have camped beside railway line around Tarcoola. You can here the trains coming for miles but to me the locomotives dont have much engine rumble these days. They were heapa louder 30 years ago

I must say that I hate longitudinal seating because I like to look out of the windows, and I don't like staring at the person opposite, and when the train is crowded I especially hate having people's butts in my face 🙃. Was the traditional seating on the same train? I much prefer traditional seating. Great video. Well done Samuel 👏 👍

AN11’s last trip south, I got its last run ever on 2AM5

Australia has some interesting trains, I must admit. But something had my attention, what’s the horn regulations at railroad crossings? Here in the US if not a “no horn zone” the train must do a two longs, a short, then another long for railroad crossings.
