There were at least a dozen or so girls in the Ziegfield Follies who died tragic deaths, including Bessie Poole, partner of W.C. Fields, who was beaten to death in a barroom brawl by a man, and Martha Mansfield, who was horribly burned to death on the set of a movie.

I think its pretty accurate. They fought a lot and Scott was bitter towards her and blamed her for his failures and he had affairs. Probably what drove her crazy. I feel like they diagnosed her wrong. She was probably just bi-polar, schizophrenia you hear voices and see visions. idk, Its just such a tragic love story for sure. I'm watching Z for Zelda on Amazon. Its really good!! Has anyone else seen it? I hope there's a 2nd season as well.

If only all YT's short biographical and historical narratives were as accurate, as well written and the visuals as well fitted to the text as this. Uploaders- watch and learn.

I read Lucile Ball’s book based on her memoirs. She was not in the Ziegfeld Follies.

They were far from a perfect couple. He was transferred to Canada first to train both Canadians and Americans where he launched at least one affair with a local woman and planned divorce. In winter the whole training establishment moved to Texas.Training was chaotic. Planes taking off and landing all over the tarmac. Castle crashed his plane to avoid colliding with another.

A tough situation. When Fitzgerald first knew her, she was the belle of the county. And he wasn’t good enough. He was already an insecure personality. Then he won her over, but that seed of never being good enough, seems to have stayed with him. It’s all over his writing. Meanwhile he found out the life of a celebrity writer, hanging out with wealthy people was kind of empty. And then she had mental illness. It all wasn’t the reality he had thought he was achieving.

I watched again the 1939 movie. I remember watching it years ago, such a beautifully made film, wonderful music and dancing. But, oh so sad. They were both very young.

Whoever wrote the title cards got everything backwards. Scott put up with Zelda's bitter and envious sabotage - and insanity - because he was hopelessly in love. Hemingway tried to warn Fitzgerald that Zelda was crazy and trying to destroy him, but Scott wouldn't hear of it.

Irene Castle was a fashion icon in the days leading upto and during the first world war. Gloria Swanson in her memoirs said she was sure that the reason she got her first walk-on at Essanay Studios in 1914 (she was then 15) was because of the home made dress she was wearing. "It was an Irene Castle copy".

Small correction: Vernon Castle was an army officer in the Royal Flying Corps. The Royal Air Force was inaugurated two months after his death.

I heard about them for the first time while reading about F Scott Fitzgerald and Ginevra King's romance. Ginevra mentions Vernon Castle in one of her dreams! haha - in a letter to Scott. And in the footnote of the article it mentions how Vernon and Irene made this "castle walk" dance famous.

This was great! ... I especially loved seeing glamorous pictures of Lucille Ball... I only remember seeing shots of her as a comedian...She was stunning... I liked the photograph of her with short hair! I never knew she was a Ziegfeld Follies girl... Also, the music of "Legend of the King" was excellent for this video... Thank you, J. White!

This was very interesting and very tragic... I had never heard of Zelda until seeing this video... She was such a beautiful and talented woman despite her troubled life... I remember liking the Eagles song "Witchy Woman" ... Never dreaming it was inspired by a real woman. I always love the music you choose for your videos J. White! I've read all four of these books... I can honestly say that while reading, I felt I was actually there with Sam and the Flanagan family! If you like mysteries, and down to earth families you can relate to... I highly recommend these books. Judith White has a real gift for writing.

She had such a troubled life when it came to her marriages. ...I wonder if she really loved any of her husbands ...I also wonder how much of her troubles were caused by "Mumsie?" Judy, this brief look at the life of Pauline Frederick was well done. I loved the piano music that played throughout the whole video.
