In Crowd formed 2016 lead by Angelo and wife Ylsa. Soon they were asked to play an oldies gig. One standout song was La Bamba. "people love dancing to Latin rhythm. I thought we should do more Latin music" Angelo said. He then thought of another great Latino performer, he Loved, Desi Arnaz. "It'd be great if we could play Babalu," Angelo recalled "but I need one of those big conga drums like Desi played." After months of research, he learned his drum was a "Boku", uniquely indigenous to Desi's Hometown Santiago Cuba, finding no one who still makes them. Also finding a deep love for Latin music. "So I brushed off some high school geometry, took up carpentry and built my own Boku" says Angelo. " He vanished into the basement with a pile of lumber and emerged covered in sawdust, holding a drum just like Desi's" says Ylsa. Babalu drum in hand, and a newfound love of Latin music, they decided to add to the repertoire. So they started writing a new style of Latin "boogaloo" music "Newgaloo".
