The first time it was an Empowered Demon. It’s a gameplay mechanic in doom where if a demon killed someone else in their playthrough it’ll come back in another players playthrough as a stronger version of itself. Since it killed you too the first time it spawned back as a normal Demon for your second attempt. Which is why it was much weaker the second time.
