Crazy. Been using this notion for 6 years but have always wanted a pkm that looks like notion.
Hi iam a forex trader and i know alot of traders uses notion because nation have alot of source and templat for journaling i cant make a journal here if you make one and bublish a vedeo then that will be great
Please do a video for habit tracking
Sto iniziando ad apprezzare il modo di organizzare i dati di Capacities, dopo aver lavorato con Notion trovo che Capacities faciliti notevolmente il flusso di "pensiero".
I have to say this is one of the very best instructional videos I have ever watched (not just on Capacities). What is often missing in tutorials is context, why you should do something rather than just how, you explain that here very well, plus you have a very pleasant and calm voice to listen to. Not sure yet if Capacities will be the product for me as I also have a requirement for tables and Kanban boards, but I may consider using 2 apps
I'm so glad it was helpful! Thank you! We have tables, but indeed no Kanban view.
@@CapacitiesHQ Yes, I see you have simple tables. I currently use Notion, but am looking for something more secure. The functionality to view data as a table or in Kanban view is essential to me, so it looks as if Capacities will not be for me at present sadly.
This video was a great tutorial - finally I feel like I get it now, and wow the possibilities are almost endless! Thanks
Great to hear!
I'm recovering from severe contusions, memory problems, and your application helps me a lot. Many thanks to the developers, please do not stop.
So glad to hear Capacities is helping you! We won't stop! 🚀
Problem I have with all of those apps is that they allow to make a copy of a chaos you have in your mind/project/subject but not allow to bring there some order, put on timeline, prioritize... What those apps allow to do I can do with piece of a paper (a lot of them but still...).
Wait i just installed this yesterday and you are literally telling me that this video in the intro was uploaded yesterday… crazt
2 days before I install, pretty cool.
Same! Loving capactities so far!
I've been using Capacities for a while now, but I have to admit, I am still having quite a hard time managing that "object" notion completely. How can you know if something you implement in the system deserves to be an object or not? Maybe you realize later on that something has become very important in your system and would deserve to be an object. For instance, take a system-how can you know beforehand that a specific thing will represent such a significant amount of content in your system? After using Capacities for a few months, I’ve realized that voice recognition software is something I talk about a lot in my notes, and it would probably deserve to be an object. But I feel like it’s too late now since, as of now, it’s just pages in my system. What do you think?
You can highlight any text and turn it into an object with the '+' button that comes up. You can also turn existing pages into objects of different types (just click the arrow next to the 'page' label and choose the new type.
I don't understand how having a list of "object types" as an upper level is in any way different than just having a folder with that as the name. It seems like the exact same concept to me. I'll keep an eye out for how this software evolves in the future.
The difference to me is that I have to manually enter things into folders, which I forget to do. Also, it seems like the "object type" is a property of the note (like tags, modification date, etc., like it exists in the metadata of the file itself), whereas a folder is just a bucket or box that I put the note into. This has consequences for my workflow. In Capacities, for example, I can jot down stuff as it happens in the daily note. Like, I finished this book and my dog (a kind of non-human person) did this thing. I can create the object for the book, and for my dog, directly from the daily note, and it automatically ends up with other similar objects. So over time, I can live in the daily note, work from that place, jot things down, etc. but then if I want to find a book I read, I don't have to scroll through infinite daily pages. I just go to the "book" object type. Or even better: If I want to see ALL the books I've read, I have them all together without having to manually put them there myself. I can put filters on the books, to create custom views; I can see the fiction separate from the non-fiction, or sort and view it in a myriad of other ways. How could I do that in a folder structure, without having to literally move and duplicate the file itself? I don't know, man, does this make sense?
In Capacities, Object Types differ from folders because they include Properties. These Properties add extra metadata to Object Types. For each Object, we can assign its own Property values. For Custom Object Types, we can create and define our own Properties. These Properties are useful for filtering all objects within a specific Object Type and for creating custom Dashboard sections for that Object Type. We can also create collections from these objects, and one object can belong to multiple collections, which is not possible in a Folder System unless we create aliases. Whenever I add a content piece (other than my random writings in a Daily Note), I ask myself, "What is it?" This helps me determine the Object Type. Next, I ask, "What does it have?" This guides me in filling out the Property values. Finally, I ask, "What is it all about?" This question helps me decide on relevant Tags. For example, in the case of a RUclips video: it is a Weblink Object. It belongs to a RUclips Video collection. The channel it comes from and when I watched it are its Properties. The Tags could be "neuroscience" and/or "consciousness." I have tried Obsidian, Heptabase, and experimented with Tana for some time, as well as Apple Notes. However, Capacities seems to be the best fit for my needs. I do miss the Canvas feature from Obsidian and the Whiteboards from Heptabase. If Capacities adds a similar component to its existing structure, it will be a complete solution for my knowledge management needs. I currently use Todoist for task management and plan to stick with it unless Capacities develops a full-featured task management module. I hope this is helpful.
Objects are useful when you need to distinguish between different types of notes. For example, you would want to differentiate between projects and people. Each type of instance has different properties. Second, objects are not silos like folders. You can access any object throughout your workspace using tags and queries. And finally, you can invoke any other object instance within any note you take by simply using a link to the title of that object instance. Oh! I almost forgot that links within Capacities are bidirectional.
Would love to have an object gallery!
no local-first and no free API. Sorry, I am not impressed.
I have question, If I want write a doccument, what object type I should use?
Page would work nicely for that!
@@CapacitiesHQ tks you so much, I like capacities, but you need improve codeblock color, yellow and orange too bright, not good for eyes And support open/close codeblock is better, now just Javascript and severals can be open/close [] {}
Thanks for the super clear overview. -- Would you make different objects for, say, "inspirational quotes" and "historical quotes"? -- Or is there a better mechanism for sorting types with a general "quotes" object type?
I'd suggest a collection for each group of quotes - check out this video ruclips.net/video/85rFpvl0pvM/видео.htmlfeature=shared
I think it's better to have collections for those subcategories.
I like this tutorials. Good job. Waiting for more tutorials. Thx
More to come!
I am wondering if there's a way to bi-link two objects... I mean for now if you set a property of a object A(e.g. Company) to another object B(e.g. Person), in the object B's view you can only see it's relations through "backlinks". If I create a property related to it's object A, it cannot be auto-linked (e.g. select the corresponding Company object in property Company). Is there a way to achieve this or any other way to structure the content of backlinks?
The links are only in backlinks for now.
You did a great job with this introduction! Thanks for the information!
Glad it was helpful!
So perfect! I've just started my Believer plan and look forward to working with my studio. :)
Thank you. This was great, indeed. How can we add recurring tasks, if in case, we want to
This wouldn't be possible.
I still don't understand how to create an object in Capacities. I thought this video was going to be how to create a new object type, i.e. a new Object in the left hand side bar. Struggling to work out how to do this
Here are some videos about it: ruclips.net/p/PLsPecRbVYl3RtneK8_6LiRK_sk4KgdfBV
FIre hose spee presentation... was turned off initially , but very curious about the concept, so I came back next morning with a fresh min an implemented a hack ... a work-around ... stop every sentence.. write essence thought in progress, assimilate the content ..Basically you are learning how a distributed ata base works
Knowledge is only useful when being able to access it. I think this is a must for Capacities: being able to chat with your entire space with AI in Capacities
This is on our AI roadmap! Here's more info: docs.capacities.io/reference/ai-roadmap
Is creating new objects only available on a desktop client? I can't find a "new type" button anywhere on the android client.
Yes, only desktop.
Hi Beth! thank you for the quick examples of queries. I have a question. My devices currently are limited to a laptop and my phone. Obviously i won't be able to carry my laptop every where i go, so i tend to rely on my phone for stuff like this. My question is, how does a query look like in the mobile app? I've tried replicating something similar to this by just using tags. I put one single tag that defines my would-be home page, then in the home-page object type i just @ the home-page tag. On my laptop i will change the view to Gallery and set filters. But i can't do those things on the mobile app. Will the query feature give me these abilities in the mobile app? I'm asking because i want to replace notion. I have created a very comprehensive PARA dashboard on it. I want to switch apps because i can't use it offline. Will greatly appreciate your answer. Thanks!
Hi, there's no gallery view on mobile but you will see query results in a list form. So you can set the filters in the queries on desktop and then load them in list form on mobile!
It's really good to see a longer Capacitiees tutorial such as this. I'd very much like to see similarly detailed coverage of other aspects of the software.
We have lots more planned!
Title of second video should be title of the first o rewrite titile "Getting Started" to a title that means see this first. The classic for this is Apple's "Read Me First" pamphlet that appeared on the top of the first mac when you opened the box.
1) Would be much easier to follow if the three fundamental pillars are at the beginning rather than having to wait. 2) Speaker needs to slow down her pace to be better understood. 3) Script needs editing/cuts to be more readily understood.
I’m currently using Notion for lots of hobby blogging and Zoho for personal admin stuff because it is secure. It has password security AND automatic AFK locking. But I’d love a Notion-like app with password & AFK because Zoho seems too clunky for the sheer volume of notes I have in Notion. Does Capacities have that?
I don't seem to have the option to embed the Area tag into the page as you've shown here :(
If you alt/option click on the tag, you should see 'turn into link block' and that should give you three dots at the end from which you can choose the embed option.
@@CapacitiesHQ That worked! Thank you :)
Hi! How to get the timeline dropdown section? I don't see it.
It comes up automatically if you have a timestamp for the date you're on.

I can't tell if I can draw and do voice or audio notes like Google Keep or Microsoft OneNote but this would be amazing especially with color codes notes and tags. This would be amazing
Will you ever consider letting us use our own images as icons? Since that's already something we can do with headers.
How is this different from Tana?
Really love how notes circulates around day! Completely transforms my workflow for the better! Thank you so much guys!
You forgot to back link your previous videos, so it's getting difficult to know what previous video you are referring to in your current video
ill forever. pay business and apps what they are worth 10000% ima writer, and artist creator - such a creative individual this is really important to me
From a customer perspective, but also a business owner who values authenticity and using our voices (our own) in all we do - unless that voice wants to allow others in; what I mean by this is at the beginning, both of you had stated that keeping capacities (your vision right from the beginning not just the video lol :) the core of capacities and it not being a tool for everyone and it not having everything for everyone and I find that most applications - that's their goal always just try to keep getting better than the next and getting the same features as the next, so you know, since you're different, you're differentiating your product and your values and your vision in your mission. It is admirable and I respect it just because one person is doing it doesn't mean that you have to do it because you are right not everyone is going to like what you have and that is OK because at the end of the day, the customers who are compatible with the app will remain loyal and continue to use their voice to express the things that potentially could make a difference and collaborate in a sense right because you take what we suggest and you don't just brush it off you listen... You actually process it and discuss and you come back and you explain it with a valid response as to why that feature may or may not come again. great work guys
lol obviiously I am a believer HAHA :D yes i a m lol
I use capacities every day (early believer). I love the way it is heading. Looking forward to all the exiting features to come. Keep up the good work 👍🙂.
