A King Alfred Way Adventure
Usually the King Alfred Way starts and ends in Winchester, but our attempt was starting in Farnham as it was easier to get to via the train network,
Unfortunately at Salisbury my bike and neck had given up ending in an incomplete route on my behalf,

Should you Upgrade Your Gravel Wheels? (To Carbon?)

Hi All, Just thought I would make a video going through my thoughts on whether it is worth upgrading from your stock alloy rims that come with most gravel bikes to deeper dish carbon ones This video was made using GoPro Hero 11

Great honest review, good advice for the stiffness. On a side note i was hesitating between the Lauf and the suspension Grizl, what’s the difference? Curiosity i love my Lauf
@@frozensun1223 I do love the lauf and the leaf suspension they use! Also think it looks amazing! The suspension Grizl is my perfect bike I reckon just because the terrain I often like to tackle, I find the lauf suspension is great to ease out the constant vibrations whilst the rockshox Rudy suspension forks are better at the big hit and heavier set rocks, I can make a video reviewing/talking about the rockshox suspension forks if that’s something you’d be interested in?
@@SamuelBarrettBikesthat would be awesome.
Super interesting frame. Never seen one out on the road. How much does your frame/ build weigh?
Yeah you don't see too many of them around! Unsure about the frame but the build with pedals and cages sits at 8.03kg so not the lightest but for an XL aero bike with aluminium cranks is respectable
Thanks for sharing. I got the same pair but 1.0 version. I had to cut and shorten the laces on my right shoe so it wouldn't catch crank. I think you have 2.0. How are the laces? It says bungee like laces on the adidas description.
Yeah I think I have the 2.0, if anything I thought initially they were too short! But I find that they are definitely elastic, it is handy as the combination of elastic laces and close fitting sock style sole means they are held in place without feeling the laces in pressure points, definitely think they are an upgrade and haven't found any occasion that the laces are too long
Great video. Good review and feedback. Cheers mate
I like it. I take things like biking and skiing as a chance to throw some bold colours on. Express yourself a bit. Not every day you get to wear BRIGHT red shoes. Also with your grey bike, they stand out even more.. like why not, it's fun. They look cool. And your outfit isn't Powerrangery at all. If anything it's mild for road cycling colours! I might get these Fizik PS Aeroweave pink things haha, have a look.
Exactly my thoughts! And hey bright shoes may be harder to clean but keep you safer when there are cars around!
Adidas dropped Ye for telling the truth, gives millions of dollars to ADL, and utilizes Israeli manufacturing contractors. So I am not willing to buy anything Adidas.
You don’t need those shoes nor the power ranger outfit
I don’t need them but if you watched the video the review says I like them but they aren’t for everyone, guess you are someone who isn’t a fan of the looks and that’s all good!
Unless the "pressure sensor" you were on at that light is a lot different than normal, it's actually an induction loop. It doesn't have anything to do with weight or pressure, it works by sensing a change in the electromagnetic field generated by the coil of wire buried in the asphalt. Large masses of ferrous metal or very strong magnets will trip the sensor. So unless that sensor is tuned to bike-sized objects and you're riding a steel bike, it won't get triggered by your bike. Just trying to clear up a common misconception!
There you go! so it is right for me to just wait for a car to come along and if not go on the path haha, but that is genuinely interesting thank you!
Bro popped up on my RUclips suggestions!
You are welcome!
Loving the look of the Flanders!
It's an amazing looking bike!
You look like that guy who passed Gerant Thomas in Adelaide!
I think what you've concluded here is likely true, certainly for me in any case. I upgraded to some handbuilt 37 mm deep carbon road wheels, and with 28 mm tyres they were incredibly uncomfortable over long distances. Same spokes, hubs and tyres, but on a mid range aluminium rim are way better and weigh virtually the same, but perhaps slightly less aero. Likewise, I'm less worried about their durability and are easily replaced if they do get damaged. Glad to see the sun is shining your end. It's very wet here in the UK and has been like it for months 😢!
Exactly! Think there are time and places for both! I’m a bit of a bike snob so will always love deep carbon wheels but sometimes less thought and more practicality is actually better!
Hi Samuel Did you have to modify the rear Mac? To accept the 36 cassette I was trying to fit a 36 cassette to my sram force but I couldn’t get it to work properly Be great if you let me know many thanks
Hi there! I have the 2xmid-length rear mech and it actually went across without issues, if I am in small-small there is a quite loose chain (even more pronounced because of the big cassette going down to 11-36 when it can fit 52-36 is a big jump, but apart from the chain moving when in large gears on potholed roads haven't had any issues with the setup, was the issue from reach or just getting it to run smoothly?
Here in my garage.... jk, onya sam
Nice video mate, considering buying this exact model and colour, how does it compare to other aero bikes you’ve had? Is the ride super hard?
Yeah amazing bike, it is relatively stiff front but I think replacing my deda stem with the integrated stem and bars would relieve this issue, Recently was riding the Canyon Aeroad and I would say the koppenberg is similar feeling of stiffness to the CFR but the Flanders I would say stretches out a little further and surprisingly sits in a more aggressive position, In general very nice fast bike but it starts getting quite aggressive for 100+km rides as all stiff aero bikes will
@@SamuelBarrettBikes love it, thanks so much mate! Appreciate you taking the time to reply. Would love to see more riding with this bike maybe for future videos? And a free hub sound check, obviously 😀
@@Ian-H76 I'll definitely try and get some more rides recorded on the Flanders! Just need a better mic to give the free hub sound check justice...
