The best Starboard SUP Paddle you can get! Prepreg, Carbon or Tiki Tech?!

The best Starboard SUP Paddle you can get! Prepreg, Carbon or Tiki Tech?!
Why is Sting teaching windfoiling?
I've just got a 105 Kode as my light wind float and ride board and yes it is great! For my weight (65kg) the 105 is stable enough to uphaul if I have to, yet fine for catching whatever waves might be around. A good platform for improving fast tacks and heli-tacks, and compact enough to fit in the lift. It has really opened up those 'kite only' days at my local spot! I have placed the foostraps in their most forward freewave positions (as opposed to the indicated rearwards wave positions), as this corresponds more nearly with the middling settings on my Goya One 86L board - which happens to be almost exactly the same length though of course rather narrower (I have the thruster fin setup for both). Perhaps you can shed some light on why the Kode straps (and mast track too actually) are biased to the rear compared to the Goya One? Note also the difference with the Kode mast track compared with the Ultra in your video, again it's a good inch or two further back!
Torn between the 115 and the 125. My sails range from 4.5 to 6.5, I’m 73 Kg and I’m sailing in 10-15 knots. What do you recommend? Thanks
Looks good. Is there an easy way to move the hook out of the way if e.g. the wind drops and need to paddle back? I also windsurf - will a windsurf harness fit underneath?
I love your videos!!!! as a beginner (2-3 years sailing now in a place without a lot a wind) your videos made me understand perfectly the difference between boards. You should do the same with SAILS, no content out there about the difference of sails, wave, freeride, slalom, how many battens, cambers etc etc.
Just got mine, Size M, after trying out the Size L. It's a snug fit. Does it loosen up a touch over time? Size L felt bulky and a loose fit, hence downsized to M, but wasn't expecting to feel this smaller. Thanks!
Regretfully, I purchased this vest for kitesurfing with a seat harness. Retention loop fell off on first use. Vest rides up despite straps and reflector fabric ripped off after a month. I suppose my vest slipped by quality control.
How do I fix a 99 carve for speed and jump on a choppy sea?
Is this Carve suited for choppy conditions? Concerned on the width will make it too bouncy in chop. Unfortunately my local spot is choppy even in moderately light winds.
Why do I have to compromise on tech & weight just to get a blue paddle? I’d love a prepreg, but I don’t want red.
What would you recommend is my next board? I have RRD FIRESTORM V3 123 litre. And is very choppy. I want a board that is easy to go upwind and planted to the water and faaast. 65 kg
Hi, the Futura might be the board for you! Also a stock model in the UK. Here's more info on Starboard's website: windsurf.star-board.com/windsurfing-boards/freeride-racing-windsurf-boards/futura-freerace-windsurf-board/
Even though I have been windsurfing a long time, I learned a lot from this video. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video! I am a former intermediate advanced sailor who use to use a 9'6" high performance glass board. I would like to get back into sailing. I sail Santa Barbara, and Ventura California. Ventura can blow a consistent 15 to 18 knots, Santa Barbara is usually lighter, and 10 to 15. I would like to get a Starboard Go, I weigh 210lbs and would like to get a board that will float me, but also be functional in higher winds. I water start and jibe, but would also like to be able to use the board to teach my son. What do you suggest?
Hi, either a Go or a Carve in one of the larger sizes would suit! The Carve offers more high end performance than the Go, yet still user friendly. The Go however, has the centre fin option which would be great to teach your son! Perhaps head down to your local Starboard Stockists to have a look at both boards to help decide which is best for you :)
I started windsurfing 25 years ago and at the time would read Peter's articles in great detail, again and again. Later I bought his VHS cassettes of Carve Clinic 1 and 2, Turn for the Better 1 and 2, even Show'n Off 1 and 2 - I still have them all. His explanation and knowledge certainly transferred through into my head and I cannot thank the man enough for what he did to my sailing in the formative years. Coming back to the video, this will certainly help many folks make that decision. What a legend he is. Looking forward to meeting him one day in Cape Town, I hope.
Thanks for the great feedback!
I'm tempted by the Futura, but can't decide which size. Im 70kg and mostly sail a 117 F2 Stoke on the Reservoir, with no bigger than 7m sail. I just want to be carried though the lulls a bit better and have more upwind performance. I used to sail on the sea loads with my 87ltr F2 Style, it's taken me a while (19 years, still not quite right ) to figure out what works in the pond - fresh water and inconsistent breeze can make sailing frustrating. In lower winds I switch to the wingfoil. (sorry!)
The 110 would probably suit you best!
What size Carve for a bigger sailor? 100kg?
Hi, there's a size recommendation on Starboard's website, alternatively get in touch with your local Starboard Retailer, the'll be able to advise further.
What volume for a 85kg sailor?
Hi, there's a size recommendation on Starboard's website, alternatively get in touch with your local Starboard Retailer, the'll be able to advise further.
@@tushinghamsalesltd could you link me to the page?
Very informative Simon. What do you think of using an NCX for foiling? Cheers
Hi, we find the Turbo, Moto and Gator much better for foiling as these all have much better low end power. Of course the Foilglide is amazing, as it's specifically designed for freeride windfoiling. hope this helps!
Hi Peter. I am considering trading my 2020 GO 133 in for this 129 beauty. What is your recomendation? Will be there be any improvement because the GO board follow the Carve shapes. What will be the main diffrence between the two? Thanks
Hi, Tushingham Team here. The 129 is certainly an improvement, you'll notice earlier planing, quicker top speed and easier gybing on the newest model!
awesome, how do the sizes fit, would it be doable to get one size larger so i can still grow and keep using the vest or is that not nice with the vest starting to become loose?
Hi, we would recommend getting the size that fits you best currently, as this will offer the most performance and impact protection from the vest. Hopefully within your local watersports community if you were to grow out of your vest then you could easily resell and invest in the size larger, later down the line. Regards, Tushingham Team
Peter, you are the man! Love these informative videos!
Glad you like them!
Hey, what is the minimum wind speed needed for freestyle?
depending on the rider and kit, 15knts+!
Is that starboard ace air foil board available? Or is there a video about it?
Hey! Yes it is, Starboard are releasing the information on it very soon. also, Supboarder magazine have one, they've tested it and have a video coming too.
It is so beautiful that I would be scared to scratch it...damn
Us too!
Excellent explanation!
Glad it was helpful!
I need to go for a SUPfoil on ours soooooon
Need some south coast swell to come through!!
Amazing video. This will be played in the shop :)
Glad you like it!
As usual Harty’s explanations are first rate. I like the lazy option of pottering around and blasting along at breakneck speed on the mid 2010’s floaty Rio with a Tushingham 8.5m2 race sail. I really miss the Tushingham sails.
Sounds awesome!
Siiiiiiick!
Thanks!
I miss my star board, no one windsurfs any longer
They do!!!
Now I really dont know what to buy. Wanted to get something around 120l for the family. Was thinking initially of a JP Magic Ride 119, then I saw Duotone Eagle 120 looks interesting, and now this! Probably the best board review I have ever seen. Is the weight difference noticeable with the other construction? I don't want to have to carry it over the stones in Vassiliki every time my wife wants to go on the water.....
Hey! Thanks for the feedback. There is a weight difference, I'd suggest heading to Starboard's website as they list the weights of all sizes/constructions for you to compare. Here's a link: windsurf.star-board.com/windsurfing-boards/freeride-racing-windsurf-boards/carve-freeride-windsurf-board/
Fantastic explanation, thank you! I love Peter’s enthusiasm
Glad you enjoyed it!
I just bought an old used one for real cheap. Its real easy to poke holes in lo. l Its at the end of is life. With that said I think you should ship me a new one. Please and thank you ...
We'd recommend speaking to your local Starboard Retailer, you won't be disappointed with a new one!
Super bella❤
❤❤
I go dinghy sailing, I tried windsurfing once on an 80's board which I brought for £10, but found it impossible and quickly gave up. I made the mistake of assuming that because I can sail that windsurfing would be easy. The Go Windsurf looks a lot more user friendly, especially the 175 or 186. Are they much more stable than the older style boards? I live next to a nice beach in Lowestoft and it seems a shame not to go for a blast.
Yes, much more stable thanks to the width and volume distribution! the latest Starboard Go is by far the easiest and most progressive board to learn to windsurf on.
@@tushinghamsalesltd Cheers. I'm considering the Start too, it's like a ship.
@@tushinghamsalesltd Thanks for the reply.I'm considering the Start too, it's like a ship. With the right conditions, this beach has zero beach break, so it's perfect for a big board. Cheers
Hello Matt!...l have a some questions. I am using the 1400 front wing. How far forward should l put the mast track position from the front tuttle screw and can l play a bit with the stab rake if it doesn't get on the foil early enough? I am 85 kg. and with my weight would you recommend the 80 or 85cm Alien? Looking forward to your reply. Thank you, Tibor
Hey! on our channel we have a video on how to get into Windfoiling with Simon Bornhoft. This video should be able to answer a few of your set up queries! We've never found the need to adjust the tail wing angle on the Redwing however I'm sure that if you wanted to then some aftermarket shims could be made via a 3d printer etc. I'd recommend the 80 (145) for you as it's a fantastic allrounder.
There is Bjorn, there is Naish and there is Harty. His continued chops mean the world to many of us,
Agreed!
Always good to see Harty! Please can you do a Blade rigging guide?
Hi, we'll be working on more videos with Peter, stay tuned!
So which sail model would suit the Kode best? Dedicated wave or Freewave or both?
I use the Blades - but Gator or similar crossover sail works equally well, esp if you're doing more bump and jumping than pure wave sailing
Severne Gator or Blade!
Se non ho capito male la mano è una tavola adatta al wave riding ma non per onde molto grandi 2-3 mt?
Correct! Anything up to logo high the Nano is fantastic! Bigger waves you might want a different style of board like the Project Scott for better control
Hi, thanks for the helpful review - I ride S1s, mainly in UK bump n jump, and I love the feel of the sails. I’ve recently bought a Pyro and find the guys on blade / pyro are sailing with more drive and upwind grip than me. Any tips on getting the best out of a S1 / Pyro combo for bump n jump? 👍🏻
Hi, Matt here. I personally use the S-1 and Pyro combo and love it. There is a difference in the performance of the S-1 vs Blade, both have different styles of sailing. The Blade might be more stable and have better upwind drive however the S-1 has more low end power and is much more manoeuvrable. Pro's and cons of each! I use the Pyro as a thruster, I found the larger rear fin offers more back foot drive for upwind - maybe this will help you.
Thanks for the reply - coincidentally, I have also been riding the Pyro with a thruster and found it much better with the S1 - as you say, I guess it’s just tuning to the subtle differences between the Blade v S1 👍🏻
Where is this?
Fuerteventura, but the beach hasn't been confirmed on Facebook. Someone suggested "glass beach...El Burro.. Looks like......."
Hello...I need to know if this 11.2 board would be suitable for someone with measures of 6.4 and 95 kgs? I have doubts if for the 12.5 or this one. In advance, thank you very much for your help. Good video. Best Regards ! PS: In both SUP and windsurfing, I am an intermediate level.
Hi, yes it should be fine. Starboard recommends this board for riders up to 100kgs.
Legend
Hi! I am looking at the freeride evolution foil, but my local shop is all out of the 95 evolution fuselage. How will the freeride setup work with the 102 classic fuselage? I am on a Foil X 145 board. Weight at 95kg =) My largest sail is a 6.7 5 batten "power wave sail", but I mostly go out with my 5.9 4 batten wave sail and the Supercruiser 1700.
Hi, apologies for the late reply I've just picked up your comment. i'd advise staying with the 95 Evo fuselage, you should be able to get hold of one in the UK. the 102 classic is a different shape for a different style of foiling and won't work as well as the 95.
@@tushinghamsalesltd no worries 😊 Thanks for the info! I also wonder about the footsrap position on the foil x 145. I find the outboard position difficult to balance in light wind, but really good in stronger winds. Is it any good to put the front foot in the inboard position, while the rear on the outboard?
Hi Matt, I really enjoyed your review of Starboard Supercruiser foil, thanks. I've just bought a Supercruiser evolution 2022, with an 85 mast, to pair with foil ready JP Super ride 132 FWS. However the angles of the rear bolt don't match unfortunately. I could possibly drill it, get a different mast, board etc :) What would be your best solution please? Thank you! Damian
Hi Damien, thanks for the feedback. Apologies for the late reply, I've just seen your comment. I have very little experience with JP boards unfortunately, so I wouldn't be able to advice on any modifications to the board. The angle of the barrel bolts (through the mast) can be altered, however if it's the holes in the mast that don't line up for the bolts then the only way forward might be to speak to a JP specialist/board repairer who might be able to advise on a modification to drill through the foil box. Sorry I can't help much further!
Amazing info thanks Julius
Glad it was helpful!
I wish I had seen this video a year ago. I was struggling with similar transition, and this gives a very good explanation of why it happens and how to adapt to this change. And the tip to go down a sail size is invaluable, it really works!
Glad it was helpful!
Does it get heavy when wet?
might do slightly, but not noticeable when wearing it.
Hi Peter can you tell me with the freewave kode 105 do you waterstart the same as a freeride ? Thanks in advance Anthony
Hi Anthony, for technique questions please get in touch with Peter directly via his social media or website as it's unlikely he'll see these comments on YT.
