What about using splints in open fracuters? :P
I love it!!!! But you forgot to wear the gloves when attending to the casualty
Excellent video guys. Love that blanket roll.
On the 11:32 sling, my opinion is sling should support wrist and splint not just extremity to avoid tugging of extremity. Great Skills
thanks!
What are you using to wrap the elbow Splint ?
What is the point of the sweathe
It holds the arm to the chest, it makes transportation a lot safer, according to OEC 6
Good stuff! One point on humerus: I recall wanting a 1-inch gap between the elbow and the SAM splint. One end of splint in armpit, and coming up outside of arm. Distal to proximal bandaging. OEC6; North Lake Tahoe NSP.
Some common mnemonics (thank you for that word!) and acronyms in basic medical treatment include AVPU (alert, verbal stimuli, painful stimuli, unresponsiveness), SAMPLE (signs/symptoms, allergies, medications, past medical history, last oral intake, and events leading up to), OPQRST (onset, provocation [does anything make it better or worse], quality of pain [i.e. sharp or dull], region or radiation, severity, and time. DCAP-BTLS (deformities, contusions, abrasions, punctures, burns, lacerations, tenderness, and swelling). Lastly, there is PERRL (pupils, equal, round, reactive, light).
Very interesting and informative and unique.....
What if there is no pulse? these videos show always 1 format... but never take for account that all your check lists... some of those items might go wrong.. like .. no pulse.. then what? what if the arm is cut off from circulation..>_> make 1 of these videos in the worse case scenario to wich the person can be saved.. GO!
If there is no pulse then worst case scenario your patient maybe in cardiac arrest, and they need CPR. If there is just no pulse in just that extremity then you should still immobilize but try to not compress vessels and get them to the hospital stat.
No pulse = traction splint
Thankkkkkk you sooooooooo much
This was very difficult to watch. A very poor basic assessment.
Hi Jon, Thank you for the honest feedback. This video was created based on the OEC assessment skill sheets produced by the National Ski Patrol. While most assessments are similar, working outside in the environment requires different ways to assess a patient.
