You can pinch and strech it too pal
I've just tried that, but I can only get from the small one to the medium one doing that on a Samsung.
hi mate quick update I got my rack out and opened it up, find out that the belt has slipped or moved out of position now need a new belt, will updated you once I finished the job
Yep, that little belt is fiddly!
What did you do after. Have the same problem. Plese hjelp😊
I disconnected the wires from the motor, and have just been driving around without power steering for the last few months!
hi what happened to the power steering issue? i have similar issue need a solution
Still haven't sorted it out yet, there's a bloke taking a look at it tomorrow. It's been a nightmare!
@@walshysworld245 apparently someone told me it needs coding using only mercedes machine, I had to unplug the motor to drive the car, am also still looking for someone to sort this out kept us updated on any solutions thx
Did you get it to work with replacing the motor?
Make sure you inform your insurance as well as they will class this as a modification
I spoke to my insurance company Sarah. They don't consider tables to be a significant modification, therefore they didn't take a record of it.
Thats good then, my insurance company threatened to cancel mine just for installing an apple play head unit in my vivaro!
Juat a warning but that’s going to cause some horrific injuries to the rear passengers in the event of an accident
Thanks for the warning Sarah, but it won't.
Oh i though your insurer was Sarah, why are you calling me Sarah? Is it like calling someone a Karen?
Scary to watch but u did it so well
What is the point in doing a video when you don't bother doing a follow up on how it finished up???

Yep, it may be slower than the sighted leading the blind, but it still gets there in the end. I filmed this as I literally could not find a single video showing how you did it. I suggest you upload a better one.

Well done, I’m hiring scaffold to fix my 3 m panel slip, just need to find out if you need a sealant.
It shouldn't need silicone, but I suppose 4 strategic dabs of silicone to ensure it doesn't slip again couldn't hurt. If you're left with a gap anywhere between the panel and the securing bar, a window packer under the panel would be the way to sort that. Good luck!
@@walshysworld245 it would happen during a wet winter ! cheers for the vid, very inspiring
Same for me last year, it was brutal when I was fixing it!
Got the same problems we speak my had water in it but dried out run for 5 weeks all good till this morning not a happy chappy good luck £3k its a whole power steering rack
No, I'm in Preston! I've put it back together and reinstalled it, but it's actually worse! I'm still on the drawing board phase! I'm thinking I might have overheated it trying to dry it out! ECUtesting will look at the motor, its £450 for the service though. Any other motor is about £80 on Ebay.
Ah I see, guessing you've had bad flooding down there too, if you have the motor off, you could try taking the black electrical block off and checking the board, if water has been sat in there for a long time the board can go moldy and gather green gunk on it which in turn causes a short circuit throwing an error light in the van. I've dried mine off as much as I can and started it up this morning and it's still the same, so looks like I'm going to have to take the motor off like you have done and try fix it. Looked like when you take the motor off yours power steering fluid leaked out, have you checked the Ps level to see if its not drained down, as that will cause an error code too, you could also check the 100amp fuse the back of the battery under the drivers seat with a bleep voltmeter
That electrical cover is factory sealed to the motor, I think it would be difficult to get it back in properly, but maybe necessary. It's an electrical motor, not a mechanical motor, there's no power steering fluid feeding it.
@walshysworld245 ok mate, reassuring to know there's no power steering fluid behind the motor. Yeah the electrical block needs to come off in order to fix, but maybe best for a specialist to do, they would be sealed with like special silicone to stop any ingress of water, but looking at it there are 3 x bolts to take out, the one side would be mechanical with the metal splines on which would be on a bearing, and the other side would be electrical with the connectors on. Which would power the motor. I've taken electrical pumps apart in the past so I'm a little familiar with how they work, just never a electrical power steering unit lol
Just managed to get the motor off mine, it was easier to take the passenger wheel off for me and use a long extension bar with torques bit on a swivel socket, struggled to do it from underneath myself, I shook it in the sink and it was still full of water and dirt, it leaked out all the connectors. So I'm going to dry it off overnight on the radiator hoping it will work tomorrow fingers crossed lol
You don't live by stratford by any chance 😂 I drove through flood water and this has happened to me , had power steering malfunction in my w447 vito, and taken the connector plugs out and water would not stop pissing out, so I'm guessing its full of water still, I'm hoping the board isn't blown a resister or 2 once it dries out, I jacked mine up high on the one side hoping gravity will do its work and used a hot air drier underneath', how much did it cost to repair in the end mate? I might take mine to an electrical shop near me
Mercedes Crew 🙌🙌
Fair play to you for giving it a go, and I’m not going to make smarty-pants comments about the approach! Couple of things, those panels commonly slip when the rubber seals start to age and you can generally push the panel back from the bottom due to the slack that now exists. I had to do this with mine and then I use some packing pieces to stop it slipping back down. You don’t want it all the way up though as there needs to be a few millimetres gap to allow for expansion. I wouldn’t recommend standing on that roof at all. To get the cap back on the support bar you can simply use a rubber mallet and gently tap it down. I suspect you will find that that panel will slip again unfortunately. But as I say, somehow wedged from the bottom and it will keep it in place.
Thanks Steve, in mine there is no slack, the panel had been slipped by a cat chasing birds a few times. I tried a few times to slide the panel back up from below, it bent the rubber seals each time. Mine had no issues being stood on.
@@walshysworld245 Fair do’s. Another approach is to use silicon spray on the rubber seal and even use a credit card to get the spray to penetrate around the rubber seal. That may temporarily allow the panel to be pushed back. Not always of course. Only mentioning in case it is a benefit to others.
Thanks a lot!!!
You're welcome!
Good point! It's a 2010, sorry for the confusion!
No worries, they must've complicated it even further after the 2014 model lol

Always wondered how you did this, thanks 😊 👍
I watched someone before doing this before, pop it back in and then silicone it.
Reckon a laminate floor pulling tool would have done this in a couple of minutes mate?
Maybe, I don't know that tool!
That panel will move around easily as the rubber seals have lost their friction due to age. No need to remove the cap from the support bar.
I know that you probably heard this already, but you should buy a dog harness. It doesn't choke the dog like a collar, and there's less of a risk that she slips out.
Exactly what I thought, they cost about a score too
I've tried her with harnesses, she doesn't like them.
