Sonata 6.7 trailer sailer. ( trailerable sailboat)
Добавлен 30 дек 2021
Small wave surfing in our Sonata 6 7
Offshore racing sailboats, use the waves sloping face for acceleration and the created apparent wind angle and increased wind speed to plane, (Surf on top of the water. Not down a wave, but diagonally across it. As opposed to pushing through the water. Theres much less drag when planing, but the hull must be designed for it). Here's a couple of short squirts in our Sonata 6.7, in almost no swell, showing the apparent wind angle being twisted and increased to get 7-8 knots boat speed in about 10 -12 knots true wind speed.

Sonata 6.7 trailer sailer off NSW east coast

Short clips of our Sonata 6.7 sailing off the East Coast. Ghosting along in the light breezes but by using the apparent wind speed/ angle and trimming accordingly, (Total windspeed and direction generated by the boats speed through the water added onto true winds speed/ direction), gives more power to even easily exceed the hull speed regularly. Note how light the true winds speed is when we sl...
Sonata 6.7 (22 ft) Trailer Sailer Yacht sailing off Australia's East Coast
Просмотров 9 тыс.2 года назад
Short clips of a Sonata 6.7 (22 footer) sailing off Australia's east coast. This model Sonata was designed by American Gary Mull and considered 'way ahead of their time'. A wide beam, flat bottom sections carried aft, harder bilges and generous freeboard, coupled with a strongly rigged, fully tuneable twin spreader fractional rig, produced a very stiff/ stable efficient sailboat that also just ...
Beautiful boat mate, looks like a great time. What size outboard are you running?
Thanks Matt. A great design. Carry a 6hp but a 4 would do it. Sails so well in any weather, we only use it into a pen or at the ramp. Cheers
@@sonata6.777 Brilliant stuff, happy sailing out there. I thought a 6 would move it along just right but you make a good point on the 4. She does look to glide through the water with minimal effort. Best trailer boat out there!
Nice hi i am interested Australia
Good on you both, looks like you're enjoying life. The description on this page is informative, though I would've liked a bit of commentary or maybe a few more captions? Thanks for posting this video.
Thanks for the tips! I'll post another later this yr. Cheers
@@sonata6.777 Looking forward to it...and they were more like suggestions than tips, I'm the one learning from you guys...
Looks fast and what a nice boat. Thanks
Cheers. She sails like she looks. Have not had a bad moment sailing this boat. ( 6th sailboat in 50yrs). Light and very responsive helm. Stiff, stable, predictable sailing. No nasty vices, even in 30knts, double reefed and small jib, hard work but no worry. They are a great design that l cant fault. For a 22 footer they have a great cockpit/ deck layout and comfortable accomodation for cruising. Forgot to mention how well she sails. Make a perfect alrounder, club racing, family cruising. A pleasure to sail. If you can find a rare good one that's actually been maintained and has a lead ballast keel, l recommend them wholeheartedly.
I had a Sonata 6.7 and they are fantastic to sail. I do miss it. www.youtube.com/@artyspost1956
