I am glad you are enjoying the lessons Christopher. The templates are meant to print very light so that they don't show through on the final drawing so maybe try printing on a higher setting to see if that helps. If not let me know then I will upload a darker version for you.

haha, I never realised I said that during class. South Africans call a mechanical pencil a clutch pencil :)

As you go you will create your own figure 8 type pattern that comes naturally so just play around stick with whatever pattern feels comfortable for you :) When you are learning a new technique don't try to go fast. Take your time. Once you have mastered it, you will automatically / naturally be able to go faster. I always say: You only have to draw the drawing once so why rush it. It will last a lifetime after you have completed it :)

Thank you :) As with all new techniques, cross hatching does take time to master. This lesson looks deceptively simple, but you have to be able to see AND recreate the tonal value which takes time and practice. Initially go slow to master the techniques. Once you have mastered them speed will come automatically :)

I would put doing tonal charts at an 11. Doing tonal charts teaches you how to control your pencils, shade correctly AND see tonal values correctly. 90% of the drawing is those 3 things, the other 10% is knowing how to create different textures, eye hand co-ordination and sketching skills.
