It is a land where generations of Watermen still continue to harvest Rockfish, Blue Crabs and the ever famous Virginia Oyster and, family farms still flourish to this day.

He is the author of several books many of which deal with George Washington both as a person and as a national icon. Where the Cherry Tree Grew: The Story of Ferry Farm, George Washington’s Boyhoo...

Biff Henderson's America visits Montross, Virginia, in the Northern Neck, a peninsula between the Potomac and Rappahannock Rivers near the Chesapeake Bay (about 2-3 hours from Washington, DC). Biff interviews the Sheriff, visits the Westmoreland County Museum and attempts to take over as Mayor!
My ancestors is King Carter I love the northern neck the Amish are nice love the people here great place to visit and live
I have a project under construction near this town, so I've been spending a lot of time here. It's a beautiful town.
What is all that banging? Very distracting, and very unfortunate.
I live in montross. I love the northern neck!! ❤️❤️❤️
The Amish are in Richmond County and Lancaster County and Northumberland Va
My 10 great grandfather King Carter lived in Lancaster Va I live here now
[MY, 3RD GREAT GRANDFATHER CAME FROM ENGLAND ON THE MAYFLOWER OVER TO THE NEW WORLD AND SETTLED HERE IN NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY VIRGINIA]🙏
Interesting video. My mother’s ancestors were some of the first settlers on the Neck in the 1650’s. Maj. Edward Dale and his wife Diana Skipwith were in St.Mary Whitechapel parish and were 13th generation grandparents to my mom. I’m hoping to visit the area in the future.
That area of Lancaster County was one of the earliest areas of English settlement in the Northern Neck. St. Mary's Whitechapel has a beautiful cemetery, and nearby Lancaster VA Historical Society is a treasure-trove of genealogical papers and material. The Clerk's office in Lancaster was one of the few in VA that did not suffer a fire, so many of the records are still available. Let me know if you need more info!
@@lisahull1249 thanks. I know other descendant of the family who are genealogists have dug into those records over the years and we have a huge book taking the family line with records down to my 7x great grandparents in Tennessee. But if I get the chance to come back to Virginia, a trip to the courthouse and historical society is on the list!
Dales were distant relatives to my wife.
Nice place

Keshyra Smith nothing to do besides The three restaurants and the three or four antique shops. Westmoreland State Park is hella beautiful though so that’s what keeps bringing me back. That and the land my parents own right off of Chiltons and weeks rd.. not sure if you would know them but are old man or old lady weeks still alive? Haven’t seen either of them in quite some time
My last name is Montross. I should be mayor or something
my grandfather was on this show but they cut his part out :(
Hey, that was my Uncle In that video. He is gone but not forgotten. He was an awesome Uncle.
No cellphone reception 10 minutes before you get into town...but Angelo's Pizza is the best!
I grew up here!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The narrator definitely doesn't have THE strongest NNK accent but it's certainly there...notice how he said, "throughout?" Reminds me of my grandparents. Though I grew up in Richmond County and am proud to be from the area, I could never live there again. When I go back to visit, it boggles me how little has changed. In fact, it seems every time I return, it looks more and more isolated and run-down.
I have the misfortune of living there. It doesn't seem to look all that much different...
Rob, This area offers many pleasures consistent with a rural lifestyle, love of early American/Colonial history and the outdoors. As Daniel mentioned, safety is great so children can have more freedom than is possible in other more suburban settings; friendly neighbors are the norm, the way of life here. If you would like more info on life in the Northern Neck, you are welcome to contact me at 804.333.1919.
not to much to do but everyone knows everyone. and your kids can still play outside.

You're right ! Keep your eyes open - between the new Museum exhibit space, the Art of Coffee (great coffee, jewelry & art), and the Inn at Montross - fully restored as a B&B & restaurant, Montross is a happenin' little town. Biff should come back!
