Shawshank Redemption
Did Stephen King use this story as inspiration for The Shawshank Redemption? Too many similarities for it to be coincidence
I noticed it too
What an unsatisfactory story!
Our reality is an Alternative to this story.
More than a few people would gladly have this as reality.
This is almost our reality
I agree. While capital punishment never did or does now, decreed crimes, if zou take a like you forfeit yours. Even more so when it is a very brutal or heinous crime.
Hard to listen to.
Really enjoyed listening to this short story at 3.45an
He wrote some fantastic stories--this was NOT one of them.
Interesting story
This a story by Dostoyevski. you have not understood it. He was an Artist. Also, this is read by a robot and quite badly. It cannot be properly listened to by any means. if you read it, as it was meant to be taken in, it would be a totally different experience! Do have a good day :)🌷🌱
Thank you for your comment. The aim of this channel is to make classic works of literature more accessible. Hope you have a good day too :)
another beautiful, soulful Russian author. 🪽🕊️☯️
Interesting and thought provoking but the repetition of names is really annoying
Thank you for your comment. I can see what you mean but we are trying not to change the original translation.
When a man is as poor as these unfortunate people are, his name is all he has.
I get the message of the story - books are one of the best friend of one's mind; still I find the story creepy.
That's Chekhov for you
The story was a jewel of wisdom and your narration was like a stark light brilliantly exposing every facade iof this simple yet profound revelation. As a writer/rancontuer, I, Thank you for sharing. Your narration was excellent for this story. 🌹
I'll have to find out the impetus for Chekov here, how he assessed this story later. It is, after all, pure fantasy.
So? all stories and storied novels are fantasy. you have NO respect for the writer of books, plays, film, poetry. . . you also have no Respect for actors, painters, composers or any other artistic work. good writers and actors work hard to get into other people’s heads. i suppose “Anna Karenina” or “Macbeth” is “only fantasy”. “only fantasy, my foot!”
[This is at the end, so you don’t think i get like this and then don’t say sorry for being angry. “maybe you didn’t mean to be so callous - if so, sorry for getting so upset. Also, i don’t mean to be callous either - that statement got to me and i don’t get p.o’d very often. Do have a good day 🌷🌱”] also, do you live your life without identifying and feeling emotions about plays, books, art, and music? i’d like to see you try. as you can see, unfortunately your comment made me quite angry. my husband was a writer, my parents were actors. Sesame Street is a fantasy as are Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse. maybe you didn’t mean to be so callous - if so, sorry for getting so upset. Also, i don’t mean to be callous either - that statement got to me and i don’t get p.o’d very often. Do have a good day 🌷🌱
BS The new and old testament talk often about punishment evil must be punished.
And who is to be the judge?
That was beautiful, profound. He has the time to experience life in his mind without distraction and saw the emptiness of the world.
In today's life imprisonment ,the offenders get some exercise ,fresh air for few hours ,which is their right ,mix with other prisoners if not on solitary sentence !! as a right
You forgot cable TV, basketball courts, free education, intimate partner visits, $$$$ books & movie deals from media for their salacious story, and who know what else... 😂😂
