Marching Baritone Review - Blessings Vs Yamaha Vs Bach

Marching Baritone Review - Blessings Vs Yamaha Vs Bach
Where did you get your hands on a King K30 Euph?
I'm a band director. The King Marching Euphonium is on the school's inventory.
Sounds very airy. It lacks the luscious, full tone of either my Wessex or Besson.
Wessex dolce or Sinfonico?
I've only played on the Wessex Sinfonico once, so I can't really comment on how I feel about that horn compared to this one, but I will say it's pretty unfair to compare it to a Besson. The Besson Sovereign I feel is the classic European sounding Euphonium and is an absolute joy to play on because of how free flowing it feels. The Sterling isn't no-where near as free flowing and light feeling like the Sovereign but neither is the Wilson or the Yamaha Neo. These horns are in completely different brackets ($4,200 vs $9,000+) so the Besson comparison would be better suited for a Yamaha Neo/Custom, Adams E1-E3 or a Wilson. For a Mid-tier budget horn, It definitely plays well within it's punching weight.
@@bryanonbrass6833 I play on a Besson imperial and I feel as though the tone is great too!
Makes me wonder if bcu would sound better on marching euphoniums
I personally don't think it fits. The Bellfronts allowed us to blend with Trombones as needed, really push out some volume when needed but also allowed us to have such a delicate and nuanced sound when it came to concert selections. I think some of that lightness goes away with the Marching Euphonium.
@@bryanonbrass6833yeah the Euphonium being the most open and conical, Tbones being the most cylindrical. Baritone horns are right in between providing so much versatility
HIIIIII TEACHHHHHH I AM GOING TO COME AND TAKE THAT HORN OF YOURSSSSS AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH😂😂😂😂
Beautiful case!! Very nice instrument
Definitely love the sound of the marching Euphonium. Smooth as butter. Deep as the sea.
It really does change the character and sound of an ensemble.
you seriously don’t know how long i have been searching for this video😭
I've always wondered as well why this isn't discussed more.
Great video! I'm surprised this isn't a bigger channel
Thank you! I appreciate it!
Only if I could have it😞
Former high school and drum corps euphonium player here who wants to join a community band and own my own horn. Thanks so much for this review!
For me after high Bb it just slides around that area so it’s hard to hit a note constantly
I really like Misa Mead's videos.
I have a 2280 from 1982, mine keeps the mouthpiece nice and snug. And yes, the metal valve guides are a bit noisy. Not bad though.
I had one of these. Big sound and built like a tank. The valves weren't really clunky sound wise but couldn't compare to my Besson in speed. Higher range was awesome, all the way to treble double G, using matched mouthpiece.
Man was definitely sponsored by blessing lol. I think there is a reason that drum corps uses Yamaha. Also, the overall quality of Yamaha is by far superior. Worth the extra cost.
? Blessing doesn’t even make that marching baritone anymore (they make Yamaha clones now instead of Olds clones). He was simply reviewing each instrument based off each instrument’s merits. Yamaha probably has the best currently existing range of marching instruments (including their baritone), but that’s not saying much. Most marching instruments are not made that well.
It takes standard trombone mouthpiece cause it's in the same key as a trombone
has nothing to do with the key
Você tem algum material para o flugobone para estudos
The Bach is an Olds design that they produced using their tooling. The Blessing is an original design, but smaller-bore than the Bach (.560") and the Yamaha (.571"). The Bach was produced until the 1990s, when they switched to Yamaha low brass.
Is this the 1.0 or the 2.0 version of the pTrumpet
Thanks, this helped a lot!
When I matched Baritone with the Madison Scouts in the 80's we would crunch up the horns all too often because of the difficulty of the drill. Even a small crease in the bell would cause a significant decrease in the projection of the horn and make it difficult to maintain any tone quality at higher volume levels. Big dents in the main tube also caused smooth flow issues at larger air volumes. Your Blessing had both a badly crumpled bell and huge dents in the last bend of the main tube leading to the bell section. The fact that it played as well as it did with these handicaps is a testiment to just how good that horn really was. We got pretty good at rolling out dents with drumsticks and wooden rolling pins and whatever else we could scrounge up. It didn't have to be pretty, it just had to be unkinked to make a huge difference.
This helped me make up my mind about getting a ptrumpet. General consensus is “nope”. Thanks.
For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment; (2peter2:4) - Because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead. (Acts17:31) For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. (John 3:16-17) Jesus loves you, he’s waiting for you to repent and put your faith and trust in Him :) Hope you have a good day
I have to play Greensleeves/Fantasia of the Dargason for my concert in December. Cool!
Who did that to your bell
My marching band has 11 baris
We have 4 lmao
@@codyvlogzplyspiano7592 yeah we got 5
We've got 1-
Bruhhhh
mine has 30...
You've been pranked. Some students likely did this on purpose. Little bass tids. Hopefully there isn't some rental horn out there somewhere outside of your band room with these valves instead of one of your other horns where you habe a hope of finding them. I was searching your stream for a longer-term review of the pTrumpet when I came across this video. Have a great school year and be safe with COVID. Being a band director isn't just on the front lines, you are like 50 miles behind enemy lines and on your own there. Kids blowing their sick air at you all day, oy!
Thank you! This was exactly the information that I needed.
Another RUclipsr said that the proper lubricant that you can use on those valves is plant-based oil instead of petroleum based oil
Oh wow! Thank you for making this video! I'll share it!
Thanks this was helpful ,, please get the bells rolled out , u can do it your self with a few tools not recamended i know , or find a brass guy that will do it cheaply if such a thing exsist tell him we sent U.
rolling pins. That's what my friend recommended, and indeed I just used the two rolling pins I had in the kitchen, pushing against each other, and this reduced the creases by about 90%!
Thanks for this. I'm glad I came across your video. I've been thinking about buying a horn and playing again. This gives me inspiration.
I'm still watching this video but wanted to comment that I see you have a nice collection of wii u games. I too enjoy that system
Do you go to Jackson state
Nope. I Went to Bethune-Cookman University, c/o 2016
What's the difference between a marching baritone and a normal baritone?
Marching baritones have their bells facing forward and you have to use it sort of like a trumpet whereas the standard baritone the bell is facing toward the ceiling and is played like a euphonium or tuba but sound wise there isn’t a difference
Marching
For the mouthpiece receiver: If you use a Bach-equivalent the problem will be gone. The Bach mouthpieces are nice and snug in the receiver.
very nice
Thanks mate, that was very helpful. I'm a trumpet player and also love low brass. I've been wanting a Euph, but didn't want to drop $6K or whatever. Thanks.
Hii Music fam! let's support each ohters channel! Great video!
Looking forward to the new content! ✊🏿
I have a 2280
Which one has a more open and in tune lower register, I have a Blessing Artist model but it gets reall stuffy and sharp in lower regisrer especially 23, 13 and 123 valve combinations...
are Exchange tubas manufactured by jimbao?
I don't know if they are manufactured by Jimbao specifically, but they are made in China if I'm not mistaken.
@@bryanonbrass6833 Our horns are made in China, but not with the Jimbao factory. Also, thanks for your shoutout and the kind words!
The projection problem on the blessing might be because of the crushed bell
Looks like some band member in low brass was at a football game and let the one horn fall from the top bleacher to the back parking lot???
It could use some fixing
Great video helped me decide to get mine got a new silver 2280 that was store display for 1500
There are Bach stencil horns out there. Schiller.
Great review and playing--thank you. Do you know how this new model compares to an older King 2280? Basically, if I find an old one on eBay is it as good (or better or worse) than this one? Thanks
Since age out is pretty early is it actually worth it to buy one? Edit: Second suite in F went hard
I love 2nd suite in f
Would you recommend these horns over something like the JP274 or Wessex Dolce?
FreezingGamer I’m wondering the same
Awesome Dad i cannot tell much of a difference between my jp and a Sterling virtuoso except for a small weight difference
These are my schools horns. They may be more beat up than a new one but I will say this, it's super out of tune, the valves are heavy and loud, do not buy.
I would prefer those more than the King they are both compensating and are much cheaper but are very good quality horns.
