URBEX - Abandoned Incinerator Plant
Просмотров 1916 лет назад
Come along as we visit the historic abandoned incinerator plant in Rochester, NY. Built in 1911, this plant was used to burn paper and wood waste to prevent it from going into the landfill. They were ahead of their time and even had an elaborate recycling center adjacent to it where they would pull out metals, rubber, and non-combustible materials which could be re-used. The sorting facility sa...

SBE 16 Annual Picnic & Transmitter Tour
this is so wholesome..
i need to get one of those optimods...I've seen them on ebay.
Great video thanks heaps from New Zealand, Brett
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Hands down those were the best AM transmitter sites I've ever been to.
What is the music at the beginning of the video?
"In Your Arms", available in the RUclips creator library.
@@exploreupstateny413 Not that I can find. Sounds like Glen Miller but it is not his.
Great tour of a wonderful AM transmitter site. I managed a 5kW site (2 tower day, 4 tower nite; different day and nite patterns) and they had a similar Art Deco transmitter building complete with basement. Unfortunately, the many previous owners had never put any real maintenance or upkeep to the place and it looked like the apartment area of this site. I tried to clean it up, but it was just too much. Coincidentally, I worked with a CCA Ultimate stereo console back in the late 70's. It was a workhorse and sounded great on the FM station where I worked. When they retired it, I tried to get it, but no luck. I loved watching those huge meters when on the air! Thanks for the tour. Great facility. I'm so glad someone cares enough about this station to keep the transmitter site in such great shape. By the way, I started in radio when I was 15 and am 61 now, spending about 40 years on the air. Semi-retired now only doing voiceovers.
I'm glad you enjoyed the transmitter tour. We went through several sites that day but the one which really blew my mind was the one where you could walk into the transmitter! I entered broadcast service in the summer of 1983 while still in high school. Was working as a television CE until a couple of years ago when new owners came in and started tossing people out.
a big greeting to all the engineers I send you a cordial greeting and from Miami.
really need to get rid of iboc am
It was a great place to visit and inn keeper told some great stories (off camera).
I visited here last year and have been obsessed ever since !
Wow! A Sparta AS30, the original model with the pushbutton rotary input selector on Channel 5. I not only worked at a station with one of these, but my HS station had an A15, which also had that selector!
Bun
What was the music?
Which one?
@@exploreupstateny413 at the start and at the BBQ. Hope some of these stations can keep going they are needed.
@@exploreupstateny413 At the start. I do old radios and that would be great for my workshop. My dad used to play music like this at various clubs we used to go to. He had a band etc. Loads of war time and 50's and 60's stuff like "Strangers in the night". Just reminds me of those wonderful times now sadly lost. Austin Healey's look great too. Where exactly is this station? Also how about the update if possible?
"In Your Arms"
Some really big iron. No Gates yard board?
There may have been one. I just took a quick look at the time.....
I am looking at photos of the KIRO transmitter plant taken October 2021. There appears to be rectangular panels mounted at roughly one third height on the antennas. Curious to know the function of those panels. Old school equipment = warm sound / works of art. Modern equipment = low distortion / cost efficient.
The panel is a microwave link. Regarding the old equipment, yes the sound was warm. A lot of those consoles were still in use when I started working in radio. They were bullet proof and worked well!
I'm from Northern Idaho, right by Spokane, WA. I worked as a post operative nurse at Deaconess Medical Center downtown. Now I'm disabled due to a near paralyzing spinal injury. After ten years of 7 major surgeries from the neck down, I'm finally recovered. Now I live in Bonners Ferry, ID. I love it here and the people are so friendly and kind. I've been in Northern Idaho and lived in every small town from BF to all those tiny towns in between to Coeur d'Alene. Ten town's in 43 years
We love Idaho. Our favorite place is Wallace because there's so much history there! Thanks for watching!
Cool, I’ve been trying to find history on Russell station, but it seems this one was for BeeBee station, still cool though.
It's too bad they tore down the Beebee station. It was a place that I wanted to explore.
The tiny cabin with the 'rock work' is called the Smoke House... for smoking meat.
Unfortunately, as for now, the locomotive will NOT be put back into service. It will cost over $90K to repair and the state is not willing in any way, shape or form to fix it... Sad...
I didn't know it was broken down. It was a lot of fun to take the ride between the towns. I hope that somebody will find a way to get it running again.
Was at Bowman Bay for the first time today...Im in love!!
Those old, room-size tube transmitters are a cool relic but not very economical. Poor efficiency (maybe 60% vs 88% on today's solid state AM transmitters), lots of internal noise, costly to maintain, takes up a lot of space.
All true but I will say this...….When you applied the plate voltage, there was no doubt that you were on the air! You could hear it and almost feel it. I think the old rigs had a warmer sound quality as well.
Oooh! I want that 5-channel Sparta Mixer!!!
The old transmitters contrast with the Nautel which is so futuristic. Interesting tour seeing the old and new together under one roof. I still marvel at the efficiency and low operational cost of the Nautel.
The new rigs are definitely more efficient but when you apply plate voltage to one of those old Continental 50kw monsters, there is no doubt that it's on the air! You can hear it and feel it.
SBE = Society of Broadcast Engineers
I went there today! C:
The old equipment with the tubes was just too cool
This looks so much different in the winter time. Sketchy, but really cool place to explore.
I loved checking this little place out. The overhead crane and tracks are nice reminders of its industrial past.
Thanks for watching!
Looks like this is about 10mins away from where i was. Do you know if anything is left inside?
Yes I believe there is. On the day we were there, some guy was across the street making it obvious he was watching and there was also a sketchy homeless guy knocking around inside so we didn't go in.
I`m interested in Wallace and this is a very informative video! I`m shocked it has so little views
It's truly a hidden gem! The townspeople welcomed us with open arms and it you ever get a chance to visit there, you'll be glad you did. Be sure and try the huckleberry shake.
Is this place still standing ?
Yes it is. It's a toxic waste site and nobody wants to pay to clean it up.
@@exploreupstateny413 thanks
it is now called mobil
It's not haunted, and there's nothing to hurt you unless you carelessly fall down the stairs. The local kids grow up chasing each other through those tunnels; it's all just a big playground - the perfect place to get over being scared of the dark.
ive been going there every year for a loooong time. i probably know that hill like the back of my hand. because i used to explore it when it was still all overgrown. as for ghost stories... the harbor defense command post up on artillery hill (its locked up now and turned into a museum and you can get a tour now on certain days) back when it was all overgrown and people didnt really know about it you used to beable to get in through the upper lookout. there was a staircase (now a big metal plate) and i remember my friend and i went down there, we were probably 12 at the time, and walked around and heard weird footsteps. we ignored it at first because sometimes it sounds like you are being followed in the bunkers. when we were done exploring we went to leave and we saw a wet set of footprints that didnt match our shoes. and we got the heck out of there. lol. also my cousins used to walk around in there before it was locked up and their flashlights used to die in there all the time. as far as anything else ghost story related..... i dont really have any other than that and that probably was just a person who found it too. i never had a bad experience in the bunkers. my best guess would be the houses and barracks if anything is haunted on the fort. there is stories of people dieing in those. like a highschool band member. supposedly there was a murder on the fort. in the 80s and 90's during the satanic panic people would go up there and and do weird rituals at night. some people still do supposedly although idk how true that is.. i think most people believe its haunted because its a big spooky scary looking place with some history.
Wow! Great story. The spookiest part for us was that narrow tunnel that kept twisting and turning. Check out some of the other URBEX videos on our channel. Since moving away from Washington to upstate New York, we've been having a great time. This area is loaded with great explores!
ExploreUpstateNY nice. I went to a few of the other forts in the area too and made a few videos too
I also grew up in Port Townsend and spent my summers at the bunkers. I clearly remember the command post you are talking about. We called it the radar Tower. You are correct you could enter it from above and I remember large maps on the walls and chairs and wooden doors. In a field behind that Command Post you can find for large concrete pads. One of the pads had a steel door that opened to a ladder that dropped down into a room the size of a gymnasium. It was an underground water storage tank. The door has been cemented over. Being a teenager, my buddy and I also knew that entire Hill. We checked every crack and crevice and even located a mortar shell in one of the many pipes that ran underground. I believe they were are shafts. We read a post with a slip knot and pulled this thing up from about 6 ft below ground. I threw it on my bicycle and stopped by my grandfather's house on the way home. He confiscated it from us and took it out to the fort. It was on display in the museum years later. Remember the buried locomotive found near the beach?
@@exploreupstateny413 I used to go there when I was a kiddo, I haven’t returned in 15 years. What’s the state of the fort today, did the do it in boarding everything up?
nice video :)

Interesting find!
Like the way you do things , +1 follower . I do some exploartion too but mostly old houses or commercial bildings that will be demolish and it's in Quebec and Ontario Canada
Very good and interesting video , thanks for the tour and for the explications
The door slamming was really creepy! and LOUD! I had to edit the volume down. Don't know what caused it to slam like that. Here's the back story on the kid who was so flustered he couldn't talk straight.........We were inside one of the rooms and we came to a steel door. My wife grabs the handle and shakes it up and down. We didn't know it but the poor young man was on the other side of that door reaching for the handle. When it violently started shaking, he came flying out of there and came around the corner just as we were leaving the room. He was so scared that he could hardly get two words out! We didn't have the heart to tell him it was just us.....
Glad you enjoyed it! There are more episodes coming, including spending the night in a haunted hotel.......
Great video guys, and very instructional! Love the spooky music!
Pretty neat place. :)
I've camped here A LOT, but I've never seen anything creepy. But, I once did see a shadow walk across the camp site. But their were no planes.
There aren't even any real German's who live there! It's all for money! 😄
The story goes that they had a killing frost that wiped out the apple growing industry. Someone came up with the idea of remodeling the entire town into a Bavarian village and embrace tourism. Seems like it worked!
