OK let's put it straight. This car is not entirely a 100% REAL Alpina B12 5.7. The true story came out when Alec offered it on BaT June 6, 2024. An original No 35 Alpina B12 5,7 was destroyed in a major accident and they removed all they could salvaged from it ( engine, transmission,etc,etc ) and installed those parts in a regular 850 CSi. Alec tried many times to have this car homologated by Alpina with the same production number 35 as the original crashed car...but Alpina refused, which I fully understand. He should have told it right away in this video. He does not feel comfortable describing the car, now we understand why. The selling price of $ 156 000 reflected this ...This is a regular BMW 850CSi with Alpina parts rescued from destroyed No 35 Alpina B12 5,7 . IMHO, this will affect his hard earned credibility in the future .

Gary is a friend and client, and an amazing person. Visiting his house, and garage is always an adventure.

Is this gentleman the original builder whose name is Dean, as seen on a previous video where we were allowed to watch and HEAR the car being driven? I didn't recognize him with his long Leland Sklar beard. This car is an incredible achievement. Congratulations.

I’ve had the privilege of getting to know Gary via Facebook over the last couple of years. He has to be one of the most talented, creative car guys I’ve ever met. What makes him even more impressive is his openness and willingness to share his knowledge in a way that shows the humility and thoughtfulness of the man. I just recently moved to California but while I was in Indiana I had to him that if I was ever here visiting my kids and grandchildren that I would love to stop by, maybe even help turn a wrench or 2 since I had been a mechanic during my misspent youth. He graciously offered that anytime I was in the area I should stop by. My health isn’t what it was but maybe one day I can take him up on his offer.

This is not the first 170 to be at Supercar. Mine is also sublime the same 170 and I was there months ago.

While it is true the Pope did have one of these cars (it was a 1965 and was built for Pope Paul VI) , John Paul II was actually riding in the 'popemobile' around Saint Peter's Square greeting the crowds when he was shot. It's also interesting to note that the Pope's Pullman (which John Paul II returned to Mercedes Benz in 1985) had bullet proof glass. The popemobile was totally open.
