ONE DAY: Summer Steelhead on the fly with Curtis Ciszek and Darcy Bacha
Просмотров 8172 месяца назад
Columbia river steelhead are struggling. That’s old news. They’ve been having a rough go of it for a while now. But, the numbers out of the Big C and it’s feeder rivers are especially sad this summer. Unprecedented, say some officials. Early summer counts were putting just 4,000 steelhead past the Bonneville dam. That’s down from 20,000 the previous year. There are a lot of factors to blame: da...

We need stories about the mundane things, like sandwiches. Films based on something small, and even poorly defined, but nonetheless enough to spur creativity. In fact, the stickiest memories may actually come from the small things found in the margins of each adventure. Those margins can border on the sacred in terms of providing hidden meaning; for stories, memories and elusive lessons. It’s j...

David Gravette Fly Fishing and Skateboarding in Portland - Everything is Coming Up Millhouse
my dad logged there in the 1950s, I flew in there and drift fished the upper dean in 1969
Rivers are not dying of poor management. Everything on this planet is dying because of who we are, and how we go about our life's. Sure them Skagit anglers mostly driving huge trucks, wearing gear which when you launder deposits plastic particles in all of us.. including steelhead. You get the picture. It's an illusion to believe you can manage an environment while abusive care takes( all of us) are rampant. Putting a hook into another beings mouth to enjoy the fight is one of the most abusive undertakings imaginable. I used to flyfish for sea run cutthroats from the beach with a fly rig and made a killing. And then one day after I hooked a fish I saw this other trout follow my catch to the beach, acting all concerned about her struggling family member. And something stated to shift in me and I gave it all up. You can't call yourself a conservationist and pretend hooking fish in the mouth for sport is tolerable. You really want to make a difference? Leave them fish alone😮
Love it.
Really good stuff here! Thanks for this.
wow, really fires you up to get on your own adventures. Beautifully captured.
Awesome!
Really Incredible editing
Have you ever thought about the negative impact that is guaranteed to happen by xploiting this hyper-fragile ecosystem that has remained as it should because of its geographic intensity and difficulty.....basically to the world....and as i presumed...you guys are finding garbage and the like already in a place ive almost never have seen traces of human impact😢....thanx for not disclosing the names of lakes at least....maybe just say the high sierrA and give the east side a few more years before it becomes overfished and trampled by certain cultures that will endanger and destroy any fish habitat they're given access to.....in a matter months
Two years later fish dying all over the river
Awesome video!
Thanks!
Best place on the planet. Let’s take care of it.
Wow
Not a fisherman but this is dope.
I can’t tell if I’m here for the fishing, or skateboarding.
Solid content
That’s a beautiful catch!
Great feature with Kayla! I love fishing with my pup!
Love this video! Makes me want to jump on a bike and explore new waters!
Is gravette sponsored by orvis?
"The invasives haven't found it yet, but you did" He means tourists lol
Man i always wanted to go fish up there but i can never get anyone to go and im to afraid to go alone lol looks amazing
so very fortunate to be in that EXACT area two summers ago. Spectacular scenery AND GREAT fishing! I "stuck" one of the largest trout I've ever seen on a float trip. As it swam away I was swearing up a storm. 🤣 Humongous Bull.
Don't you know. Now you know. Ehh!
Stunning film. Beautiful fish.
Very nicely done THANK YOU
what a beautiful run.Check out our flies . cheers
Awesome to see a fly fishing film shot on Super 8 mm film. Love the colours. I keep thinking I want to do a short film fishing for cutthroat trout in the summer in the Rockies. So much nostalgia in my mind.
How did we ever catch steelhead on single handed rods? Oh yeah. We learned how to properly cast
If you can’t learn to fly cast properly, no worries. Just get a Spey rod.
Are you saying the only reason a person would choose to use a Spey rod is because they can’t properly cast a single hand rod?
As a new WA local and fly fisherman, I did not know this happened and is very sad. Thank you for telling us the story that are unaware.
Well that was before the killed everything in the Klamath River. Its a toxic sewer now. I don't see anyone catching a single fish In the River for Decades. 😢
Here you are again.
Nice work on this... feelin the chill fishy vibes!
yikes
Copi!!!!!
That fish looks so beautiful
Makes me want to fish! And the smallie jumping for Drew was insane!! Great job Mike!!
Killer!
Sick shit
Sick vid Copi.
I love fly fishing but my favorite parts of these patagonia fly fishing programs is where the fisherman start to cope with the fact that spey fishing produces very few fish😂. "Trying to catch a bunch of fish is backwards"😂. Happens in every one of these! Again I love fly fishing but I am not going to call conventional fisherman backwards because they dont want to swing around a $4,000 stick in the cold all day and maybe catch a single fish. Thats probably a good thing though becuase steelhead are more likely to die if they are caught on fly gear due to exhaustion anyways. I wish them luck though, but if you are going to fish with a method that is more likely to kill your catch, maybe you should be more supportive of broodstock programs to help put more fish in the river so you arent killing any of the few remaining wild fish as often. Cheers and tight lines!
From the UK -what lovely footage-and what a river; that said, I think we -as the fishers and the people who care most about 'our' rivers'-are too quick to accept blame for reduced numbers; in the UK a madness -like the preservation by law of seals in every worthwhile salmon river estuary-prevails. We need to organise and say-'No-I wont spend money on your permits until you get a grip'. Otherwise-well, casting is quite fun.
Excellent in all ways. More! Please.
More copi vids please
I second this. 🤘🏽
10 of a 10. Awesome video!
Poetic ❤ love it 🎣
Thanks for sharing 🙏
