The Berkeley Discovery Initiative is a campus-wide effort to transform undergraduate education. More than a single discrete experience or one-semester capstone project, Discovery is an intentional and holistic arc that supports all students on a journey of engaged creativity and self-actualization. We support this goal through a range of programming and resources for students, faculty, and staff which foster student creative agency and participation in immersive hand-on projects as researchers, community leaders, artists, and entrepreneurs. Discovery Trailblazers Integrative Biology
In 2021, the Berkeley Discovery Initiative awarded six teams of faculty and staff multi-year Departmental Innovation Grants to expand high-impact practices and experiential learning in and beyond the classroom. The hallmark of a Berkeley undergraduate education is to combine exceptional and innovative classroom learning with hands-on, immersive experiences. The Trailblazer video series features the impact of these grants.
