Snippets of my Curly Hair Journey live here. Having been natural my whole life, there was no rhyme nor reason to how I managed my hair, having grown up in Spain, a world not tailored for girls with textured hair, and having been raised by a family of non-curlies who had no clue what to do with my hair. Even when I thought I had it all figured out, I realize now that I didn't.
My hair was badly damaged last year, in 2019. That is where this journey begins. Some videos are filmed with that damage because it is, essentially, a part of my journey. A "good" hair day on damaged hair is a devastating one still when compared to what my hair used to be. But I decided to document it on the off chance that anyone living through something similar might stumble upon this and, perhaps, find a snippet of hope.
I big chopped July 13. I WILL be growing my hair out. Let’s see where this goes. Welcome.

Your hair is absolutely gorgeous...
Your hair is gorgeous
Va va volume 🎉
i heard the toebox on suregrip boardwalks were wider and roomier than the moxi lolly, BUT.... that the boardwalks were hurting some people's feet. and though heels are good for rhythmic/dance skating (vs flats for jam/breakdancing and skateparks) that some people's feet couldn't handle the heel and it would hurt them over time.
NOTE: (primer on bearings, wheels, trucks) ABEC 3, 5, 7, etc is supposed to be the amount of spin and stuff but it's an industrial standard that doesn't totally translate when the *bearings* are used in things like skates and skateboards. the *WHEELS* have different HARDNESS, going up to 100a (where you only want really smooth surfaces). generally street wheels that can absorb a lot of roughness will be 73+. some people will skate in the 90s but for really rough you'll see 73a-85/87a as common. this is for skateboards, quad skates, and inlines. a WIDER wheel with more contact with the ground will be more stable. a flat shape also being more stable vs curved wheels. a TALLER wheel such as 53 vs 57+mm will also eat up rough roads better generally. and don't wear down as fast. you can roll farther on a push. now, better bearings that spin faster and will let wheels spin longer might feel more uncontrolled for some people. bad bearings or really cheap crumby bearings, you spin the wheel on your skate or board and it will stop after a few revolutions vs spinning over a minute. bearings are easy enough to change out. they fit into your wheel and you just pop 'em out. *trucks* can make a huge difference to people and what feels good, stable, responsible to them. (the metal part your wheels attach to that help you turn and stuff). tightening or losening them also has an effect. loose generally means it takes smaller effort to make changes, tighter means you have to do more, but beginners often like that because they aren't ready for nuance and this feels more controlled. tighter will also be more stable for straight shots skating. *wheelbase* or the amount of distance between your trucks can also affect your sense of stability and control. it's funny how all of this totally translates between skateboards and quad skates. inlines, the wheels and bearings stuff is the same but there is a rail instead of trucks. also of note is that the *bushings* which are the sort of rubbery plasticy thing in the middle of the trucks that is like the cartilage for the truck, like how we have cartilage in our joints.... i keep seeing them referred to as *"cushions"* with skates. not sure if this is a widespread oops, where someone misheard it, or the rollerskate industry decided to use a different term. bushing is the technical term.
The scent is so gross.
Just gorgeous
waaaaa i'm looking for them too, where can i find them in 7 😢😢

I heard you say you’re in Seattle and so am I! I’m researching wheels and wondering if you’ve skated at Lynwood rink and if you found these sticky at that rink?
I'm in the Bay Area but I travel to Seattle often on and off. And yes indeed, I have skated at Lynwood! Back when I used these, they were great there. The key is to wear them in a bit because when they are brand new they have more grip to them than after wearing them in for a bit. That's when the slide kicks in and that crazy grip from when they were new wore off. A lot depends on what you like and are used to. Back then, I had been used to softer, grippier wheels and so 95a was perfect for me. I am now on 98a Rollerbones and have also used those at Lynwood and they were awesome. I also use my 98a's outside and in most surfaces (skating at airports and all the different floors you find there 😂) and my personal preference lies there now. But I think you should be fine with 95a's at Lynwood though at rinks where they also cater to artistic skaters (and therefore make the floor grippier for them) it'll be an issue. I skated at such a rink in Sacramento and could barely function in my 98a's but, luckily, that's not a problem at Lynwood. BUT if you ARE comfortable with a range of durometers, then I'd definitely recommend Rollerbones 98a's over these wheels. I hope this helps!
@@MizBoheMiathanks for the detailed reply! I went to Lynwood last night and skated on my moxi Lolly with the stock gummy’s and that’s literally the only ones I have skated on since I was a kid so I’m trying to research what wheels I want for rink skating. I was worried they would be too grippy but I was pretty comfortable on them. They were broken in outside so maybe that helped a little bit. I may not have minded the grip though cause I’m not like an artistic skater so the most advanced skill I have is crossovers, haha! One thing that did bother me about the gummy wheels is how wide they are so I definitely want a new wheel for indoors. And I think I need to clean my bearings, I seemed to lose speed pretty quickly once I stopped pumping, and I do like to skate fast. Thanks for the recommendations, I’m going to look into the ones you mentioned!
@@CryTides My pleasure! Ok, if you are used to the gummys, then jumping straight to something in the 90s might be too much. I’d recommend the Radar Crush seafoam ones. They’re 88a so have good slide and grip, especially when you’re transitioning up the durometer scale. The lilac ones (84a) are good too but not too, too different so if I’d have to pick one over the other, I’d go with the 88a’s. Only big adjustment there is that these wheels are 48mm as opposed to the gigantic size of the Moxi gummy wheels (65mm) but they do give you more control and are amazing wheels (also have reviews on them up). Once you get used to those, then I think going up to the Sure Grips or Rollerbones (my faves) is easier. Then it’ll be a slight adjustment to wheel size again since those are 57mm, but that’s a great standard size and I’ve found that I like to stick to that size in this current stage of my skate journey. A lot of my fellow skaters stick to either 57mm or 48mm sized wheels and when they want to go up in durometer but stay with small wheels, they have skate shops shave the wheels down for them to 48mm.
Hello beautiful! The links you have here are no longer working. Update? Thank you. I want to try these products
Hi lovely! First and foremost, thank you for bearing with me. I did receive your email and am behind on EVERYTHING these days! One thing to note with Soultanicals... when they don't have the product in their selection at the moment, the links are taken down. When they are back in stock, they are back up. But they do have an incredible assortment of leave-ins, oils and more to choose from. However, their three creams - Fluffalicious Curl Nutricious, Marulu Muru Moisture Guru and Marula Melon Moisture Guru - don't seem to be available (or at least, last I checked). If you want to try the LOC method, you might have to simply skip the cream or go back in with a bit of leave-in again for that step and then follow it all with a styler. Hair is not a one size fits all, I'm afraid, so what works for me might not work for you. The LOC method is a great starting off point and then you have to listen to your hair and tailor your approach based on what your hair is telling you. Hope this helps!
Hi! Did you get the gel too? If so have you used it?
I did! Sorry for my delayed reply! I am super behind on everything. But JUST posted that video!
I love that mask as well ❤your hair has grown so much, you've got beautiful results😊
Thank you so much! And yes, this mask is seriously amazing! I can't get enough of this line. Glad you loved it too!
This looks great! Wow! I’m wondering do you think we should try this on our scratched up leather chairs? It would be our last stitch effort before throwing them out…
@@michelledepasse4309 Thank you! I’d say no cause there are better techniques for furniture out there. This video is one I saved a few years back. But do a search on RUclips along these lines and you should find a few that resonate with you. Hope this helps and if you try one that works you’ll have to let me know! ❤️ ruclips.net/video/BwiP6zbCblc/видео.htmlsi=JUkNZRhAMqinc3ju
Thank you, my surgery is next week! Your video was very informative and made me feel much better about having my my pisiform extraction. Best to you! Jenni
Thank you so much for your kind words and forgive me the belated reply! How are you doing now, post surgery? How did it all pan out for you? Hoping all is fabulous with you!
How did yours go😨 I may have to get mines off…
Your hair looks gorgeous ❤
Thank you so much! No longer looks like it did here but it's much appreciated! 🥰
👍🏾😎 🏴🇸🇪🇹🇹
❤️❤️❤️
do you still use it? how are you doing with your scalp?
No. As stated in the video, not really for me. And it was as a prepoo, not for my scalp. Coconut oil is not one recommended for the scalp and you want to ensure you properly rinse your scalp so as to avoid clogging your follicles.
Lovely 😍🇲🇦
Thank you
I’ve seen a TON of curly hair videos over the years and I have to say that your results in this video are hands down, theee best I’ve seen 💯👏👍. Great job!
You are too kind, thank you so much! I give credit a) to Soultanicals and b) to the LOC method, which works wonders for me. However, I've tried the LOC method with so many other brands and it was meh, but Soultanicals? Forever magical!
Super pretty!
Thank you so much! ❤️
New subscriber here. Ok, so I’m enjoying your videos and binge watching. I’m contemplating revisiting Soultanicals. Your curls are amazing!!!
Thank you! I so appreciate your lovely comments and the follow! And YESSSS on Soultanicals! This brand is beyond magical! I think the main thing is to figure out how best to cater to one's particular hair porosity/texture combo/needs etc... finding that sweet spot.
🩵
Hey beautiful! ❤️
You are gorgeous! Love your hair.
Thank you so much! I'm no longer a bimbo blonde but hopefully the hair is still slaying. 😉🤪❤️
Is this released yet?
I got it in the Knot In Hair Emergency Kit (a Soultanicals bundle). Not sure if they did, or will, sell it individually but with Soultanicals their products flow in and flow out and keep making grand appearances so definitely keep an eye out!
I just got boardwalks and if my lean back at all I start cartoon slipping everywhere
Man, so sorry to hear! There's something definitely off with that setup and I don't quite know what but it didn't work for me AT ALL. If there is any chance you can exchange them, I highly recommend the Lollys! Though at the time of filming they were much closer in pricing than they are now but you can still score them at a decent price by getting the Blems (more info here: www.empireskateshop.com/products/moxi-lolly-skates-pool-blue-closeout?variant=44000887275752)
I love your hair
Thank you so much!
Hi Miz, thank you for your videos, I’ve found them super helpful. I am potentially getting a pisiformectomy in June, as my Pisiform was dislocated in an injury and can’t be put back in place. I wanted to ask you, in your hand where you are a year post - op, are you able to move it in a full range of motion pain free?
I am! I have no issues with the hand whatsoever. I just haven't been able to test it out for yoga but, beyond that, no issues. My bed is a Murphy bed, and it's quite heavy to close and open, and I use both hands without any issues (and my recent surgery was only 3 months ago). I highly recommend the surgery. Both of my experiences were amazing and pretty much identical when it comes to the results. However, I am not aware of your full situation and what the dislocation of the pisiform bone entails, if anything else was damaged in your hand etc. so it's best to ask your doctor any and all questions you might have. But if there is no healing, no way to put it back, what other choice is there? Sending all the healing vibes I can muster and wishing you an easy journey with your hand!
Your beauty is breath taking 😊
You are too kind, thank you ❤️🙏🏽
Very informative and cute! Also, I love your kitty. What’s his name? ☺️
Thank you so much! His name is Ziggy. ❤️
@@MizBoheMia Cute! 🥰
@@jilliandreams Thanks!
thanks !! I was looking for a detailed review on this product. Glad I've found your video. Very nice to see with the before/after 360 footage . Very helpful !! However I do think it did some toning on your hair, yes subtle but present. And combine with it's bonding and reparing effects I personally think it's a good mask to use weekly
Glad that in spite of it not really working for my hair it helped you gauge whether it would work for yours! The toning issues aside, nothing about the mask worked for me at all. My go to, cannot rave about it enough brand is Soultanicals so much so that I have SOOOO much Soultanicals products to work my way through I don't have time to test anything else. 😂 I feel that if this worked for you you will have a wider range of products that should work for you as well (which is always the dream). Sending love from the Bay!
@@MizBoheMia Hey !! thanks for your reply. Actually I've just watch your review on K18 and that's the product I need ;) Your full test on 6 weeks had convinced me !! By the way, about toning product, have you ever tried the mask "Nutri Color" by Revlon (specially the 1002 or 1022 for you ) ? I've seen great feedbacks, about the toning and the nutrition/conditioning effects. I can' t wait to bleach and dye my hair and use theses products. PS : your hair color is DIVINE !! so classy and unique. Love it :)
Thank you so much on all counts! I am sure k18 will be a great help! As for my hair color, it's all gray now so if that's the one you are referring to, thank you! 😉❤️ And no to Revlon. It's an animal testing company so I've never used anything by them but I'm glad you've found what works for you!
I’ve seen a few reviews and the difference seem to be the where the wheels are on the plate. The back wheels are more forward on the sure grips
I have since given my Suregrips away so I no longer have them here to test that out though I did, on different occasions, hold them up side by side, wheels to wheels and I don't think I noticed different like that. BUT, oftentimes even a subtle difference like that can definitely affect where the lean is. I talked to the owner of a local skate shop who mounts plates unto skates and asked her about it and she said that there are many factors involved from the plate size not being right for the boot (though these came with the plates) or sometimes something as subtle as the location of the plate not being in the right spot. But if I cross paths with some Suregrip Boardwalks again I'll try to check out the plate and wheel locations for sure! Thanks for letting me know!
@@MizBoheMia thank you for the video, there are less reviewer videos to compare skates and I find them really helpful.
My pleasure! Glad it was helpful! ❤️🙏🏽
This video made me feel so much better. The soufflé is terrible on my hair and leaves it so frizzy and STRINGY. You should see pictures, it’s BAD. And then I even tried one of the styling creams and it just feels like it leaves a film on my hair that makes me want to wash by day 2. I just don’t get it. I don’t think these products are for me either 🙃
I also legit felt like my hair feels thinner. It’s weird and awful.
Girl, I sooooo feel you!!! That brand makes NOOOOO sense to me AT ALL! At another point, before chronicling my journey on RUclips, I had tried a whole set of their products and it was a DISASTER! I thought it might have been because of how damaged my hair was so I thought I'd give one product a try here since my hair was doing better but, no. NEVER AGAIN. I do NOT see the appeal AT ALL!
Wait what? Did i miss this launch? Never heard of this DC!
They sold it last year in summer during National Pineapple Day with their Pineapple Collection. Not sure if they've ever sold it solo before? Honestly, products come and go so fast sometimes on Soultanicals I just nab them when I can. Smells SOOO delicious!
I LOVE LOVE those earrings, suits you so good. And your hair WOW❤ 9:00
You are too kind! Thank you so much! And oh the hair! Not blonde anymore! Nor short! I let it grow out gray and it's much longer and healthier now but I appreciate the kind words! I LOVED it while I had it and now it looks so odd to me when I look back on it! 🤪
Thank you for this thorough review. I have been confused about which of these two skates to get. Now I am thinking that maybe the Lollys are the right ones for me too! And yes, they are so cute! 😊
Glad to be of help! You'll have to let me know how you like your Lollys! I have three now and LOVE them ALL! 🤪
@@MizBoheMia I actually purchased Sure Grip Boardwalk (lavender) skates because they are marked down now. I think Sure Grip has a newer model. I wanted to watch my budget on my first pair after many years of not skating. They are working out so far. I think the Lollys are in my future though!
So glad to hear they're working for you! As for Lolly's, keep an eye out on FB marketplace. Sometimes you can find them new or almost new at a better price!
Beautiful hair
Thank you so much!
worked great on me🎉
So glad to hear!
Thank you! I am most likely going to need a pistiformectomy in a few weeks because it is causing very painful tendonitis and I have been so nervous about what recovery is like because working out is now a big part of my routine. There is so few information online about it! So this is so informative
So glad it’s helped! I’m actually one month and two days post op from doing one on my right hand! The pain started to catch up on me there and I was apprehensive about it being my dominant hand and it’s been so good! No regrets! Filming this experience too but it’ll be up in some months. Sending much love and healing vibes! You’ll be on the other side of it in no time! ❤️❤️❤️
I am 6 days out from surgery. The pain, burning, and itching sucks but I am trying to get through it. Returned to work today because I can type, but my forearm hurts from typing. I'll get through it though! I've had more pain today than the first few days after the nerve block wore off. My sister is a physical therapist and says it is only because I'm using my hand. My diagnosis ended up being bursitis and mild arthritis. I am glad you don't regret it and are doing well with the second!
Aaah! So sorry to hear that you are feeling pain, burning and itching! I wonder if having the extra elements of bursitis and arthritis affects that. For me it was purely an issue of an injured pisiform bone (which they label pisotriquetral arthritis) so I didn't feel horrible pain or burning etc. It WAS helpful that on day 6 the first time around, and day 8 this past surgery, they took the splint off (though usually they do it at the two week mark I think). That gave me so much relief! Hoping you get to that point soon! Sending all the healing vibes I can muster!
@@kellylendid your bursitis and arthritis show on an MRI before you decided to have surgery?

just use okra gel or flax seed gel.
Yeah, no.
Your hair grew so much
It has! And this video is from a few months back. It's a bit longer now!
Coming from a hairdresser to you… Your hair looks amazing keep it up ❤
I really appreciate it, thank you so much! 🥰❤❤❤
I don’t have this one I love the Moroccan milk
I thought I replied cause I was gonna say that that was my next video but then posted it and realized I never replied. 🙄😂 I LOOOOVE the Moroccan Milk! CANNOT get enough of the scent! My favorite one ever!
I prefer this Knot Sauce to the original. I think it has more moisture protein balance and I like the spa like scent. It detangles like a dream too. What new winter products are you picking up by Soultanicals?
I am trying to hold off for a minute. I literally have a mini fridge full of products I have yet to try! 😂 I go in for my second hand surgery Monday (which is why I recently got a braidout) so using that as an excuse to not shop for now. I HAD purchased two of the Magical Molasses Deep Constructors in salon size and was dying for them to get here (cannot get enough of the scent and how well it works for me) but they refunded me because they had oversold. That was my biggest gift to self and I'm so bummed it's not coming! Summer or winter, my hair laps it up! How about you? What's on your must have list?
