A vast majority of harmonium players are proud to have an assortment of well-tuned harmoniums for each swar (i.e. pitch), (at least the popularly used 6-7 pitches), and to maintain them well and play them whenever required. Though not an easy job, we do it for the purity of our traditional art music. It is unnecessary to comment upon it adversely for no apparent reason, and pass rhetoric remarks on the instrument. In reality, the someone studies this topic in depth and gets the essence of it, his/her appreciation towards harmonium players will in fact increase, by understanding what it really takes for a performing artist to have excellent tuned harmoniums.

Knowledgeable viewers may kindly note that the slide displayed at 46:25 has (inadvertent) errors in it. (1) 7th harmonic is mentioned as 32/9 which should be 7/4. (2) 10.5th harmonic (i.e. half of 21th harmonic) is mentioned as 64/27 which should be 21/16 (3) 14th harmonic is mentioned as 64/9 which is wrong due to 7th harmonic also being wrong by the same logic. The relevant researchers may kindly address this.

When the term "gandhar tuning" is used, it is used to indicate that the "natural (swayambhoo) gandhar ratio i.e. 5/4" is taken into consideration to tune ALL THE NOTES in the octave in that relevance. - This is how gandhar tuning is supposed to be. I respectfully disagree with Dr. Dravid, when he says that "Only the sur "Gandhar" is tuned properly in a gandhar-tuned harmonium. It's misleading and damaging for the instrument, and for the entire music fraternity as well.

It's unfortunate that discourses of Swar-Shruti etc. topics lalways seems to include a sub-plot of berating the harmonium with vague comments. The music has already grown out of this, harmoniums have evolved and come a long way ahead. Today some of the exceptionally well tuned harmoniums are regularly played in Maharashtra (more so in Pune Mumbai Nashik etc.). If tunefulness is the only criterion, someone playing out-of-tune music on so-called "traditionally indian" instruments should be a bigger pain point than someone using well tuned harmoniums. (It's a request to anyone who reads this, to kindly not comment/respond on this unless you fully understand the technicalities and musical implications of this subject to save mutual headache, thank you.)

Elections should be fought on issues of jobs, health, education founded on scientific outlook. Why not introduce this concept and constitutional values right from schools? No govt or political party has made an attempt to do this except in the early years may be during Nehru's times. If indian youth gets educated in the true sense only then we as a society will progress.
