Model Railroading and Railfanning in California.
USG Narrow Gauge Railroad - Alco DL-535E - Chasing and Pacing
In February of 2024, I finally had the opportunity to railfan the Plastery City Narrow Gauge with a friend. Gloomy weather and a 5:30pm sundown time didn’t prove to be too helpful, but nonetheless it was a great trip and I look forward to trying again.
Here are clips of the crews finalizing the outbound train, chasing it to the mine and back, as well as some limited loading/unloading. Look forward to another video in the future of WATCO operations on the standard gauge side, to interchange with Union Pacific. Thanks as always.

ex-BHP SD70ACE, MRL 4316 switches BNSF San Diego Yard solo
Просмотров 14 тыс.Месяц назад
On November 7th, 2024 - One of MRL’s ex-BHP SD70ACE, #4316 works on its own to sort out bad orders and build that nights outbound Daygo. Quite a treat to see under new BNSF ownership, where it’s PTC is not compatible. Here’s roughly 10 minutes worth of clips of an event that took place for almost an hour.
HO scale COASTER action - NCTD (Rapido Bombardier Cars)

Welcome back! It’s been a while since I’ve made a video, so here are the new Rapido Bi-Level Commuter Cars! I picked up both 3 packs that Rapido offered, to pair with my existing Athearn cars (I see no reason to get rid of them). The models are great out of the box, only one car gave me issues and it was fixed by simply adjusting a screw and one wheel sets gauge. After the 30 second repair job,...
SP 3709 First Public Test Run - 1/20/2024 - PSRM

On January 20th, 2024, the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum operated Southern Pacific low nose GP9 #3709 on its first public train since arriving at Campo, nearly a decade ago! This was a huge milestone for volunteers at the museum, who spent the last year readying the locomotive for this moment! Enjoy and expect more in the future.

HOn3 Galloping Goose - Rio Grande Southern No. 5

A Concor HOn3 Galloping Goose gets to stretch its legs for the first time. I recently acquired this model from a close friend that decided it didn’t fit his modeling, he previously installed a Tsunami 2 decoder, but it never got to see a layout. Check out my previous video, for clips from the Narrow Gauge Op session when I took these as well.

Enjoy some videos I took recently at the Fall 2023 Narrow Gauge ops. Included are some peoples personal trains, my own Goose I’m in the process of acquiring and a few club trains. More to come on the Goose.
ex PanAm, MEC 7627 - CSX 9280 C40-8 (Standard Cab Dash 8) On BNSF along the Pacific Ocean
Просмотров 618Год назад
In early 2023, nearly a year after CSX acquired PanAm Railways, a standard cab dash 8 made its way to San Diego. Here are a couple short clips I managed to capture with short notice of this daylight run. Also worth noting is ex ATSF 666 which was renumbered to 599 and later rebuilt to a AC44C4M, one of 25 built.
HO Scale Military Train

Here are a few clips of my WIP military train, making some rounds on the layout. Most of the vehicles are kits by ROCO or Trident, constructed and painted by my friend out of state. Rail car weathering and vehicle tie downs were done by me. As I mentioned this is a WIP, I look forward to adding more in the future as time allows.

Leading a mixed freight train, SP 4292 gets a helping hand in the rear from SP 4100. Although the layout doesn’t directly depict Donner Pass, it does however go into Reno, NV. So with some modelers imagination and captioning, this can appear like a train over the Sierra’s in the early 1950’s as they meet a westbound train of empties powered by four EMD F7’s.
Train Action on Cajon Pass

In March of 2023, my friend visited from out of state and wanted to see some trains. With the Great Train Show scheduled in Victorville, it made a perfect weekend to visit Cajon Pass and check out the train show. There was lots of trains and a good amount of NS power, enjoy.
BNSF along the Surfline - HO Scale

I was given the opportunity to run some of my model trains at a private layout in the LA Basin area. Seen here is a Daygo heading along the coast down to San Diego, with a detour starting in LA… all models pictured are mine and weathered/detailed by myself. Intro: BNSF local power crosses a bridge in the PNW. Closing: New demonstrator Tier 4 leads a BNSF earth worm along the LA River. Thank you...

On May 6 & 7th 2023, the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum (@psrmrailway), Stone Store Museum, Camp Lockett and the Motor Transport Museum held Campo Days. Seen leading the train on both days is the museum’s newest acquisition, retired Coaster locomotive, 2103 a F40PHM-2C. Which has been disabled due to the State of California emissions control and NCTD. However, it can be used as a NPCU (Non-Po...

Does BNSF have a big presence in San Diego?
Soon to be patched to BNSF number
No PTC and the BNSF pretty much said any Non-Iso cab ACe is trail only Do not Occupy. so really not a common occurance at all.
A lot of locomotive for yard work would better being out on the road
Great video
So she’s from Australia?
Yep she is
2 horns lol
Nice on Donovan!
Why does mrl SD70ACe have a second train horn
How long til those MRLs get repainted?
Hopefully never!
@@dash456789but they have to be patched to BNSF number
How’s Coos bay #11 going?
#ACEpride
Hey I know where those cars came from! 😅
Nice Captures
Nice Coverage
excellent maneuvers, very good👌
Is this some kind of not-much-horn zone? They blow the horn every time they enter the road, but never the standard pattern.
@@beeble2003 lazy yard crews
jeez the double horn is nutty
ex BHP, they do it in australia for some reason
Southern railway would also do that
Front AND rear facing horns? Jeeze
It is weird seeing an SD70ACe used as a switcher. An SD40 I could understand.
#4316 is one of the ex BHP Australian SD70ACes if I recall correctly. I may be wrong.
As the video title says (or maybe that was added after you commented).
Wait, this engine is from Australia?
@@infaredxkingz8786 Built in the US for BHP in Australia, then re-imported back to the US. As I recall, a few SD50s also came to US shortlines via Australia.
Cool video well done!
@@workinghardusa thank you😊
MRL's paint scheme is a solid top fav.
I knew we would start seeing those beautiful MRL SD70Aces's around the South Land. 'bout time they had a chance to enjoy some warmth and sunshine!
interesting use of a mainline locomotive
With the size of the trains that are being made up now, an SD 70 is likely the smallest "switcher" that you need to use.
Actually, an SD70ACE has slightly lower tractive effort than a pair of SD40-2s, which would be a pretty standard switching setup.
4316 is lucky! It gets to miss the cold Montana winters and hang out in San Diego. Wish I could do the same! LOL Great Video, thanks for sharing. Plate C
Wow what a catch! Not every day you see that!
I'm curious. Does this affect the loco considering it wasn't made for switching?
Nope. EMD built its last switcher 40 years ago, and I can't think of any ohers that have been built since then in any numbers, except the disastrous gensets. The Class 1s haven't owned significant numbers of switchers for at least a decade. Everyone switches with road locomotives, these days.
The double horn!
Wow.... From the beautiful mountains of Montana to............ This.
BIG switcher!
Cool video nice to see something new in SD and not only this BNSF locos
Thay unit gets around! I saw it a few weeks ago on Norfolk Southern on the BNSF Atlanta to LA run through train.
@@ravenhawk6910 wow!
How the mighty are fallen 😕
How th. Does 4316 have 2 horns
I never knew i needed a SD70ACE with a K5LAR24 on it 👌💯
The locomotive has 2 K5LAs
Big horsepower for switching
Is all that ethanol used for local gasoline formulation to California standards?
Per the hazmat placards, three of the six tanks that come past the camera from 3:10 are carrying diesel, but whatever...
the back-to-back K5LLA's goes hard!
What’s the purpose of the water car
Worked on that unit many times on the helpers. Miss MRL
Ha… I commissioned that new unit in Port Hedland back in 2007? Great to see it still in service, albeit de-modified.
@@andrewhawk2642What mods were on this engine originally?
@@mr.sir.The BHP units had many extras including dual air conditioners, mid rails on the walkway handrails, illuminated number boards on both ends, dual horns, stone guards on the front windows ( only used when in DP), ATP, fire suppression system etc. I believe most of this was removed when it was bought by MRL. The remaining BHP units returned to the USA were stripped down to parts by Progress Rail.
As a long time San Diego resident and CA native it is great to see this action. Thank You.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow! BHP!? What a long way. Awesome video!
Export, and re-imported
Waiting for MRL units to show up patched
5,000hp to move some cars around. 😂
Must've been short on Switchers 😅
Yeah they take good locomotives and turn them into the razor blades
Not at all, yard crews just wanted to have fun lol
What a beautiful BRUTE!
Great video! Come see lucastrainverse!
