Aquatics Center set to open at YMCA of Washington County
A ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house that attracted hundreds of visitors to the YMCA of Washington County on Dec. 10, 2024, marked the completion of a 20-year effort to provide upgrades facilities to patrons of the YMCA in Washington, Iowa. Design-Build contractor Carl A. Nelson & Company's project manager, Tad Morrow, thanked the community who supported the job, and the contractors and suppliers who worked on it.

Nelson & Company joined local and state elected officials, and leaders and staff of Community Health Centers of Southeastern Iowa, in November 2024 to celebrate completion of an integrated medical and behavioral health expansion of the existing dental clinic in Keokuk, Iowa. Our team was Construction Manager at-Risk on the original building and the expansion.

Carl A. Nelson & Company team members were joined Oct. 15, 2024, by Cedar Falls Mayor Danny Laudick and the Grow Cedar Valley Ambassadors, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the firm's move into new, permanent quarters in Cedar Falls. The firm had leased space since first opening a Cedar Valley office in 2008 with one person, and moving several times as the team has grown.

A former teacher and student from Washington Elementary School banded together recently to save a tree, planted on Earth Day, at the former school site that soon will become the location of Des Monies County Public Health's new clinic facility in Burlington, Iowa. Heavy-lift crane sets roof panels for YMCA Aquatics addition

On a design-build project to construct an Aquatics Center addition for the YMCA of Washington County, in Washington, Iowa, Carl A. Nelson & Company employed a 240-ton, crawler-style crane to hoist 18 pre-cast double-T roof panels and set them into grooves in the pre-cast wall panels. Each panel weighed 56,500 pounds and was 80 feet long. The $8 million project will open in 2024.

A ceremonial kickoff to the start of construction of Des Moines County's new Public Health building in Burlington, Iowa, was conducted Sept. 19, 2023, with county officials, employees, and Ambassadors from the Burlington Chamber of Commerce looking on. The 8,000 SF clinic building will improve access and services compared to the current hilltop facility in downtown Burlington.
