    Only the Pelagic is a true Explorer sail boat. All the rest have varying weaknesses that make them dangerous in high latitude big seas (electric motors a joke for long distance, in mast furling dangerous in a big blow, dagger board with bulb dangerous when grounded, catamaran unsafe in ice, etc.). Real Explorer boats are one offs... simple rigs, keels that can take grounding, extra thick metal hulls, no fancy systems to breakdown when you are a thousand miles or more from the nearest help... Explorer boats that don't sail well unless it's blowing hard... so not good in the tropics.

    Kraken 50 outshines all of these 6. Exposed rudders in ocean cruisers is a risk not worth taking! For these prices, having a double unprotected rudder is like throwing good money after bad.

    I love both, but Amel has my vote, love central cockpit, engine room is just genius, watch space at saloon and the huge chart table. The deck is very safe with solid bar ramp. 3 (or 4?) watertight compartments. All technical affairs in one sole engine room! Easy to maintain also in regard to fake teak molded on deck with lasts forever! finally 2 to 300k less expensive then the oyster even with optional carbon mast (which I would not recommend due to low ROI). It's an Amel!

    I see why you have crazy faces between each boat. It is because you are crazy! How many people will buy a sailboat priced between $800,000.00 and $1.5 million? More power to them but that is not even 1% of the population.

    Great format. I still a Monohull all the way as one does not have to keep a keen eye of weather and look over their shoulder constantly for when to reef. Plus monohull have a, at least heavy displacement designs, more heavy lay up of fiberglass where Cats have minimum lay up in their of glass. That in it safety is a safety attribute for monohulls. Not to mention a true voyaging monohull has a integral keel and well supported rudder with a strong integral skeg with more bearing to prevent it from being snapped off which has sank many weakly built coastal cruisers monohull. Good Monohull recover from knock downs or rolling or pitch polling cats do not. My last comment is anyone considering speed as a plus attribute is missing the whole point of sailing. It is to chill most of the times and enjoy the beauty of the raw wild oceans. If one is concerning speed they should fly where they want to go. Jim Rodgers

    The vid should have been named - top 6 ... boats YOU were aware of, as there are so many superior blue watee boats out there in these lengths that frankly every and each one of these can be replaced with a better boat... These are more common, more WV-gens of boating, not customs or even semi-customs... Cheers!

    Nice review of the various “amenities” these two boats offer, but blue water sailing in about surviving long passages when things go wrong. What’s under the waterline? Being “new” boats I imagine the rigs are in working order, but how resilient are they, can an owner operator work on the furling systems in the middle of nowhere?

    For world cruising.. a couple of these are good.. but some of them are questionable.. Remember when sailing around the world, its not a matter of 'if' you get caught in a storm. Its a matter of 'when' you get caught in a storm. I can only imagine sitting at twin rears in 2 or 3 meter seas. Why is the Kraken 50 not on this list? To my knowledge, Krakens are literally the only boat built today that is designed specifically for world cruising.

    I love Dicks design philosophy. If I had to critic the boat it would be the low combings in the cockpit, hard to get comfortable . Not crazy about the solent rig , its difficult to get good forestay tension when its split between two stays , they both will sag up wind. Prefer the tried and true cutter with running back stays . We are talking about Blue Water . I dont find the interior all that appealing to much vinyl . And I like straight settess in the main salon one on port one on starboard , they make great sea berths when off shore.

    While you MAY be able to get away with winter or spring Artic sailing in the Pacific,, its not wise to do that in regions where there are iceburgs like Newfoundland, Labrodar NE Canada. My practicle Coast Guard experience is there are thousands of bergy bits, house sized ice burg pieces invisible at night in the Western high Atlantic, especially in the Spring. You run into one and your boat sinks.

    June 9, 2024. At this point in time the HH44OC with the huge lifting salon windows, hybrid power regeneration capability and carbon fiber hull has to be #1 of the Top 5. I'm influenced, having watched all the "Gone with the Wynns" video's of interviews with engineering, management and skilled artisans at the HH factory over a two years period as HH44OC, hull #3 was being fabricated (no dagger boards) for Jason and Nikki Wynn. HH gained it fame from building big world class carbon fiber racing cats for years and then they decided a couple of years ago to build a line of smaller Cats for the cruising community. What's clear is the carbon fiber technology transfer that happened. Apparently HH only knows how to build high tech boats one way and it's reflected in their beautifully engineered smaller cat versions. Then there's the matter of under way system accessibility, and repairability when you break something during a race. Everything was well thought out for the HH44OC. All electrical, engines and plumbing subsystems have ease of access with ample room for spares swap out. The boat wiring is a work of art with every circuit individuly labeled with indepenent circuits for each hybrid diesel engine that can generate battery power from the spinning props while under sail or use battery power to propel the vessel.

    • @Angie-in8wc
      @Angie-in8wc Месяц назад

      Have you watched the Wynns recently? They’ve had issues with their HH including the electric engines not putting out as much power as stated. Also HH has production in the Philippines now and it doesn’t look like management are overseeing the training of the staff very well. I hope HH gets these issues sorted out because the specs on the boat look fantastic, but the management seems to be a mess. The Wynns could have been the greatest free advertising a yacht company could have but HH really dropped the ball with them.

    • @gotafarmyet4691
      @gotafarmyet4691 14 дней назад

      @@Angie-in8wc Most of what you see are because the Wynns got one of the first ones for the Eco systems on the HH44. After about 5 years all the issues will be worked out for those systems and the build will be better. As for carbon fiber hulls well as long as you don't hit anything that causes the fibers to start to separate you are good. Fiber Glass and aluminum are much easier to repair if you are looking at long term boating. I will say that with the issues many Fiber Glass boat have been having I would look for the more expensive full glass constructed boats.

    • @Angie-in8wc
      @Angie-in8wc 14 дней назад

      @@gotafarmyet4691 I’ve head it suggested not to get one of the first 10 hulls of any new design but there’s teething problems and then poor management. Have you watched any of the Wynns recent experiences? I don’t think HH have treated them very well and given the large amount of subscribers they have on RUclips that’s a pretty foolish mistake by HH. The electric engines weren’t putting out anything near the power they were supposed to and they were having a lot of electrical issues - but I’m just a a random on RUclips, watch for yourself and form your own opinion.
